The Dolar Shop Queens Reviews from The Last Year

I recently dined at your restaurant and was met with a series of unfortunate events that left me feeling disrespected and overcharged. As an international student, managing expenses is crucial, and my visit to your establishment has been both financially and emotionally taxing. To begin with, I was not made aware of a policy that imposes fines for unfinished meals. This lack of communication was the first of several service issues. Further exacerbating the situation was the fact that I was erroneously billed twice for Diet Coke and soju, an error that went uncorrected despite my attempts to resolve it peacefully. The response from the staff when I chose not to tip--due to the unsatisfactory service--was far from professional. Instead of understanding my concerns, I felt threatened and pressured to pay what I believe was an unfair total of $160.

I have eaten at many hotpot places but this was one of the best. The service makes you feel like a very important guest and the interior of the restaurant feels cool and modern. As others have mentioned, this place can get quite expensive. However, I feel they are overlooking the fantastic deal available with the individual "sets" available. When selecting a set, the fee for the broth is included, as well as the fee for using the "sauce bar" and you get a pretty large quantity of food. I dined with two other people and we each ordered our own set plus an additional plate of lamb, frozen tofu and some fresh bamboo shoots a la cart. We were stuffed by the end and the total came out to around $50 a person. If you're attempting to eat here on a budget, the sets are definitely the way to go. I initially found it sort of silly that you need to pay per person to use the sauce bar here if you don't get a pre set meal, but the sauce bar is really so much more than that. It's a long table with fresh fruit and snacks and cold salads in addition to the sauces and you definitely could fill up on stuff from here if you found your pre set meal didn't include enough food. However, the plate of meat they give you per person is quite large. The hallmark of a good hot pot spot for me, is whether or not the broth is able to sufficiently season your food. Some cheaper places leave you leaning on your sauce to season every bite, but here, it's possible to enjoy without covering everything in sauce. We ordered a plate of bamboo shoots in addition to our sets and I have never had fresh bamboo like this before. It was so delicious, like a subtly sweet tender asparagus. The meat was all tender and high quality and the vegetable plate seemed well portioned for one person. It also included some shrimp paste which I've never tried before. When cooked it created a beautiful bouncy shrimp ball which I really enjoyed. I had a great time here and will definitely come back as I am intrigued by the all you can eat deal they begin offering late night. The soft serve ice cream cone they offer you at the end is just the icing on the cake!

5 stars My friend and I stopped by on a Friday night at 8:30 PM and the restaurant was completely packed. I thankfully had made a reservation so we were seated a couple of minutes after we arrived in a comfortable side booth for two. Service was fast and our server was super nice. You order everything on the iPad but the total of everything was quite hefty especially for the amount of food you get. For my broth, I got the creamy pork broth and tomato broth. The tomato broth was disappointing since it was super watered down. However, the pork broth was so delicious, I would recommend just getting the pork broth next time. For meats we only ordered a ribeye. The quality of the ribeye we got was so good. It was shaved so thinly that it cooked in only a few seconds and was perfect. We got other items as well like veggies and meat/fish balls which were all very tasty but pretty much like all other hot pot places in the city. I did really like their sauce and dessert station. There was a great selection of sauce choices. And the tiny cut fruit, fermented sweet rice and popping jelly were such a great end to a meal. The main issue I had though was that the floor of the restaurant especially around the sauce area was super sticky and gross. I'm sure it is hard to clean with so many customers around but would be nice to be more mindful of it. All in all, a nice hot pot location but not sure if the hefty price tag is fully worth it.
Probably one of my favorite hotpot places.
You get your own bowl and you can choose from high quality ingredients. The service is also pretty phenomenal. The pork bone broth was probably one of my favorites and so was the dessert bar !

Other than being a bit expensive at the quality level the experience was great. My partner and I ordered the set menu with a few extra types of beef afterwards both choosing the spicy broth. The portions were okay, in terms of taste:price the premier cru beef was the best imo. The restaurant definitely had a wait but it wasn't as bad as it could be (7pm for 2 was around 45min) and the atmosphere was intimate, saw a few dates and a couple groups of families/friends, overall the ambiance isn't something that detracts. Service was great though, waiters had really helpful suggestions and definitely helped us pick the best pieces we had that night.

The meat and produce quality here and the flavors of the broths and sauces are top-notch by Manhattan standards. The service unfortunately can be hit-or-miss. I've come here both for their a la carte menu and their more recent post-9pm AYCE offering. We came recently at for a 9pm reservation but were unfortunately not seated until almost 9:30 and couldn't flag down a waiter to take our order until 9:45. The meal itself was fantastic. Dolar Shop offers USDA Prime beef cuts and New Zealand lamb and it's all absolutely delicious. The veggie and mushroom options are also plentiful and I love the dessert options too (youtiao, maqiu, bingfen bar). Near the end of the meal, things started to fall apart a bit. The steam from the hotpot started to condense on the ceiling and drip back down onto us (hadn't experienced this before so I assume it only happens at certain tables). The staff also tried to charge us for leftover AYCE ingredients even though we had ordered quite accurately for our large party of 7 people and only left behind 5% of what we ordered (mostly veggies and noodles). We explained this to the waitress along with the fact we had been seated and had our order taken late so it was hard to keep eating past 11:30pm. She agreed to remove the charge, but apparently they don't communicate internally because a different waiter then came and charged us again and we had to have the same convo again. Will still probably come back because it's top-tier in-demand hotpot in the city, but don't ever expect amazing service for the same reason.
Delicious - one of the best hot pots l've had.
The soup was tasty and flavorful (I got combo Sichuan and tomato). The meat (especially the wagyu) was super tender and practically melts in your mouth. The sides were also a good size, enough to split amongst 4 people. Though, with more people, we had to order double of some items. I liked the seaweed knots and fresh bean curd skins, which come as knots. Sauce bar is insane - all the normal sauces (including a beef sauce with ground beef) but it also had appetizers, like peanuts, spicy seaweed strings and bean curd strings. There were also fruit and a dessert section, with things like lychee jelly, syrups, and ice jelly and taro balls. At the end, they give you an ice cream cone that's so milky and delicious. Since it's not AYCE before 9, it does add up though so be careful.
Came here at 10pm on a Sunday.
Reservation was not required, but we had to sign in which seems to be the same as reserving on yelp. We were seated rather quickly as they weren't very busy. They currently have a deal which is everyday after 9pm, the price is $19.99 for ayce (not including meat or seafood). Meat and seafood is an additional $5 per plate. They also have a beverage aycd which includes plum juice, soy milk, and milk tea. Everyone gets their own hotpot, which you can choose up to 2 broths. They have a good selection of vegetables, fish balls (reg, with roe, with egg yolk), tofu (skin), etc. They have some carbs such as mantou with condensed milk, etc. There is also cold rice dessert (bing fan). Lastly, they have ice cream which you can choose between yogurt vanilla or matcha. (I personally like the matcha more) I personally really like fish ball with roe, and finding good ones are hard. This place has great fish ball with roe. The cold rice dessert was okay/good. You can choose what to include as you are making it yourself. They have dragon fruit, mango, popping boba, orange, red bean, sweet potato/taro ball. The sweet potato and taro ball aren't very fresh which is why I said it was okay. Everything else is typical in term of food. I got the unlimited beverage (not everyone on your table needs to get it). The plum juice is good, but Ive never had plum juice previously so idk what to compare it to. The soy milk is good. The service was alright. It takes a but of effort to get a waiters attention. They also ran out of some food which they didnt refill (might be bc they were closing). My group did ask them which they then refilled. This is great for eating with friends but also having your own individual food. A great place to chat with friends while you eat!
My favorite hot pot place! The mushroom broth is a must.
They have great quality veggies and meat, and love the little ice cream treat at the end!

My bf and I decided to try The Dolar Shop for their AYCE menu, and we had a great experience! The AYCE menu starts at 9pm and has a time limit of 1hr 45min for $46 per person. Although the menu had a limited selection of 55 items, we still enjoyed our meal. The highlight for us was definitely the broth. I tried both the Spicy Broth and the Chef's Creamy Pork Broth, and they were incredibly flavorful and delicious. The meats were tender and of great quality. There is a self-service bar, which offered a variety of sauces and desserts. However, during my visit, there were no signs indicating what each item was, and we found ourselves having to guess. Nevertheless, the dessert options, which includes cut fruit, popping boba, and jellies, were a great way to end the meal. We were given complimentary vanilla ice cream cones after paying for our meal.

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
