Truly Exceptional Meal

5/5 by 👻 @MickeyGW65 on 07/04/2024

We had been looking forward to this experience for a while and it did not disappoint. We were greeted by our names and wished "Happy Anniversary" by every person who came to our table. Food was unique, flavorful, and definitely worth the hype. We loved all the little surprise tastings that we received. This is definitely a splurge on every level, but so worth it. The service was impeccable and we loved chatting with our server and the maitre'de.

Lives up to its reputation!

5/5 by 👻 @WPLandry on 07/01/2024

We've been wanting to experience dinner here for a while now and could not be more happy with our entire experience. Everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. Arriving at the Inn, you are greeted with respect as you are whisked from your car into the Inn. Our server was excellent and had quite the sense of humor! He provided detailed explanations of the dishes as well as tidbits about the restaurant, chef, etc. We felt the wine pairing was true perfection. Each dish complimented each glass and vice versa. With every bite, we were transported to a place of pure enjoyment. Not only that, but each dish was a work of art in the craftsmanship it took to create the display. After dinner, we relaxed for some time in the lounge and were treated to a tour of the kitchen where we had the honor of meeting Chef O'Connell. After dinner, our car was outside with the AC on and engine running, just waiting for us to settle in. Every moment was perfect and we could not have asked for anything more. This is truly deserving of 3 stars.

Probably one of the top three meals of my life. So inventive and everything was exquisitely composed. We got the wine pairing and it was amazing. I never would've been able to pick out one bottle that would have gone so well with each dish. It was definitely worth the expense to add it on. Service was amazing as you would expect. I loved the feel of the space. It really exuded country luxury. I highly recommend trying this place at least once in your lifetime. It truly lived up to my family's experience from 30 years ago.

The food and service were a top notch. Here are the photos to prove how beautiful the dishes were! It was a special event for us to celebrate our friendship and this is the perfect place to do it.

While the staff were delightful and professional, the inaccessibility for my 90 year old mother was disappointing. Steps required to enter, followed by steps to the restrooms, no grab bars, followed by steps down to the dining area, sent a clear message that accessibility is not a priority. If you, or a loved one, needs an accessible restaurant, I do not recommend The Inn at Little Washington. I found it very thoughtful that a representative phoned to discuss our diet restrictions. We informed the representative that we are plant based but, if absolutely necessary, we would eat egg or a piece of fish. The meal we were given included milk and cheese. In an ideal world, the establishment would be forthright regarding the unwillingness or inability to accommodate plant based diets. Instead, our expectations quickly became resentments. I know few people who feel pleased leaving a restaurant hungry, especially one held in such high regard. If you, or a love one is plant based, I do not recommend The Inn at Little Washington. The atmosphere was as expected. We enjoyed the artwork and the photos of well-knowns who visited the Inn in the past. It is actually very disappointing that the evening wasn't a five-star event for us. Maybe our constructive feedback will benefit others, whether the Inn takes it seriously and directs some of the hefty profits to improvements, or whether folks read this and don't let their money go to waste.

I am fortunate to have eaten at many of the world's best

5/5 by 👻 @C K. on 06/09/2024

I am fortunate to have eaten at many of the world's best restaurants, but admittedly the Inn has long been my favorite among the Michelin-anointed restaurants. The chef's personality shines brightly here in the whimsy, creativity, love for George Washington, and impeccable respect for ingredients and technique set against a backdrop of French and VA country charm. My last visit was before their third star and Amazon Prime documentary. The food remained a delight on my most recent visit, but the service struggled more than should happen for a 3-Michelin star restaurant. The food is creative, joyful, and delicious. Those well familiar with classic French techniques may delight at the hilarious or just unique takes on classic dishes. The joy for me is the playfulness and whimsy that sets it apart from most other restaurants of this caliber. The decor is what one might expect if Marie Antoinette's decorator attempted a French country aesthetic. My love for tassels delights in the decor. Classic tunes from the likes of Dolly Parton and Otis Redding accompany the meal. There are whimsical touches throughout. The service is not the invisible ballet of a Thomas Keller restaurant. It is less perfectionistic and much warmer. However, the attention to detail was more on par this visit with a 1-star restaurant (Michelin, not Yelp). The initial setting was beautiful but flatware had more thought to placement when my 10 year-old nephew sets a table. A dropped napkin was left there, then picked up and put back on the table, then replaced while the dropped one was left crumpled on the table for three more courses. Similarly, menus and candy boxes were brought out and dropped on the table before our cheese and dessert courses even came, cramping the table space and detracting from the presentation. Glasses were routinely left un-refilled and the fish knife only appeared as we were finishing the dish that it was obviously meant to accompany. These are things that just should just not happen at a 3-star restaurant. Service nearly disappeared after the last course before cheese and dessert. Would I go back? Absolutely. But I do worry that if they don't get their service ironed out they may find themselves with one star less than they otherwise deserve.

Good, but not 3 Michelin star good.

4/5 by 👻 @rkny18 on 05/27/2024

Having eaten at other 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants, I’m not quite sure how the Inn has 3. The food is good, but there were not multiple life changing dishes that we wanted to eat more of. Maybe 1 or 2. Compared to Le Bernadin or L’Enclume, where we noted we’d come back for a big plate of nearly everything we ate, the Inn’s executions were enjoyable, but not particularly unique or memorable, with the exception of the lobster chartreuse. The cheese course was excellent, but felt a bit rushed in its presentation, and was somewhat delayed in arrival. The cheese server’s funny asides and puns were cute and clever, but they took away from time that could have been better spent seriously describing the cheeses. I suppose the jovial presentation is geared toward people who perhaps don’t really care to hear much about the varieties. One cheese course detail I took great exception to was being served Carr’s Table Crackers with the cheese (along with some nice bread we’d already had during the meal). I mean, really? Carr’s? The same crackers I can buy at any grocery store? Served at a 3 star Michelin restaurant? Embarrassing at best. Insulting at worst. The bar experience both before and after dinner was a little odd. We initially went to Patty O’s bar for a glass of pre-dinner champagne. While we were warmly greeted there, that was the beginning and end of the attention. The sole bartender didn’t look at or address us in any way. Meanwhile a gaggle of staff chatted away at the host’s station. After a few minutes of this inattention, we left for the Monkey Bar at the Inn across the street. The Monkey Bar isn’t a proper bar with stools or chairs. It’s table service only, so any opportunity to chat with a bartender or a neighbor is mostly gone. We were shown the ”bar”, but given no guidance as to where to sit. Oddly, we were asked if we were joining them for tea. They already knew we were there for dinner. Do a lot of dinner guests arrive early for tea? This spoke to a lack of communication. We plopped down in 2 chairs l hoped weren’t reserved, and waited several minutes for any kind of recognition. Finally, someone came by to wipe down our table, which in my mind should have been done immediately after the previous guest left, not as we sat there watching. A server came by to take a water order and chatted with us briefly about the whisky offerings. But after he left, he was replaced by s different server and we never interacted with him again. This proved to be somewhat thematic throughout dinner. We were told we had one main server, and we did see her a few times, but it felt like each course was served by someone different, with varying levels of knowledge, polish, and enthusiasm. One server kicked our table. Another bumped abruptly into my wife’s arm with no apology. So much for those ballet lessons Patrick paid for for the staff! We asked for sparkling water. A random server brought it. I didn’t recognize the label so I enthusiastically asked “Oh, what’s that?”, pointing to the label. “Sparkling water” replied the server. lol come on. She eventually grasped that I was asking where it was from. After the meal, we sensed they wanted the table back, so we decided to get after dinner drinks back at the bar. Again, no actual bar, just some cushy chairs. It was comfortable, but my wife was a bit chilly from the AC blowing on her legs. I asked our bar server if they had a throw she could use. He replied “Of course”, which has maddeningly become the de facto reply from the younger generation of servers today, to every request, regardless of the sincerity of the responder or the response. No throw ever materialized. My wife remained chilly. More chilly than the air however, were the drink prices. $200 for a 1 ounce pour of an unusual but certainly not rare Islay Scotch, an entire bottle of which can be purchased for $250. $51 for a 1 ounce pour of basic Laphroaig 10 year. A bottle of that is $60 most places. Champagne by the glass prices were similarly silly. I guess the alcohol prices were designed to keep people from lingering after the meal, and to make the $170 wine pairing seem like a bargain. The wine pairing was fantastic I should add. And our sommelier, Nicole, was easily the most attentive, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic server we encountered the entire evening. The perfect mix of personable and professional. Had more of the staff been as great at what they do as Nicole is, I could see 3 Michelin stars. As it is, much of the staff seemed like college kids on summer break. There is much talk of Mr. O’Connell expanding the Inn. Until he can shore up the service (and push the food envelope a bit) as it stands, I think he risks losing a star or two by becoming even larger. It’s clearly already a challenge for Mr. O’Connell to find experienced knowledgeable staff in the middle of the Virginia countryside. I don’t see how expanding his operation begets better service.

I hated every minute of it. Michelin should be clawing their stars back.

1/5 by 👻 @mattva1 on 05/19/2024

What was supposed to be a fantastic evening, turned into a nightmare. It started a few hours before our dinner when they called and asked me if I would move our reservation up an hour because they had some last-minute cancellations. I figured maybe they had some VIPs or something and wanted my slot. I didn’t really care so I agreed, but clearly explained that I wanted to have a drink before dinner in their bar area. She understood and agreed, saying that a lot of guests do that. So I thought all was good. It wasn't. I show up on time and am greeted with “your table is ready.” I asked to have ten minutes for a drink at the bar, but the receptionist wasn't having it. after explaining that we had discussed it when they asked to move my reservation up, she agreed but gave me a disgusted and snarky “fine, let us know when you are ready” sendoff. So, I am left in a horrible confrontation situation which I didn’t ask for. But, now it is awkward, people think I’m being difficult, they are mad, etc. In any other situation I would have asked my wife if it was ok to leave and find another spot – but they make you pre-pay a small fortune, it’s our anniversary, there is nowhere else to go in the town, and we drove hours to get there – so I was stuck, there was nothing I could do. I’m so disappointed because all I wanted was a few minutes to enjoy a high-end, caringly made Manhattan before dinner. I'm sure it sounds small, but I was truly looking forward to it because I only drink on special occasions due to a health scare. Unfortunately for me, that moment was ruined. There was no way I could enjoy myself so I gave up, and couldn't get out of the bar to our table fast enough. But the whole negative vibe carried over into dinner – where I felt rushed and unsettled. My wife knew I was upset and did her best. But, the entire dinner, meal, experience sucked. I hated every minute of it. I’m sure everyone else will rave about the place. And I get it, having been there half-dozen times for dinners, fundraisers, special occasions - so I do appreciate it. But, that is gone. No way should this have happened – especially at a place where it costs $1,200 for dinner for two. As far as the food went, it could have been the best meal in the world and it wouldn’t have mattered to me under the circumstances. But, it wasn’t even particularly good. They killed the shrimp and duck with dill. Except for some egg thing (which was great) the rest was just ok. While I’m at it, one thing that surprised me was that the mens room was a bit gross. I expect that at an airport or some public place. But, not at a restaurant like this. In all fairness, it’s not entirely their fault if someone can’t hit the urinal, and I noticed someone was heading that way to clean things up. But, it’s a bad look for sure.

4/5 by 👻 @Jennifer J. on 04/11/2024

While the service at the hotel and the restaurant were superb, I unfortunately was a little disappointed with my meal. We visited for a friend's birthday and I have a shellfish allergy and am pregnant, so I could not eat any raw or unpasteurized foods either. I have the restaurant notice of this weeks in advance and anticipated a custom menu that would meet my needs. Unfortunately, once we were seated I was asked if I could just opt-in to the vegetarian menu. I was taken back a bit and said yes, but honestly was extremely disappointed because I had been looking forward to this experience for months and instead of getting any protein with my meal, I was encouraged to eat the vegetarian menu, which featured multiple items that I simply do not enjoy (like beets and mushrooms). One of the dishes was a raviolo and despite my dietary restrictions, the egg yolk in the middle was fully raw. Additionally, our waiter substituted in one meat main course for me, which I was glad for, but my duck was the most rare at the table, so I could not eat it. Overall, my party enjoyed their meal, but it is not the best restaurant we have ever been to and it was extremely disappointing that my needs weren't actually accommodated when an above and beyond experience is expected from a three-star establishment. Quite honestly, if the hotel experience and afternoon tea and breakfast wouldn't have been included, I probably would have rated this lower.

No other way to say it. First the staff. Colby was our waiter, and suffice it to say that he was the BEST. Gerson was an absolute delight as well, as were all of the wonderful employees who brought bread, refilled drinks, and made us feel so fancy. The food was outrageous. The horseradish mousse, wasabi gelato, perfectly poached chicken, wonderful cannoli, extraordinary foie gras... how is it possible to achieve that level of perfection? The price tag is ludicrous--I know. But if you can find a way to make this a special occasion, DO IT. You deserve it. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

This is one the most amazing restaurants on the east coast, if not the country, hands down. This can not be argued. Definitely not inexpensive but a culinary dining experience that is worth every penny. Course after course is a perfect portion that explodes flavors into your mouth that has your palate craving more. The service is second to none with a team of well polished professionals who orchestrate a 5-star performance. This is an evening out that is comparable to one of the best shows on broadway. Thank you for one of the best evenings out we could have ever imagined. By the way, we drove 1.5 hours to visit Little Washington, and it was a beautiful, scenic delight. Get there early and enjoy the quaint, restored village, peaceful streets and the eclectic stores. You will want to bottle up the town and take it home with you. If you can, spend a night or two at the lodgings. SIMPLY AMAZING!

5/5 by 👻 @Madeline H. on 03/19/2024

We spent almost a week in the town total, staying at the cottage and dining at the Inn multiple days, we tasted a little of it all! We often refer to our trip as one of the most memorable experiences of our life thus far. Everything from the hospitality, to the personalized touches, and the history of the surrounding town, made for a experience like no other. We felt transported to a different era, one transcendent of time and space. To note - we were engaged over the course of our whimsical evening dinner at the Inn. The music was even on que as my fiancé got down on one knee. We were attuned to the impeccability of the details. Our evening sure felt intuited, and every need was met beyond measure. The staff were five steps ahead, and we even got a personal moment with the Chef himself. I'm still tasting the decadent, and rich seasonal dishes as I write this now. Thank you to the Little Inn & staff for creating an exceptional atmosphere.

Paddy O'a the delighful bistro add on at the Inn's complex has a misleading reservation policy. They charge $35 (non-refundable) for a reservation. We came early on a Sunday evening to celebrate my stepfather's birthday and they had custom 'happy birthday' menus for us as well as other small touches during the meal. We were seated in the sunroom area with lovely views of the koi pond. My mother and I both had the vegetarian menu while my stepfather had the gastronaut menu, and we were all extremely impressed with every single course. Every bite of food was delicious! We were very well looked after, and we never waited long between courses. We ordered two bottles of Swiss (!!! It's difficult to get Swiss wine in the US, so this is a big deal!) wine for the table, both of which were very good! Our sommelier, Hannah, was lovely and knowledgeable, not just about the wine on the menu but also local wines/wineries as well, which was so appreciated. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time there and I have already recommended it to friends. 10/10, worth every penny!

3 Michelin star restaurant at an inn in the VA countryside,

4/5 by 👻 @Zack G. on 02/27/2024

3 Michelin star restaurant at an inn in the VA countryside, 1.5 hours outside of DC. Fairly formal - I was glad that I wore my suit jacket. Complimentary valet that is decked out in garb that makes him look like it came straight from the closet of the Mad Hatter. When we left, he pulled up our car for us before we even asked for it/exited the restaurant (which was a very cool touch). Inside, the place is like what you would imagine an old Victorian mansion to look like. There is seating in a few different rooms, each of which has a slightly different vibe, however the space is a bit tight regardless of where you are seated. They put my GF and I both in a booth together to make up for these tight quarters. We didn't mind however, as this allowed us to both face out and see the rest of the dining experience. Only offer a pre-set $350 tasting menu, however you do get to choose between either a meat or vegetarian tasting menu. They also have a cocktail menu & a wine-paring menu as well. I got the regular testing menu and my GF got the vegetarian tasting menu, and we both got cocktails as well. Menu's here serve as complimentary souvenirs. When you make a reservation they ask if you are coming for any special occasion, and, if you tell them the occasion, they will write "Happy ...." and your names on the top of your menu. They also give you a complimentary goodie bag (inside of a box that looks like a replica of the inn) of candies to take home with you. Food was all very tasty, but nothing really blew us away as we assumed the food from a 3 Michelin star restaurant would. This being said, my cocktail was amazing as was the endless complimentary bread & butter. Another unique touch was that they offered a cheese platter in place of dessert, and to bring it to you they wheeled out a cart that looked like a cow. They also had a "cheese master" who plated your platter in front of you, all the while making cheesy puns :) The service was solid, but definitely not perfect. They did not clean up the crumbs from our table or fold our napkins when we went to the bathroom (which judging from the other reviews I read are common experiences), and they even brought another table's dishes to us once. Also, the service at the end was very slow and we ended up waiting a long time for our final courses and the check. Overall, we were glad that we checked a 3 Michelin star off of our bucket list, but we will not be coming back

Very good food and pampering at restaurant and the inn, but with a few issues

4/5 by 👻 @UE_DC64 on 02/09/2024

We stayed one night at the Inn and enjoyed the afternoon tea, the dinner, and the breakfast. What stood out to me was how pampered I felt. There were more staff taking care of us than there were customers. The lodging was super cute and had everything one could wish for, and with small, nice gifts in several rounds. Of course, it wasn't cheap. The dinner was exquisite but with a few things that could have been better. I loved everything I ate, and the dishes were nicely (and sometimes innovatively) presented. But, while the menu left my wife full, I finished the meal feeling I had room for more. And I am not super huge or anything. We seem to have been unlucky with the bread service. We didn't get any bread (other tables did) and when I asked if we could also get some bread, the response was "Yes, I can get you some bread", as if I were asking for a side order, rather than a response like "Oh, sorry, we missed you, we will get you bread right away". And I had to do it again for a second piece of bread. This is very unusual for any good restaurant. Perhaps I was unlucky. I was also a little disappointed with the breakfast. We got a very nice parfait of sort and then a basket with different types of mostly sweet stuff. Anything else, like an omelet or such would cost an extra $25--rather outrageous in my view. I had expected a nice buffet with lots of different types of bread, cheeses, yogurts, etc., as I would get in any hight star hotel. All in all, we had a great stay here and enjoyed the pampering and the excellent food, but I few things did not live up to my expectations (for the price we paid)

An absolutely incredible experience. Each course of the meal was an absolutely unexpected delight that tasted both unique and familiar. The Chartreuse of Cabbage and Lobster, Lamb pair with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and caviar dishes were of particular note. The wait staff was also incredible. I had delightful conversations with the sommelier on duty that night, multiple servers, and enjoyed the milk-related puns of the cheese cart guy. Patrick O’Connell came out to meet me and we chatted about the wildfires back home. I was even given a tour of the kitchens.

Absolutely wonderful experience! We went on a cold snowy

5/5 by 👻 @Soo C. on 01/20/2024

Absolutely wonderful experience! We went on a cold snowy evening and the drive there was beautiful once you turned off of the main road. Once arriving to the little inn, we sat in the small bar area for a unique cocktail experience. Our server was very knowledgeable and offered suggestions when we asked about bourbons. We were seated in the dining room under a parasol which had a cozy ambiance. It was my partner's birthday and they provided special touches to our experience such as a personalized menu and addition to our desserts. Every detail was taken to make our dining experience memorable. We had both the vegetarian and omnivore menus and each were filled with lovely delicious portions and impeccable service. There was a bountiful cheese offering for dessert for an additional charge and 1/4 of us got the cheese and it was well worth the additional charge for the cheese puns and cheese knowledge of Cameron. There was enough cheese from one cheese plate to share with the rest of my table . The detail that they attend to was wonderful. Both my partner and I have food allergies and they gave us different water glasses from the rest of our group to ensure that our dietary needs were carefully maintained. During our experience one of my friends discovered that he was a grandfather and they brought a special addition to his dessert. This was my first experience at the Little Inn at Washington and it was a memorable experience. Is it expensive. Yes it is. Is it a special experience. Absolutely. I'm glad that I was able to have an experience and this wonderful establishment. My advice is, enjoy every experience. Relax and enjoy. It is truly special.

I went to Washington DC on a trip over last summer, and

5/5 by 👻 @Chris A. on 01/05/2024

I went to Washington DC on a trip over last summer, and when you look for Michelin restaurants for the DC area, The Inn pops up in your search as the only restaurant that has Three Stars. So, of course, I had to make it happen. I had been to one, maybe three, Three Stars already, and you could just tell how they got their status. So know I have to collect them all. Great. So we planned a little side-trip over to the beautiful Shenandoah National Park, found a cute little Airbnb nearby, and had reservations that night for The Inn. We got in a little early, but that was ok, because they brought us to their beautiful little lounge where we got some wonderful, complimentary little snacks. How nice. Then, when our time came, we were escorted to our table, and wow. What a beautiful dining area. It's basically a house from the dawn of the country, and there's a patio area that's actually completely indoors. We got seated in the patio area and had nice, big, beautiful windows to look out of for our meal. Then, the fun began. I got a menu with a giant picture of the chef on the front with a personalized "Happy Birthday to Christopher" on it. Love that. Then the amuse bouche and the courses started. One after another. I can't remember everything, and the menu online has changed already, but I will lay out high and low points. There was a bread cart with a few different breads and an absolute mountain of butter. I took full advantage of this card. I love bread, and their little baguettes were so good. They did a fancy little deconstructed, gastronomic BLT that I wasn't expecting, but it was nice. It was like a shot you took, and you replied on the scent of the herbs to be the L of the BLT. I don't know. It was fun. I like new things. One of the courses is a tiny tin of caviar. I'm not sure if caviar is even good eats anymore. Seems like an ancient dish by now. But you can't say it's not fun and delicious. They only give you two toast points, so your options are to load up the toasts, or call the bread cart guy over. Some nice, fresh fish. Fun textures and beautiful presentation. A deconstructed ham dish with some grated cheese on top of a gel; this dish was a mess. Not a fan. A butter poached piece of lobster. Very small, and lobster is kind of in the same, outdated vein as caviar is. But, it was succulent and amazing. A nice slice of pork belly, now this was amazing. Again, small, but the flavor was incredible. And the puree it was on top of was perfect. Then came the desserts! One was a fun one that looked like they dropped the ice cream cone and it was splattered on the plate. It was a sweet corn ice cream with actual corn on the plate and a pepper to eat along with it. Love the flavor combos. But eat this quick, because it melts fast! The next dessert was a visit from the cheese cow. This was hands down the best, most memorable part of the evening. A very strange, lovable man comes over with a cow on wheels and gives you a tour of all his cheeses with many terrible, but also many great, puns. Then, you pick the cheeses, he gives you the prescribed accoutrements, like creamed honey, almonds, jams, etc, and get to work. They don't give you any carbs, though, so I called the bread cart man back over. No shame. I also got a dessert that looked like soap and some random tempered chocolate. I would get into them, but I am getting tired of typing. I will say, though, that I love it when these Michelin places send you home with things. And this thing was mega cute. A bunch of chocolates and candies inside of a little paper Inn! It was very good during the drive back to the Airbnb. Overall, it was definitely a fun, delicious dinner, absolutely. It was my least favorite of all the Three Stars I've been to, though. And just saying that aloud makes me feel like a pompous douche. But yet, it's true. I'm sure the complaints I have are exactly why some people come here. Old world food, small portions, being doted on hand and foot for two hours straight. Anyway, it was good. If you're coming to the area, and want to tick a Three Star off your list, you can't miss it.

If you enjoy fine dining and are looking for a place to

2/5 by 👻 @Nicholas S. on 12/31/2023

If you enjoy fine dining and are looking for a place to spend over $1,000 of your hard-earned money, you can do much better than the Inn at Little Washington. For those chasing Michelin star experiences, this is one you'll want to quickly check off your list, question why it has those stars in the first place, and likely never return - unless you're one of the regulars who get special treatment. Like an uncanny blend of The Menu and The Village, the Inn at Little Washington promises to transport you back in time to when droves of wait staff acted as robots and were cycled through endlessly to accomplish highly specific individualized tasks for your dining pleasure. During our 5-course pre-paid meal, we met no less than 13 different staff members and were seated directly next to a wait station. The amount of anxiety and unease produced by the feeling that we were constantly being observed and listened to (and we were being listened to) in a quaint inn with many, many staff eerily standing around cannot be understated. Don't get me wrong, everyone was perfectly pleasant in their demeanor and delivery, everyone was professional...but maybe too professional? Everything felt choreographed (in a bad way) and there was no sense of warmth or comfort that a good server often brings to a meal out. Alcohol quality and service were excellent and reasonably priced (if not slightly on the high end, but in line with what you'd expect at a place like this). With respect to the food: it was good (not great) and nowhere close to feeling like we got what we paid for. The portions on the amouse bouche, carpaccio, and lobster terrine were modest; however, the portion size of the main courses (duck breast and venison) were downright insulting. My wife got a single strip of duck (which was cooked expertly) and I got two silver dollar sized medallions of venison (also cooked expertly) which left us both wondering where the rest of our respective dishes were. For almost $900 (not including alcohol) we felt ripped off. The kicker for all this was receiving a bill at the end of the meal which included a 22% service charge. Now, in isolation, this is not an issue. But here, when we pre-paid the meal (as you are required to do to dine here) we already paid a 22% service charge. So why then, Dear Reader, should another identical charge be assessed? The whole experience felt like a cash grab for the unwitting. I would not recommend this place and I have serious questions regarding how they are able to maintain 3 Michelin stars. For much better experiences where you can feel that the value of your dollar is either met or exceeded, I recommend The Kitchen, Ella, or Rose's Luxury.

Food was delicious and presented with great artistic flair. It seemed like we were eating for 2 hours; but food was very light and did not weigh us down. All in all, very memorable experience

The Ultimate Experience for a Foodie

5/5 by 👻 @sarah w on 09/23/2023

I do not understand the negative reviews. If you are complaining about the cost, then this is not a culinary experience for you. If you are complaining about the portions, then I do not know what to say, but I was more than full and I did not consume everything they offered to me. My boyfriend and I booked the kitchen table for a birthday celebration. We were immediately greeted and ushered to the living room of the Inn where we enjoyed some cocktails before dinner. Then we were greeted by one of the hosts and ushered into the kitchen itself for dinner after being told that we had our table for the entire evening and should not feel rushed, but encourage to tarry and enjoy. When we entered the kitchen there was an enjoyable exhibition of pomp and circumstance as we were personally greeted by Chef Patrick O'Connell by name and his brilliant smile. Our table was spacious and the seating comfortable. Immediately the attentive staff began to serve and accommodate us. Everyone was gracious and enjoyable. We had water immediately and personalized menus in hand as we were guided through the selections and choices before us. With those made, we began an incredible experience for any passionate foodie. Everything from the house made bread and butter to the parmesan truffle popcorn was not only delicious, but available for unlimited refills. Restraint was necessary to avoid being overly full long before the end of the meal. We chose to get everything on the gastronaut's menu between the two of us, including the $62.00 upcharge for the caviar dish. We had ten courses, including a hand delivered first dessert course by Patrick in honor of the birthday. Every course and thus every dish was exceptional in taste and presentation. They then sent us home with a bespoke box of confections. We got more than I expected. We also chose to do the wine pairing, and with that additional charge, I can say that one should expect to spend several thousand dollars for an all in dining experience in the chef's kitchen. What you pay for is an experience and an encounter with not just the 3 Star Michelin Chef himself, but his staff and to witness first hand the amazing fluidity of the kitchen staff. While I have never eaten in the dining room, I can say that I would without hesitation come back and dine there. This was a once in a lifetime experience to mark a special occasion for us, so the expense was well worth it to us, but if you are concerned about the fiscal bottom line or portion size, then this might now be the culinary experience for you. For us, it was one to remember forever.

Great experience,

5/5 by 👻 @Jose G on 09/10/2023

My meal was included with the stay at the hotel. Dinner, service and location were excellent, well deserved 3 Michelin Stars. The only issue we had was that during our arrival the person at the front desk ask for prove of the reservation. I did not have cell signal and could not show her. She made me and my wife very uncomfortable. I would expect that an hotel that is so highly regarded would have better service at their reception. After I gave her my Id and told her to check she found my reservation. She should have asked for an ID before she asked for proof of reservation. If you are white they probably won't have any issues finding your reservation. Overall, after this small incident, everything was perfect and the stay was memorable. Breakfast at the hotel was also excellent and service during breakfast was great.

Even 3 Star Michelin Restaurants have bad nights.

3/5 by 👻 @SVWOnline on 08/13/2023

Not our first visit, but certainly our least enjoyable. Our only expectation was that the experience would justify the $2800 we paid for a party of 4. I feel strongly that objectively it missed the mark. I will repeat what others reviewers have already stated. My very first cocktail was incorrect. The food service timing was oddly off. A table close to us was seated after we were and was on their 3rd course before our appetizers arrived. The bread service was inconsistent and as many have pointed out the breadcrumbs on our table were only removed prior to our desert. Quarters were cramped, forcing servers to reach over the table. Multiple times during the meal objects were dropped close by startling all of us. Overall the service was good but not delivered with ease and the engagements felt rehearsed. The star of the evening was our sommelier. Her knowledge and explanations of our wine pairings were both insightful and entertaining. At the end of our meal we were not offered after dinner drinks or coffee/tea service. We end up retiring to the bar area for drinks, where the disappointment continued and we waited 15 minutes for someone to recognize we were done so we could pay our check. I ended up paying cash for the drinks so we could leave without any further hurdles. It’s unfortunate and I don’t think we’ll be back.

Michelin, what’s the grading criteria? How is this rated your highest grade?

3/5 by 👻 @Kendall K on 08/13/2023

This restaurant is good but overhyped. I think Michelin gives this one a “pass” due to the uniqueness of its location, the history and frankly it needs to be re-rated because it does not meet the standard of a Michelin 3 star like Aponiente in Spain. I had high expectations due to how everyone in the town speaks so highly of this place. It honestly feels a little weird because it’s as if everyone is afraid to speak truthfully on the restaurant out of fear they’ll disappear like in a horror movie, kind of cultish vibes. If this is your first Michelin I get why you’d love this place but they have some work to do. Anyway, out of all of the Michelin restaurants I’ve been to, the service, the presentation and the food all was top notch and was like a dance. The Inn at Little Washington seemed like they were resting on the fact that they were a top rated restaurant and didn’t need to work as hard. For a restaurant that I spent nearly $1,600 for I expected a lot. I didn’t like that I had to pick between menus. Since I paid for a tasting menu with a wine pairing I expected the restaurant to provide several courses that would fill me up and I was not anywhere near full at the conclusion of dinner. The plating and presentation of the food was boring, there was no style or awe factor in how the food was presented. Most places will try to match the cuisine to a creative plate. It was pretty underwhelming. The Michelin company rated The Inn to have a gastronomy star yet the restaurant didn’t explain what specifically about their menu was gastronomy like others that I’ve been too. The sommelier we had wasn’t certified and didn’t have his grape pin. Typically Michelin restaurants who have a sommelier in training will have an actual sommelier with them throughout the dining experience. With our wine pairing they placed several empty glasses on the table which I had never seen before and didn’t fill them, typically your wine glasses aren’t just sitting on the table taking up space from your plates. Generally each glass is brought to you for each course. They didn’t take the time to wipe off the bottles after they pulled it from the wine cooler, as the sommelier in training poured, there was lots of ice water from the bottle dripping on our table and food. The waiters didn’t remove bread crumbs from our table, didn’t fold our napkins when we went to the restroom, didn’t have a stool or basket for us to put our belongings in at our table. Nothing during the fine dining screamed three star restaurant, I think Michelin needs to re-evaluate this, I believe this place is a ONE star at best. Overseas Michelin’s seem to have to go through a higher grading criteria because I’ve seen way better places that are underrated that could be two or three stars and the Inn is somehow rated higher with not nearly as good of service. Typically if the chef is not on travel they will come out and greet their guest and Mr. O’Connell didn’t seem to have the time I presume to stop by tables to simply say hello. I truly expected more but you know what they say about high expectations leading to high disappointment. It’s just not worth the money spent.

The 3-stars stood for: *Average *Overpriced *Underwhelming

2/5 by 👻 @Raksmie H on 08/13/2023

I’m giving this restaurant a 2-stars — I’ve dined at over 15 Michelin star restaurants all over the world and 3 of the 15 were 3-stars so I’d like to think that I’m pretty experienced. I really wanted to walk into this experience loving it but it was average, over priced, and underwhelming (just like I stated in my title). Staff: Very friendly and super nice, they greeted us at the door and walked us to our table (as expected). The service at the table was a miss for me, they left crumbs on our table from the bread and it was never cleaned up, usually you’ll have people who come around and clean your crumbs. There wasn’t a stool or a basket where you can put your purse or belongings in, usually they have that at the the table. The sommelier wasn’t certified but he was the sweetest kid! I could tell he was still in training due to his lack of knowledge of pairing the wine with the food, and I also learned that he tried deconstructed dishes that are usually left overs to help him pair the wine which I find very interesting because if you want consistency throughout the experience, every sommelier should be treated the same. I understand that he’s in training but why wouldn’t you have a certified sommelier around to assist him. The condensation from the wine dripped over my fiancé bread as it was being poured, I’m used a clean bottle. Overall the staff was nice and knowledgeable. Food: The food was so good but it wasn’t great. We picked the Gastronomy menu with the wine pairing. I found it odd that with the menu you still had to pick this or that, I’m used to enjoying everything on the menu as is but if we still need to pick between appetizers, main course, and dessert let’s not call it a tasting menu. The food was cooked and well prepared but the plating was boring and subpar, there was no theme to the menu it was just food on a white plate. None of the dishes wowed me it was just good. The wine paired well with the food but we didn’t get the background of what notes to taste for or look forward to, I didn’t enjoy the 4 empty glasses placed on the table for future wine to come, it over crowded our table and it made it a little complicating for our server to serve us food as things had to be moved around — not the type of service you would expect from a 3-star. Parking: Plenty of parking and valet available. Ambiance: Beautiful seating area and nice colonial feel. Vegetarian and’s vegan options available. Overall Summary: In short, you don’t get what you pay for. I suggest you save up the $2K you’re about to spend on this experience and purchase a plane ticket overseas and pay for a 3-star in Spain or France.

Cameron the cheese whiz entertained us but also put together a terrific cheese selection for us. The inn sent us home with some very tasty treats as well. Will do this again for sure. Also, seeing the kitchen in action from the window was spectacular.

I was a little concerned by some of the negative reviews

5/5 by 👻 @Thandeka M. on 03/17/2023

I was a little concerned by some of the negative reviews but I have to say that the Inn at Little Washington did not disappoint! We arrived on time for our reservation and were warmly greeted at the door. I was in awe of the huge floral bouquet at the entrance. The devil is in the details. Speaking of details, even the bathrooms were ornately decorated, had soft tissue paper, single use toothbrushes to freshen your breath and a perfume to sample (I guess that is in case you were anticipating any after dinner fun!)Anyway, I'm pretty sure you aren't planning on driving to Washington VA for the bathrooms so let's get to the fun part! The staff were all excellent. Will was our main server but we got to meet so many others. Will was amazing! I love that each server presented their favorite dish. Everyone was so knowledgeable of the menu. I got to learn more about chartreuse than I ever knew existed!Every dish that was served was unique with complex flavors and absolutely delicious. A word to the wise: Ask them to send you home with a vat full of the caviar chartreuse sauce that comes with the lobster so that you can take a bath in it and put it on EVERY food you eat. It was lick your plate good! One of my other favorites was the duck with the foie gras. The foie gras was a mix of heaven and butter in a bite. The fish carpaccio was just ok until I tried it with the wasabi ice cream that it came with. When I tasted the two together I thought "take me home Jesus cuz I have experienced the glory!"I really could go on and on about the menu but the truth is that by the time you go it will probably be a different menu anyway. If you are having any reservations about going, just do it! You only live once. No regrets.

Good, but not 3 stars and too expensive

4/5 by 👻 @shvarz on 03/15/2023

To begin with, the service was hit or miss. The waiter could not answer any questions about the menu or the wine. There was no consistent presence, a large group was working together and thus it felt rather impersonal. And given how many people were involved, it was surprisingly not attentive enough, missing opportunities to check on us. Later in the meal our waiter changed and the new one was better. Still, not something you expect from a 3-star Michelin. The food was generally excellently prepared, but lacked the inventiveness one would expect from a 3-star Michelin. OK, I got a perfectly prepared medium-rare piece of lamb with some herby crust, but it's just a piece of lamb. If you are a traditionalist and really enjoy old classics with a bit of a twist, then this place is for you. When I pay 1K for dinner, I expect something to tickle my senses. From the whole dinner I can only remember wasabi sorbet served with carpaccio that was unusual and inventive. To me this was a very good dinner, but it should have cost about half as much as we paid. So, we enjoyed it, but will not come back. DC these days has a lot of Michelin restaurants that give more for less money.

Although we have to booked way in advance, it was definitely worth the wait. From the amuse bouche to the dessert, to even getting the supplemental cheese (the cow man was also funny with all his jokes). By far, this place has my favorite amuse bouche: a take on a single potato chip. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable as well. We went during the holidays, so the entire place was decorated with Christmas decorations and it was beautiful. We even got to tour the kitchen. And when we left, they gave us a little to go 4 petits in a cute container.

This was such a lovely and fun experience for my first

5/5 by 👻 @Allison N. on 02/20/2023

This was such a lovely and fun experience for my first Three Michelin Star restaurant! We were here to celebrate our wedding with family and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience really special. The Inn itself is very small and elegantly decorated in English country style decor, but has a bit of a whimsical flare. Each room is decorated a bit differently so it was neat to see all the varieties throughout the property. The food is obviously the big draw and it doesn't disappoint. Each course was unique and delicious. My favorite course was the Caesar salad course, which had a bit of beef carpaccio with these small dollops of ice cream flavored like caesar dressing. It was crazy how good it was. I had the duck for my entree, which was topped with foie gras. My husband got the venison and while his was very delicious (it had a cranberry sauce that was divine), I think the duck took the cake! You can opt for an optional cheese dessert and I'd highly recommend it, as the cheese expert comes to your table and explains all the cheeses. They're all very good! Others at the table had an angel food dessert which was shaped like a bar of soap in a bathtub. The "bubbles" were passionfruit flavored and were incredible. We asked to get a tour of the kitchen and it was really cool. One of the bigger kitchens I've seen and I loved to hear the history of it from one of our waiters, who had worked at the property for over 30 years. An experience that was just really lovely all around. I can see us coming back for another special occasion!

My husband surprised me with reservations to the Inn for my birthday. I've been wanting to try it forever so I was so pleasantly surprised. I have to be honest, I got a bit of anxiety reading other peoples reviews leading up to the dinner. Were we going to sink a large amount of money for a poor experience?Thankfully, our's was pleasant in every way. The service was impeccable with a flow of people constantly circling the main dining room to make themselves available in case we needed anything. The bread service was constant, which I had read was a complaint in other reviews both for the lack their of and the need to feel satisfied because of portion size. Cocktails were on point and all of the food was phenomenal - presentation, flavors, just perfect.I also love the extra birthday touch to make you feel special - a personalized menu + birthday dessert. Two of my favorites were the hamachi crudo with the extra order of caviar. Simply perfect together - every bite. The carpaccio with the caesar ice cream was a treat. Really interesting with the ice cream texture and caesar dressing flavor. I had the juniper crusted venison and my husband did the duck breast. Both were delicious. We ordered the wine pairing, which I don't think we would do in the future. Mostly because of the amount they charge vs the quantity we receive. Our favorite and highlight service wise was the cheese guy, Cameron. Seriously hilarious and a real treat :)

3/5 by 👻 @Nick H. on 02/16/2023

Our family went there for my in-law's birthday over the weekend, I had pretty high expectations, since this is the only Michelin 3-star restaurant within the DMV area. I have to say I was a bit disappointed after spending $2k there. To me, it was just not at the level of a Michelin 3-star. When we first arrived, the car was valet, and we were warmly greeted by the reception and had our coats checked. The decoration in the restaurant felt like colonial time design, it was very classy and unique. Service was just all right. The server didn't clean up the bread crumbs on the table nor fold/replace our napkins when we went to restroom. The whole family ordered the same cocktail, for some reason, one of the glasses was significantly smaller than the rest, so I asked the server if there was a particular reason for that, and the answer was no. In my opinion, this is lack of consistency, it should've never happened, especially in a fine dining restaurant. The food itself was not that impressive or special either. There were two versions of menu, standard and vegan. We all picked the standard one. The tenderloin was pretty salty, mainly due to the black pepper layer on the top. Also, I wouldn't recommend the cheese platter if you're not a cheese expert, it is either a hit or a HUGE miss. At the same time, one of the almonds from the platter went bad, it was super bitter. Again, not acceptable. Rest of the dishes were mediocre, not even a single dish stood out. A lot of the Michelin 1- star and Michelin 2 - star restaurants put way more effort and creativity into their courses. Seriously, I really really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately, it just left a bad taste in my mouth. However, my wife suggested we go back other time for dining and lodging to get the full experience during summer or fall. Hopefully, it would redeem its name then.

I had my experience there one week ago with my brother and his wife and have nothing but the highest of praise. The Inn sent text reminders of the dinner several times leading up to the big day. We were met when we drove up and took advantage of the valet parking service. We arrived early enough to be able to take advantage of the shops across the street to browse and shop.We then went into the Inn and were seated in the beautiful lounge for pre-dinner drinks and appetizers. We then were led to our table and the journey continued. I chose the Gastronaut's Menu with the choice of Long Island Duck Breast. All courses were outstanding but what really made The Inn stand out was the customer service, from start to finish. Every aspect. As MacArthur once said, I shall return. STELLAR. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL!

We honestly didn't know what to expect and we arrived just after dark to a charming "town" that consists of only a couple blocks. The quaint little Inn was lit up with string lights and we were greeted by the valet who greeted us by name. They swept our bags out of our car and when the concierge brought us to our room, our bags were already there. Every single detail of this place was clearly thought out and the staff was fully aware that the magic IS in the details. As we were awe-struck by our beautiful room, Katie came knocking with 2 glasses of champagne. Our room has surround sound, really really cute cozy decor and a porch we wanted to enjoy but it was 12 degrees outside! We dressed up a little to go downstairs for our dinner reservation and the attention to service was really touching. They have their staff trained to treat each guest as if they ARE the guest of honor. Each of our servers brought amazing service but also their own unique personalities and stories and humor. Dinner was extravagant. The restaurant is a masterpiece of chef Patrick O'Connell. He has put his entire life's work into this, immaculate conception to delivery. His story and the experience can teach a person a lot about life, hard work, dreaming big, serving others and focus. The experience will stick with us for a long time to come.

As local Virginians, Inn has been on our hit list for years. What a disappointing night it turned out to be. First off, leaving a 3 Michelin-star restaurant not full is a sin. Thank goodness for the unlimited bread service or I would have left and had to stop somewhere for a follow-up meal. First up is the food. Nothing is bad, but also nothing is over the top amazing in taste, visuals, or quantity provided. Half the dishes were gastronomic experience size..except there aren't enough courses for that. The rabbit dish was VERY dry. What was most disappointing was the service. At 3 Michelin stars, you expect the best of the best. Our server, Katelyn, lacked sophistication. As did several other of the younger servers. Was this their first day? Katelyn asked us what we wanted to drink as soon as she approached the table. How about giving us a drink menu first? After she took our food orders, she forgot to ask again what we wanted to drink - we had to tell her. I had to ask for more bread - 3x. When I mentioned the duck being dry to Katelyn, her response was "oh I'm sorry about that, I hope the sauce makes up for it." Unbelievable. Also heard her forget to ask the table next to us what dessert they wanted and had to go back. One of the servers who delivered two of our courses reached OVER the table to set mine down, and his arms shook wildly both times. So much so, that the content of my plate moved both times - he never fixed it. The service was beyond elementary for a fine dining establishment that has no stars, let alone one with "3". For the hour+ drive, cost, and overall extremely disappointing experience, we will not be back, and will not recommend it to anyone who asks.

Excellent evening at the Inn

This is my 2nd 3-Michelin star restaurant and untold numbers of 1-Michelin starred restaurants. Overall, I found the service, atmosphere, food to be excellent. First, the atmosphere: very warm and southern. It gave me a comfortable feel which I liked. It's funny because usually I go for a more modern aesthetic, but I actually really loved the atmosphere here. Walking in the door, the fresh flower gave a beautiful scent. The crackling fireplace made it warm and cozy. Lots to look at with a busy, yet still cozy dinner setting. There are several rooms from what I could tell, but we were not far from the fireplace so that was lovely for us. The service was great. They kept the pace based on our clues. When I had to use the restroom, the pacing slowed to accommodate my return. The tables were a tad close together, but nothing bad. The food was great. I'm getting tired of going to fancy restaurants where they give us multiple amuse bouche(s) and they're large and it ends up we are full before the first course arrives. The Inn did the amuse bouche correctly - just a proper starter and a single one at that. On top of that, we loved real bread. One restaurant I went to brought us a puffy bread that was just air inside (like a balloon with a bread crust). Ugh. So I loved the Inn's bread offering. Outside of that, the dinner and wine pairings were delicious. We'd love to return.

Each posting on AppointmentTrader shows you which user submitted it and along with that provides a trackrecord of that user which indicates how much experience the user has and how many percent of their transactions resulted in them issuing a refund.

If there is no user posting that fits your schedule, you can bid on your preferred time.

Let's say Peter has a great morning and decides to take his three friends to The Inn at Little Washington at 6 PM the same day.

He checks the restaurant's website and sees that no reservations are available. He then looks at the The Inn at Little Washington page on AppointmentTrader, but finds that there are no user postings either.

That's where the community-driven bid process comes in.

Peter can place a bid on AppointmentTrader, which serves as a reward for any community member who chooses to work on securing the reservation. AT then notifies experienced users who may be able to help.

Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.

2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* 👻 @FulfilledThread16, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* 👻 @FulfilledThread16 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to 👻 @FulfilledThread16 for any questions Peter may have as 👻 @FulfilledThread16 user fills the bid.

3.) Finding the Reservation
* 👻 @FulfilledThread16 now uses their connections at The Inn at Little Washington to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If 👻 @FulfilledThread16 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.

4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, 👻 @FulfilledThread16 receives the $200 reward which is credited to 👻 @FulfilledThread16's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at The Inn at Little Washington!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
