The Ivy Kensington Brasserie London Reviews
Great Spot for a Quick Bite!
Just strolling around and popped in for dinner. Violeta was amazing – super nice and quick to help out with the menu and snag me a table. Been to a bunch of Ivy’s and I’ll definitely be back. Big thanks!
Very poor quality/ratio.
The service and decor are good. However, the dishes are really bad... the steak overcooked, the tartare very poorly seasoned (the mustard is very very strong 🥲) even though I said I didn't like it... and you also have to take into account the accompaniments. Anyway, for a glass of wine, a beer, 2 dishes we got it for €123… We are not going back.
Huge disappointment
We booked a table for 6 for breakfast to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday today. Our waitress was thoroughly miserable and surly. She rolled her eyes when we asked questions about the breakfast special and practically threw our plates down when delivering our breakfast. She made us feel so rushed, hovering rudely to take our plates. Worst of all she slid a small cake with a candle on to the table with the bill without as much as a smile or “Happy Birthday”. People on the next table even looked on in shock at her rudeness. I asked to see the manager to complain only to be told that she WAS a manager ….so we just paid and left ! Thank you for ruining what should have been a truly special experience …you should be ashamed of yourself!
Thank you
I came for a dinner with friends that visited me in UK. Friendly staffs with excellent service, loved the food. I would definitely recommend it
Always a nice meal.
Good ambience of a brasserie. Drinks are well made and decent wine list.
Beautiful place
Peaceful and beautiful decorated place, will definitely go back with my family and try the dinner menu that looked fantastic
Family place
Lovely place to enjoy a lovely meal with the whole family, speedy and yummy food. Definitely a place to recommend for a good bite to eat
Great restaurant
This place was so busy when we walked in but I can tell why! Service very well paced and very efficient to follow with yummy drinks and fantastic food.
Definitely worth a visit!
I come here often and write here as often as I can as I just want to rave about it! Service is always super and we are always made to feel so welcome. The food is always great, my kids were a bit disappointed when the sushi left the menu but as there is such a great choice they can always find something and are so well fed! Food is always spot on. It’s such a great place in a great location. Can not recommend highly enough :)
A perfect meal
The bar is superb & the menu is creative, lovely ingredients cooked with many combinations to make dining a delight, plain fare it’s not!!
Not as good as it used to be
I don’t know what’s going on with the Ivy restaurants recently but this is my third bad experience in the last few months. I used to enjoy my visits there but lately the standards have really dropped. On this occasion the service was absolutely dire and the food was definitely not as good as it used to be. I’ve heard the same things about the Covent Garden and Soho branches so there seems to be a drop in standards right across the board. It’s a real shame because they were my favourite restaurants and would usually recommend them to anyone. I really hope there is some improvement because I really miss the way they used to be.
This was my second time I went to this ivy restaurant.
Last time my friend took me there all I remember was they were busy and you must reserve a reservation to get a table. I didn't make a reservation but I was able to get in at the counter for the second time. The restaurant was super busy. I see everybody who works there was very efficient and work hard. I also realized that the restaurants logo name is on a lot of things. This restaurant is into perfection. The restaurant name Ivy is on every prints. It was very nice. There were so many people inside of the restaurant, however I was getting served fast and great food. I ordered two course meals. They were priced very reasonable. First course I had cream of mushroom soup. Then I had Parmesan truffle fries with steak for the 2nd course. Omg!! Delicious!!! I understood why this restaurant is super busy. It is because this restaurant has a great atmosphere, great service and great food. I love watching people work there. They were working so hard to make all these customers happy. I also loved being in London this restaurant was spotless clean. This restaurant has the best homemade fries. I mean in London. A lot of people think London has bland food. It is absolutely false information. They have great restaurants. I ate all my fries , soup, and steaks. I had a great time at the Ivy restaurant.
Suggested only one of options for good food in London.
Old school with traditional gift on the table. Ordered mushroom cream linguini which was very tasty but presentation was B. Would not go wrong.
Great service and good food.
Pretty close tables but still comfortable. Small selection of well prepared courses. Very nice decor and atmosphere. We're coming back.
They put up with me.
Met a colleague, ordered drinks because we were looking for a quiet little place. His was not a quiet little place it was abuzz with patrons enjoying their day. The guy made me order food because I was drinking, so I got fries. They were good. The waiter was nice. The decor was 1928 if it was a day. I kind of loved it.
I wanted to love this place but from the first moment it
I wanted to love this place but from the first moment it went further downhill . First it took 10 mins to get the waiter to come over to our table when we we're seated. The food was not that good, steak was chewy, the arinchini was just ok and the waiters and staff were a little un-attentive. They did give me a birthday dessert so they get points for that but overall not what I thought
4 star food, 2 star service, 3 star overall.
The food was a great price. We ordered from the set menu, which was a starter and a main for 19 pounds. This is an excellent deal for this part of town and I was so excited when I saw it online! I ordered a fresh prosciutto with toast that was excellent for my starter, and then Norwegian salmos for the main. I also had a Gin and Tonic with a Japanese gin which was excellent and effective. However, service was incredibly slow. My friend and I were both drunk from the gin and tonics mentioned above, so we didn't really care. But it took 45 minutes for my starter, just toast and fancy lunch meat! We think our waiter was a host do to his different uniform, and he forgot to put our order in. Waiting an hour is unacceptable, but the booze was strong, so still a decent night!
This was our best meal in London! Really tasty.
I had the caprese and chicken milanese. The service was eh since we had to keep flagging down people to get us anything. My personal problem was how fricking hot it was, but I know that's a me being a fat American problem and not the restaurant but God did it distract me. The chicken was so tender and tasty it was so welcome after a week of pretty icky meals.
It was our last morning in London and we wanted to end our
It was our last morning in London and we wanted to end our trip with a full English breakfast. We did what most people would do and went to look up our local option online. We found the Ivy Kensington Brasserie as a suggestion for just this kind of meal. We arrived and at first glance it appeared we made a wonderful choice. The interior of this restaurant is just beautiful and the staff was professional. That is where the positive ends and the food service begins. My son and I got the Full English that was supposedly touted as a fine example of that particular dish and my wife got an omelet. Neither of these items were inexpensive so again our expectations were high from the beauty of the restaurant, the reviews online, expense of the items, and service... Those expectations would soon be crushed when we received the food. The full English was a collection of what looked to be frozen \ packaged breakfast items. The first hint something was off was the bacon. Instead of the English bacon there was America bacon that was basically of the quality you would get on sale at Walmart. I mean it was bacon so it was not terrible but it was not worthy of such a pretty and expensive place. The potatoes were an odd tater tot kind of thing that must have come from a bag. The beans were fresh out of the can and the sausage was something you would get at a Denny's anywhere in the US. Mind you we had good English sausage and bacon on our trip so we knew what to expect and this was not it. The eggs were OK but even then the yolks were overdone. In short you would be better any day of the week with a grand slam at Denny's over the full English at the Ivy Kensington Brasserie. I really do mean that sincerely, Denny's has better breakfast. My wife's omelet was overcooked, poorly prepared, and poorly presented. The wait staff was French so I suppose they know what an omelet should look and task like so perhaps more Frenchmen or women should be hired to work the line in the back. Our bill came out to around 60 pounds including the two coffees we got with our meal. I only gave two stars instead of one because the place was spotless, pretty and the service was competent.
I used to come here for work usually once or twice a year
I used to come here for work usually once or twice a year and enjoyed it, but have not since the pandemic. When I went twice this week it has fallen so downhill it's terrible. Sat down at 8 and nobody helped us until 9pm. Our server was incredibly rude and she took our drinks and food order and left. A red flag was that we ordered burgers but they didn't ask for the cooking temperature. The food arrived very quickly and was awful - burger was overdone, old, and dry. Tasted like it has been made days ago and just reheated. Our drinks literally never came. We kept trying to flag someone but they ignored us. Finally managed to get someone who rudely brought over a check. Left at 11. Avoid at all costs
Horrible service
Sat at bar being ignored for :20 not getting drinks till :30. Our waiter was surly and rude. We had to ask for water multiple times, ask him to take empty wine glasses, ask to order….the service was the absolute worst ever.
Terrible cold food & poor customer service
We visited The Ivy Kensington for breakfast on Mother’s Day which was terrible & completely spoiled our morning we arrived & received a warm welcome by the hosts at the front desk but it all went downhill from there. We were seated fairly near the bar & close to one of the staff till areas so could hear staff conversations constantly. We waited around 15 minutes for our host to take our drinks order when the drinks finally arrived they were cold so it was more like iced tea than hot breakfast tea the milk was missing & we had to ask 3 times for milk. we ordered our breakfast which took around 30 minutes for the first one to arrived it had one piece of bacon & again was cold the toast arrived cold, black & without butter the other 2 breakfast arrived around 10 minutes later again cold plus items missing & cold burnt toast with no butter one of the breakfasts a full English arrived with several items missing when questioned the lady who we assume was the manager was arguing that we ordered it this way due to an allergy which was not the case after a 5 minute argument she agreed to order the missing items which arrived around 20 minutes later by this stage the first half of the breakfast had been eaten & everyone else had finished their food there was no apologies at any stage & we heard the senior staff member & our host complaining about us behind us which is very unprofessional & extremely rude. When the bill arrived the items that were missing from the full English had been charged to our bill when we questioned this it was another big deal for them to correct the bill. It was a horrible experience long waits, cold food, cold tea, missing food items, terrible customer service , unprofessional staff I would not return or recommend this branch absolutely dreadful I really don’t understand how it takes so long to make cold hot drinks & food & when mistakes are made the staff want to argue then stand behind you bad mouthing you & charge you extra for their mistake customer service & food quantity need huge improvement.
Forced early morning visit to the barbers .....!
My rating is really 3.5. 2 x negative comments that in some ways spoilt a good Breakfast . 1. The online booking for Breakfast made us have to arrive at 8.30 am today .No other times where available .Ok.... we booked .Turned up and the restaurant had less than 15 people at 8.30 and no more than 26 by 9.45 am. It was very very quiet .So why not able to make a booking for later than 8.30am. Feels like the online system cheated us . 2. The manager needs to inform staff that the small till ,service area as you enter is NOT a bathroom and to see a member of staff rubbing both hands through his hair etc styling it when Leaning over food service items and then with no hesitation continue to serve customers food using his hands is not exactly nice . CCTV will show it happening I am sure and if in doubt , he has a "Kiss " tattoo on his neck . Food was fine. Staff lovely (as usual ) Coffee perfect for that time of the morning .
Not really up to standard
When I booked our table online for four of us to dine here (to celebrate 2 big birthdays) I asked for a nice table in the notes section of the booking online. This was completely overlooked as they put us on a table which was right next to the ladies toilets, just across from the kitchens and right next to a till area where there was a constant stream of staff flapping around us. Speaking of staff, there seemed to be lots walking around but not actuallly doing much. We waited an absolute age to get our drinks and then one of them, the Bloody Mary cocktail, had so much spice and worcestershire sauce in it, it was like drinking vinegar. We sent that back and got a replacement (which again took an age) only to find that the second Bloody Mary was like drinking a glass of tomato juice, no zing, no spice at all and certainly no vodka. We all belived that somebody behind the bar was having a joke with us. We didn't want to make any more of a fuss than had already been made, this was supposed to be a celebratory meal. The food is ok. Beware that any main course you choose is most likely not to include any vegetables - so half an aubergine that is aready £18 then needs a small bucket of fries with it, another £5+ so it ends up being quite an expensive vegetarian dish! Would we go again? I doubt it.
Lunch
Really nice place. The front of the house was really Welcome and helpful. The waiter was really kind . We definitely will come back
Excellent cocktails & a Good menu
The food never fails to satisfy & impress & the cocktails are excellent. The back terrace is wonderful for afternoon tea
London weekend with family
Lovely food but service not very attentive. Had to keep asking for the wine to be poured since it was not placed adjacent to our table. Very noisy and tables packed too close together.
A bit of a disaster
Read a review that food arrived before pre dinner drinks, thought, oh dear, but that’s exactly what happened to us. Had to send food back so we could enjoy our drinks. Ordered desserts and cheese that just didn’t turn up. Left disappointed that the Ivy brand is becoming so debased. Was offered complimentary desserts - refused - and removed service charge from bill. On a brighter note, the shepherds pie was good.
Birthday dinner
The restaurant has a lovely feel of Bohemian French meets Victorian, with plush seating, a great ambiance, and charming staff. The service was excellent and the food divine. Try the salted sourdough absolutely delicious. We all enjoyed our meals. The chicken Milanese is really good value. The waiter also checked if it was a special occasion at the beginning of the meal and my husband whose birthday it was brought a birthday treat of a chocolate profiterole. The restaurant is convenient to hotels in the area. We will definitely go back next time we are in London.
Where to begin
My dining experience was comprehensively bad except for the poor harried and untrained, but lovely staff who were trying to deal with the failings of this restaurant. To start with we ordered cocktails and the bar tender clearly did not have a clue of how to prepare a basic cocktail. The restaurant is French - it is called a brasserie - and they did not know the difference between a Kir and Kir royale - one of the most famous French drinks so I got a glass of cassis without wine. After teacing them what a kir is we finally got one- albeit with too much cassis to my liking. Subsequently every wine we ordered was ultimately unavailable - we had to change every single order of wine as it was unavailable. Each time it took alot of time to tell us that. Trainees of which there were many were completely unhelpful because they aren’t trained - they were standing around kinda just having fun with each other. Even though they are trainees they need to be told to be effective on a basic level - not just indicate they can’t do anything otherwise they should not be on the floor - they represent the restaurant so should at least be able to get help. Now to the food - we mostly ordered the special - the cod fillet. It came and was practically inedible but we did because we were so hungry. There was so much horse radish on it it took your head off and the fish completely dried out. We all got mash potatoes which we actually hadn’t ordered but thank goodness because we could mix it to take down the heat. The potatoes that came with the special were suppose to be smashed potatoes which is a specific recipe but the ones we got were simply boiled potatoes cut up. As for the mashed we got in addition the waitress confirmed they were complimentary (too right) as we hadn’t ordered them. Later when we told the poor woman (lovely woman) that the food was terrible they offered us some free desserts. Okay and we were gracious for the sake of the staff but this is a restaurant in trouble which is ruining the reputation of the overall ivy brand - I’ve gone to the main restaurant several times but I feel if this is the level of service and food in their many branches I have to believe overall standards have gone down. The branch is an expensive restaurant and should not be this terrible - a big mistake. I will never go to one again.
Beautiful space, really gorgeous design.
Warm, friendly staff. Food was amazing and reasonably priced. Loved it here!
We had an amazing dinner.
Started with the Stilton & walnut soufflé and salted sourdough. I had the roasted chicken & he had fish & chips. We really enjoyed everything - including the signature cocktails.
This place has beautiful atmosphere with roaring 20's
This place has beautiful atmosphere with roaring 20's accents. The ambiance is exceptional but the service was not so much. I was seated with a table of 3 and we proceeded to sit down at our table. The hostess was rude first attempt about the reservation status so make sure you plan accordingly before approaching this restraunt. Our cocktails and water took precisely 13 min to come out and we did not recieve any of our food in the 25 min window that we ordered. We got the 8 oz sirloin (medium rare) ,the sole, crispy duck salad, and the linguine with mushroom and truffle cream sauce. The sirloin was over cooked and took approximately 23 min to come out. The sole was heavy on the bones ( dangerously thick bones); which we were not warned about prior to ordering. The linguine was oil heavy and contained no cream whatsoever. I am a chef at hotel bel air and I have a deep love for food and the overall experience brought me to tears. I am deeply discouraged by the overall quality of this restraunt and the waiter proceeded to argue with me about the sole. If you have a pallet for good quality fine dining food this is definitely not the establishment.
The beef tartare was yummy.
This place was packed when I came but I got a table for one right away. The service was fast and the waiter was nice.
