Let's start off with the positives, since there weren't many. They are located not too far from the train station (about a ten minute walk, maybe more if you're struggling with luggage). Their staff is beyond hospitable and the neighboring restaurant, Mr. Coopers, delivers delicious food and cocktails. Now for the bad...although the hotel is very grandiose looking on the outside, the inside left much to be desired. The rooms are old and dirty, with a real emphasis on dirty. I wiped down the toilet seat when I first walked in and it's clear that it had not been cleaned or maybe even used in a while because the paper came up black with dust. The mattress was probably the most uncomfortable mattress I've ever slept on, you could feel the coils and some other hard shit through the sheets. It was so tough that at times I had to wake up and reposition myself because a portion of my body would fall asleep (prickly feeling and all). There was no outlet near the bed which really wasn't convenient at all. The remote control was so dirty I threw it in a plastic ziploc bag to use. And for an expensive hotel, I couldn't for the life of me understand why they felt they had to permanently chain the iron to the ironing board. To add insult to injury, I asked concierge if they could book a taxi for me to the airport as I had an early flight. I confirmed several times with them that the taxi would accept credit card, which they assured me every single time I asked. Thankfully the taxi was there at the time requested but sure enough when we arrived to the airport he told me that it was a cash only taxi. I WAS OUT OF CASH! I literally had to put together the few pounds I had left and gave him $20 to cover the rest (which obviously didn't cover the 25 pound cost). The taxi driver was very nice but fuck man, that's not the kind of shit I want to deal with at 4 am.Thanks, but no thanks, Midland.
