Fully deserving of Michelin Star
I took my son who is at Uni for a lovely dinner. Beautifully but simply decorated. Friendly, professional service and the food was superb. We went with the 4 course menu which was perfect. We avoided the wine pairing as we were driving. The only slight downside was that the tables who had ordered the wine pairing menus had constant explanations of the wines by the Sommelier which we could hear perfectly. The restaurant is small so I would assume this is hard to avoid. Prices are on the high side but to be expected. All in all a very enjoyable evening.
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommend - amazing food and accommodation
What a lovely establishment. This was our first time staying overnight, but we’ve been lucky to eat at the restaurant on a number of occasions. As always, the tasting menu was prepared to a high standard. The staff were friendly and attentive. The fire was on in the lounge, so we got to enjoy a drink next to the fire which is always lovely. The suites were lovely. As expected, everything was to a high standard and we loved having our breakfast in the loft area. We had one tiny quibble - the lack of water pressure in the shower. But overall an amazing experience that is highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyAlways enjoyable. Always perfect.
As always, everything was just as we’ve come to expect. Delightful menu prepared and served flawlessly by friendly staff. this time we stayed in the rooms and the accommodation is similarly faultless with everything just so. Breakfast was healthy, simple with numerous options. Looking forward to our next visit already.
Be the first to ReplyTasting menu - deserving of the star
We ordered the tasting menu on our visit and were not disappointed. The white fish dish (cod and mussel based) was the best white fish I have ever had. I had to stop myself from licking the plate. The restaurant is beautiful to sit in as well as the lounge. We weren’t drinking alcohol on this occasion but the drinks menu looked excellent with some luscious wines on offer. Only comments would be on parking (very tight and lack of spaces- if you can get a taxi and enjoy a glass of wine I would) and the restaurant was a little chilly compared to the lovely cosy lounge.
Be the first to ReplyA relaxingly formal ding experience.
This was a second visit for my wife and I. last time, several years ago, we stayed for one night and had the 6 course tasting menu. and it was first class. This time we stayed for 2 night for the Gourmet Stay. having the A La Carte menu on the first night and the Tasting menu on the second. Just like our first visit the food was delicious. The service was first class, friendly but discrete , the staff seemed to appear at your table just when you wanted them but then disappear, returning at just the right moment. The dishes of the tasting menu seemed small at first but as the meal continued we realised that the portions were spot on, allowing you enjoy each course without ever feeling over full. The two highlights for us were the loin of roe deer and the final sweet course. Both these dishes were paired with wines so perfect that the food and wine perfectly complimented each other. This was especially true for the sweet. This was a chocolate and passion fruit mouse and a banana sorbet paired a dessert wine, Domain Fontanel Maury 2019. My wife and I are no fans of dessert wines often finding them so sweet as to be almost sickly, but this combination of chocolate, sorbet and sweet wine was fantastic and we finished our meal with massive grins on our faces. Thank to all the kitchen staff, table staff and sommelier. A buffet breakfast is served in your room and you can forget coffee, toast and marmalade, although if that's all you want you can order just that. You ordered your meal the night before and staff arrive to set up the meal in the dining area in the upper level of your suite. Again first class service.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely worth a visit
We had been meaning to visit for ages and finally did so this month. We also stayed overnight and had breakfast, As they have very few rooms they do not provide a full cooked breakfast, but deliver a continental breakfast to your room. However, this was excellent. Served and set up in your own living room table with proper cutlery and cloth napkins. A great start to the day. Dinner was also very good, with one or two small gripes. My pork starter and intermediate course of quail were both superb. As for mains, my wife's halibut was average and did not look particularly appealing. My beef was well cooked, although nut quite as unctuous as I would have expected. The sweetbread was very good, but the tongue was cold. We both had the same rhubarb dessert, which was very good. Perhaps a little bit more ginger would make it even better. The amuse buches and petit fours were excellent and made for a very filling meal. As for the wine; I know that restaurants need a mark up, but over 4 times retail price is a bit steep. Overall I would have rated our experience as 9/10, but I think that a couple of points keep it below a *****.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Visit
Visited here whilst staying in Fife for a few days and it was brilliant. Went on a week night so was quiet but doesn’t take anything away from the restaurant and if anything made it a more romantic visit. Went with the tasting menu. Every course was very well presented and just seemed to get better and better with each course that arrived. Have to make a special mention for the venison dish. Although when I first seen it, I thought it was overcooked but on eating wow. Probably the best tasting venison I have had and it cut like a hot knife through butter, superb. The staff were very welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful and knew and fully understood the food being served. Fantastic visit and well worthy of the Michelin Star as I have eaten at a couple and it’s up there with the best.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous overnight dining experience
A truly fabulous dining experience and perfect overnight stay at the Peat Inn Restaurant and Rooms. We checked in late afternoon and were delighted with our split level suite, which was beautifully furnished and a stones throw away from the restaurant - the complimentary champagne, sherry and chocolates were a lovely touch! We popped over for a pre dinner drink to the restaurant where the staff quickly lit the fire, brought our drinks and regaled us with the long history of the Inn. A quick change in our room before returning for a truly delicious taster menu extravaganza and matching wines, topped off with the opportunity to meet Chef Smeddle. A continental breakfast delivered to our room the next morning topped off a truly fabulous and special overnight stay. Would totally recommend!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious tasting menu, superb staff, amazing wine
We came here for dinner after hearing so much about it from a couple of friends who have been a few times. Absolutely blown away and can now see why they have been saying we have to go for dinner here. Everything was just perfectly setup for an amazing evening. From the moment we stepped in to the lounge area and received a genuinely warm welcome to the moment we left couldn't be faulted in any way. Every course was delicious and a real work of art on the plate. We went for the tasting menu because every course just sounded great and we weren't disappointed. My personal favourite was the venison main course, served with venison haggis and such perfectly cooked venison. My girlfriend on the other hand cannot stop raving about the cod loin which had been cooked in a smoked butter. And dessert was a real show-stopper of a chocolate souffle. The service was friendly and personal without being overbearing and the knowledge of the waiting staff and their wine recommendations really made the night very special. We will most definitely be returning for another meal in the near future! Can't recommend enough!
Be the first to ReplyGreat but watch your bill
We had a delicious lunch with perfect service in a lovely room. We were a party of 9 having the set lunch menu. The restaurant overcharged us by £ 535 so always check your bill To be fair when we challenged them after we got home they came clean but that doesn’t leave as good a taste as the food did
Be the first to ReplyFantastic 50th meal and stay.
So , for my 50th we decided to try this Michelin starred restaurant and rooms. Lots of great reviews on here so that helped choosing. We were staying for the night so on arrival headed to the “rooms” building and were met by the friendly receptionist who booked us in. Guest room was lovely , split level with grand views over the private garden grounds and of the surrounding countryside (and alpacas lol) . Very modern and recently refurbished i believe (see my pics) Later we popped over to the restaurant (don’t need to stay to dine here , but booking is essential) and were greeted by the again friendly and helpful staff and had a pre dinner drink in the lounge area before dinner. Food and drink was excellent and most worthy of the Michelin star ! Lots of delicious courses (and wine) were enjoyed. Being able to return to a cosy relaxing room in seconds was a bonus afterwards! In the morning our pre ordered continental breakfast was brought to our room by two members of staff who also laid the table and set up all the various items. Highly recommended!

I have had the most wonderful diner at the Peat Inn and although I thought it may be pricey it was actually fantastic value for money and you get to enjoy the expertise of a great team of experts that really make your night ( my night) truly memorable. My favourite dish of the night was the red mullet, middle course of the main menu, out of this world , thank you everyone for a great service. I want to mention Nico for great wine recommendations, took into consideration my Spanish background to point out some great Spanish choices.
Be the first to ReplyNot good!!
Very disappointing. Had been on a number of occasions but this time really not good. Receptionist glued to her seat, spoke briefly with instructions. Heavy door which we had to struggle with ( we are in our seventies.) Went to the bar for a drink but had to find assistance as staff eating. Only the French waiter spoke.. ignored completely by others in their race to get ready for dining. Pleasant staff at table especially the French waitress. Food not good. Sole dry , no sauce. I think they should concentrate on flavour as opposed to “fanciness” Beds comfy, noisy sliding door to bathroom, hard sofa. Very little reading material. Breakfast was the better part served by two pleasant ladies to our room ( only option.)
Be the first to Reply10th Anniversary stay
My wife and I came for our tenth wedding anniversary. We had wanted to come for a long time, and it was definitely worth the wait. From the moment we pulled into the car park we were made to feel welcome - Rosie gave us the warmest, most effusive welcome....which started before we'd even made it through the door of the reception! I didn't appreciate that every room is basically a mini suite - and has it's own living room mezzanine level...so loads of space to unwind and relax in. The room was clean and beautifully presented, with lovely Noble Isle toiletries in the bathroom and we had a half bottle of Champagne waiting for us. We had a couple of drinks in the bar area shortly after arriving. The staff in the bar were still setting up for the evening service, but were still highly attentive and super friendly. The drinks were amazing - I HIGHLY recommend the 'Glowing Embers' cocktail. We had the taster menu. There were a couple of choices that my wife wasn't that keen on and they were swapped out with zero fuss. The paired wines (payed a bit more for 'prestige' wines) were sublime (Riesling and Margaux especially) and generous servings. The sommelier was brilliant...good banter as well and did a great job educating my wife and I on the manifold intricacies of wine production (blends are good in wine!). The food was utterly amazing, as good as, if not better than anywhere we've eaten (including Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles and Martin Wishart's at Cameron House), and to give you an idea of the culture of the place...some of the front of house staff have been there for over ten years. Everyone we met was highly personable, knowledgeable and attentive. A thoroughly enjoyable night away and way to spend our anniversary.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect from start to finish
We ate here for dinner last night and had the six course tasting menu. It was quite simply one of the best meals that we have ever had, complimented amazingly by the matched wines which we loved and have to give a special mention to Nico for his passion and knowledge for wine as he presented the wines to us before each course arrived. Even if we wanted to, I don't think we could find a single fault with anything from the warm yet professional service and staff to six courses of absolutely perfect food. Really cannot recommend this enough, we were quite simply blown away by the entire experience and cannot wait to return sometime.

Came for evening set menu. Food was excellent and chef and staff substituted some dishes for me as I have a shellfish allergy. All v seamless. We were not seated in the main restaurant but in a room set with tables for 2. It was very difficult to have a conversation without all the other diners overhearing- thankfully it wasn’t too busy. The staff were on the whole excellent- very professional and knowledgeable. However one of our servers was a bit of an oversharer. I think we knew his whole back story by the amuse bouche! All very one way and a bit intense. Maybe it was nerves as I think he was relatively new to the job. Also coffee at the end of the meal took an age to arrive. As I say almost perfect.

Fabulous food and service. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Slightly disappointed with the wine. £75 pp and only a small glass. Been to places where you had your wine topped up. Unfortunately not here. All in all it did not spoil the lovely experience.

We chose a delicious three course meal which was served in a very friendly atmosphere. There was nothing that was too much trouble for the staff and we were made to feel very comfortable. Although there was a bone in my starter it didn't stop me enjoying this course. The lamb was not cooked as much as we would have liked but it was still very tasty. The dessert was a delight. So beautiful to look at and it tasted wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyFood was excellent tired room was a disappointment
2nd visit to the Inn, the food & service in the restaurant was excellent. The sore point was the room. Downstairs was fine nice & clean. The upper lounge was extremely tired with dirty marks over the walls. A old dirty sofa bed & footstool that was burst & needing replaced. This may sound small but we were charged top money & expect the room to be in good condition. We would return for a meal but not to stay as it need decoration & replacement furniture. Disappointed ..

Stayed for 2 nights at this super restaurant / hotel. Food first class and service certainly matched that. Would recommend for a short stay.

We absolutely loved this place, this is now the second time we have dined here, the food is fantastic and flawless, the serving staff are fantastic and professional.
We really did love this place and can't wait to come back.
Celebration
We stayed over so a relaxing evening ahead. We had the taster menu and it did not disappoint. The was as you would expect well presented and each of the courses pulled you palate in different directions. Sadly I did not retain the full list of dishes. Memorable was the venison and the dessert was a stunning chocolate soufflé. Wonderful night.

We visited the Peat Inn prior to lockdown 2020, I was 8 months pregnant at the time. When asked about any dietary requirements I pointed out that I was pregnant which meant there was things I couldnt eat, and the servers response was "you'll need to tell us what you can't have". This was difficult as it wasn't entirely clear what you were getting from the tasting menu, so I didnt add any more at this point. Having used multiple wedding vouchers during the previous 11 months to this point, including other Michelin starred restaurants, every other response to my dietary requirements was essentially no problem.
Our first course came and I started eating it without realising it was raw fish, which is something I shouldn't have been eating so I ended up pretty upset and pretty much ruined the night.
No fault to the food, but bad customer service. The cost of our drinks were taken off the bill, which must have been their form of apology, until they realised we had a voucher for the food.
All we had hoped for.
Everything was as we would have wished for. The tasting menu a delicious wide range of flavours, I took ages to choose my wine and they did not mind in the least from a brilliant list including corovin wines. Staff very friendly and all knowledgeable about the food. The atmosphere was natural and unaffected. A genuinely classy place.

I've been here 3 times with friends and have not been disappointed. Every single dish is outstanding. The attention to detail and the quality are brilliant. The staff are attentive and professional. I can not wait to return. Deserving of the star they have received.
