Really good- great atmosphere with outdoor fireplace
Such a quaint and historic looking space. Nice old buidling and HUGE outdoor area (with a roof, which was great because it was drizzling). On the side of the bar there is a big outdoor fireplace which was really nice. Service was pretty good- nothing too special. Food was very high quality. Filet was perfectly cooked. Inventive potatoes with filet, and the mashed potatoes (got as a side) was delicious. For dessert, the creme brulee was pretty good, but the peach cake was stupendous. Highly recommend.

I flew in from out of state, overnight, just so I could give my mother a birthday celebration. She chose The Raymond because she craved the renowned Prime Rib. She did book us a reservation and specifically noted it was a Birthday occasion.
The Raymond no longer serves Prime Rib. They do not have a steak of any sort on their menu. What to do? I wanted my mom to have something close to what she had expected. We were offered a Tomahawk cut steak, for $140., but I chose it to try and salvage the dinner. Thankfully, the steak cooked as ordered and delicious but that was the only good part of our meal. The sides were a pureed glop called mashed potatoes and blackened Brussels sprouts that looked and tasted as though they'd been cooked and reheated for a few days in a row.
Desert was also a letdown. A Creme Brulee was so cold and solid under the heated crust, it seemed to have been frozen before coming to our table and we didn't eat it after tasting.
Table service was very slow for us. We definitely didn't feel well taken care of. If I had an extra day in town, I would have taken my Mom somewhere else to try and make up for the lackluster evening at The Raymond.
What was good? The parking valet was very polite and prompt. Cocktails were good after a very long wait to receive them. A fried oysters appetizer was attractive and tasty.
Check you bill against the price on the menu!
Lovely time, sitting by the fire was to die for but the prices on the menu were $10 less than the price we paid.

Love this place! Nikki is amazing and everything is just perfect.
Lovely outside areas .cocktails are delicious and so is the food.
Can't wait to visit when in the area Thank you all!
Very Disappointing ......
The Raymond has been around a long time...but I'm afraid under a few different owners / chefs, etc. I was at one time a really great restaurant, and we have had some wonderful meals here...
I'm afraid that those days are gone. We started with an octopus, mole appetizer...the mole' was tasteless...we ordered focaccia bread...not ready so they gave us some dry wheat bread with "seasonal" butter....?? not good, and about $15... I had the sea bass and my wife had some kind of chicken.... both were very poorly presented, and worse tasting.... we did order dessert...a small cube of bread, with a dab of ice cream...she didn't like it...(which is good, as there wasn't enough for two)...I didn't think that it was bad. We even had some lukewarm coffee to go with it!!
All in all............really, really not good..... a waste of about $200.... Oh well live and learn, but in these 'covid' days some of us are too quick to let our guard down...
Keep looking....there must be better places in Pasadena...
The food was fabulous
The food was so good we wondered where the chef came from and was told that he had started just before Covid hit. The service matched the food.

This is a quaint very romantic restaurant run off the side of Fair Oaks and the South Pasadena Freeway. The food here is decent I'll bet on the pricey side. The only thing I thought was interesting is that there was a trellis covering most of the outdoor dining area and there was a rather large possum crawling around in it. I was a little worried about dropping sitting my plate but other than that it was kind of cute

We stopped by on a Wednesday night just to look at the Happy Hour menu (4-6pm) for a future visit. The host at the front was very nice and handed me a menu but it wasn't the Happy Hour menu so walked into the bar area. We were greeted with smiles and a waiter brought us water, we told him we are not eating just looking, but it didn't matter they served us anyways. The hostess was very nice and came over to check on what we would like to drink or eat. We advised them we were running a 10k route and just stopped by to look, we were not dressed up to eat here but the staff didn't mind. I will be back because I love the atmosphere and the friendly staff.

The Raymond is a highly regarded restaurant in Pasadena. Reviews in the local press (including Los Angeles) are very complimentary. It gets high marks for the bar which promises about any cocktail imaginable and many created especially by the bartenders. The food menu is equally innovative. Not only are the entrees out of the ordinary, but the accompaniments are thought provoking as well. Not only do they sound good, but they are very tasty as well.
One of the chefs happens to be a personal friend of a family member. During dinner, he came by our table and we had an enlightening conversation about how the dishes are uniquely prepared and how he likes to continually improve them.
For a memorable meal, the Raymond is well worth a visit.
Outdoors with Fine dining
Wonderful salads and sandwiches and a fine wine list. Our first time, but can see why this has reach classic status. Would plan to try more of their menu the next time we are in Pasadena. A little tricky to find the entrance off a busy road and a tight Valet area for a crowd arriving.

Really enjoyed my return to The Raymond after being away from the area for about 8 years.
Great cocktails, and much better food than I remember from before. Hats off to the chef for some very creative dishes and healthy choice options.
