The Russian Tea Room New York Reviews from The Last Year
Went for a wedding and stroganoff was outrageous.
Not sure if they do the vodka ice slide table side but can't hurt to ask

We had reservations weeks beforehand for Mother's Day, we were there to celebrate Mother's Day and our daughter's graduation from Columbia a few days prior, sadly, we were very disappointed by the service. In fact, it was some of the worst service we've ever received at a restaurant yet our bill was over $400. The one positive is, it is a beautiful interior. We will not be back. We waited at our table for 15 minutes before someone brought us a glass of water, then it was another 10 to 15 minutes until our wait person greeted us and took our order, then it was another 30 minutes for our food to arrive and one of the items was undercooked, so had to be sent back, Then it was another 20 minutes while our tea sat getting cold while we waited for milk, then it was another 20 minutes when they brought our scones out but no clotted cream.

While I consider much of the inside decor a bit over the top and tacky, this spot surprised me with the quality of the meal and the service was ok (while not the most attentive, they had all the basics down). Inside, beyond the red room art and decor, you find yourself seated at booths in tables that face the center area; classic tea sets for $120+, and caviar and other things to try. Starter bread was either the sourdough (good) or the wheat (skipped). I had the beef stroganoff, which was excellent - the pasta al dente, mushroom creme sauce very good, and a giant piece of beef in the center. Dessert, a delicious creme brulee that was just right. Overall pleasantly surprised on the food. Decor.. well, it's interestingly garish. And they have some interesting jeweled decor at the front. Not busy at lunch on a weekday. About $100 for two at lunch.
I usually write long reviews.
If I could give zero stars, I would. I'm going to write and re-write about this: HORRIBLE. One of the worst restaurants I've eaten.
The Russian Tea Room is an iconic New York establishment.
It was featured in the 1982 movie "Tootsie' starring Dustin Hoffman, it was also in the tv show "Gossip Girl". Fun fact, Madonna used to work here as a coat check back in the day! I was thrilled to finally be able to visit the Russian Tea Room on my recent visit. They're famous for their red dining booths. I came in for afternoon tea which cost $160 per person. You get your choice of champagne, prosecco or sparkling cider. It comes with an assortment of delicious sandwiches and blinis, assorted seasonal scones, cupcakes, macarons and mini crème brulée. Everything was delicious, except the cupcakes were a bit stale. I tried the Fromosa Oolong Tea and they serve it with warm cherries. It was a great experience to dine there. I love the history of celebrities dining here in the past. Service was excellent, our waitress was attentive and even chatted with us for a bit. Make sure you pay this place a visit on your next NYC trip!
I have visited this location a few times in the past.
My most recent visit was very disappointing as there were a dozen influencers who arrived and decided that they would change the soft subtle ambiance by turning on very bright highlight lights to illuminate their experience. All other diners were complaining and affected by the disturbance. I don't want this to be about race, but I will state that if this were a group of white teenage boys, there would have been little tolerance. When I requested from our server that the lights be turned off or dimmed, he simply stared at us, did not respond and walked away. This must see place will realize eventually that their time has passed. Last, the crème brûlée struggles to call itself a dessert.

Came here for the "afternoon tea", service was great, the food was not. The "Royal Afternoon Tea" is $160 per person due to the "caviar" tasting. The caviar isn't even half a spoonful total on all the Bellinis. The food did not taste fresh, the pastries were a joke, red velvet and chocolate cupcakes that tasted like they were bought from the dollar store. Scones were hard and heated as if they were put in the microwave. The overall look inside was cool, but I will never be returning and only reason why 1 star was not given is because the servers were nice. Not worth $410 after tip.

My boyfriend took me for tea and dessert on a Sunday afternoon. We had a great time. I appreciate the little details in life, and found that was what made The Russian Tea Room so special, the little details. Sitting in the dining room is very pleasing to the senses. The candy red banquets, the beautiful uniforms the servers wear, the pretty water pitchers, the formally set table, the interesting people at the other tables. I had the best time. This is my happy place. Great place for catching up with a best friend, going on a date, solid spot for when the parents are in town, to celebrate a birthday, or anniversary, wedding proposal, etc. It is a New York treasure.
Iconic space with great service.
I was a solo traveler, and they made me feel right at home.

Came here specifically for the afternoon tea, and the experience was so quaint and lovely. We managed to get reservations right at opening hour, as did many other parties. A couple minutes before opening time, there was already a small line forming. We were all brought to our tables very smoothly. The restaurant was not at capacity during my time dining in, but I would recommend a reservation just to be safe! Upon walking in, we were immediately in awe at the beautiful, regal decor of the tea room. The colors were so vibrant and opulent. There are two main options for afternoon tea: $145 Afternoon tea or $160 Royal afternoon tea The main difference between the two options is the amount of caviar provided in the caviar tasting. In my opinion, the set is pricer than I would like, but you do get a lot with it. The afternoon tea includes: a glass of bubbly, a personal tea kettle, a finger sandwich tower, and dessert tower. I appreciated the variety of sweet and savory foods provided. The taste of the actual food and tea itself was standard, nothing too gourmet, but the overall experience and ambiance of the afternoon tea was worthwhile. Surprisingly, I left feeling full and satisfied. The service we received was great. Our server was attentive and ensured that our food came out at a properly timed pace, without rushing us. Overall, I had a great afternoon tea experience here and would recommend!
