The Chef cannot even do a decent medium and medium rare steak. They can't even get the quality right. Used to be good and recommended my Friend over. Disappointed

Never to go again!!!The Ship Restaurant used to served good Steaks, cos I had celebrated my Birthday there, a long time ago. Staffs was very attentive and everything seemed good too. I had said to myself that I must go there again, but now I must say NO!Food was SO SO and fruit juice tasted like added lots of water to it (diluted)Not worth the Money, Jack's Place served better Steaks!
Be the first to ReplyLack of service.
Order coke, the staff open it before reaching my table. Don't even know did they drink some before and serve to me. The right way is to open in front of the customers and place it on table.
Be the first to ReplyIf you asked your parents about the restaurant, The Ship
If you asked your parents about the restaurant, The Ship Restaurant and Bar, it might ring a familiar bell to their ears. The Ship restaurant has a long history which goes all the way back to 1977. They have had many articles posted about them - once in the New Paper, twice in the magazine 8 Days, and thrice in The Straits Times from 2007 - 2011. The Ship also received the Successful Entrepreneur award in 2010. We were served cream of carrots and potatoes in the soup. I thought the soup was of some standard, but Tummy Tyrant 2 thought that the soup was average. Tummy Tyrant 2 has dined at The Ship for quite a while right now. The restaurant serves broccoli soup on some days which apparently is far better than that. Now, onto the main courses. We will first begin with the Beef Lagsana.Layers of minced beef with pastry and cheese, topped with a bolognaise sauce and coriander for dressing. My first impression? I really thought that it was going to be quite a good dish. I dipped my fork into the bolognaise sauce before anything, and it was really good. The minced beef which they served was also of some standard. It was cooked well - slightly juicy which blended very well into the dish. I really wished that the dish had a cheesier taste. It was probably meant to cater for the people who would not like cheese as much as the both of us do. Had been there before this and been pretty satisfied but when I went there about 2 months ago and ordered a steak medium rare, got it well done and wasn't seasoned well. The potatoes tasted like nothing and was overcooked. Plus, it was overall over priced for what I got and the quality of the product. Have not been there since not sure if there was a change of management but quality went down.

The old charm of a 90s Western food restaurant is still in the air except for the large number of Filipino working there. The decorations remains looking like a ship.Unfortunately the quality of the food has somewhat degraded. I remembered having a great steak there but this time I was disappointed. The price was also on the high side. May that's why we were like the only table on a weekday dinner. The steak was normal and has the same quality like you get from the western stall in a coffee shop. ย sad.

Located on the Isetan section of NEX, is the Ship, it is a family run restaurant with a long and successful history. The minute you walk in, you sense that you've walked into some kind of old, pirate ship. The decor looks old and rugged, but at the same time, the dining area was clean and pleasant. The table setting was casual and yet rustic. The choice of table cloths and dollies just suggested that we had walked back a few decades in time.Their menus indicate that they have a wide range of western food and even hot plate steak. ย Their weekday lunch menu changes daily, so check out what's on the lunch special before heading down, or if you can choose the day that has the special you want and then enjoy yourself! They have their own signature steak brown sauce. The potato and leek soup was delightful as it was very tasty, and yet no sense of MSG used. There were half slices of potatoes that weren't mushy and were at the bottom of the soup bowl. The iced tea was refreshing and yet not overly sweet. Just right!I loved the crispy skin of this grilled salmon and it wasn't oily. The salmon itself was tasty but paired with the japanese curry sauce. It was over the top for me. It hit the spot! The vegetables were also good and I was too full to finish up the extremely tasty but slightly salty sauteed potatoes. To end off the lunch special, you get a slice of their home made fruit cake. For $17.90++ you definitely get a lot for your money's worth, I was so full and yet content with my meal
Be the first to ReplyAfter dining here a few times, I realized my favorite item
After dining here a few times, I realized my favorite item is still the fried fish bee hoon soup which is usually available for lunch only (served daily). The version here is much richer and better than the flagship original outlet at Shaw Centre. The soup was creamier and the fried fish was hot and crispy. I also tried the fried chicken wings which were also crispy and fresh out of the fryer. The steaks were less impressive. I would categorize their steak as being affordable and served with a big dose of nostalgia, in the likes of Shashlisk and Jack's Place. There are daily lunch specials which include soup of the day, dessert and a drink which also make it quite popular with families, especially on weekends. I found out you can request to swap the dessert of the day with a scoop of ice cream which will be more palatable to children. The service is efficient. The place is bigger than it looks from the outside as there is another dining section which is hidden from view. So do not be put off if it looks like all the tables are taken, there may be more tables available inside. The ventilation is good so you will not smell like your food or smoke after your meals.

If you are yearning for a piece of juicy steak, it used to be The Ship which I would recommend you to go to. But now, I would rather recommend you to Morton's Steakhouse.Anyway, the outlet at Shaw Towers used to do better steaks but since it's closure, I have to settle for the one at NEX.A perfectionist when it comes to steak, I would rate their specialty - The Ship Steak - 4*/5. The steak is done medium rare and served to you on a piping-hot iron pan. Don't fret if you ordered medium, as the waitress will flame your stick. The entire spectacle is amazing to behold - be sure to hold up your napkin and shield your face as you can feel the heat of the flames. Oil splatters and viola, you have a perfectly grilled steak! The portion was rather huge compared to Jack's Place or Char Grilled Bar (coffeeshop stop @ Serangoon Central), so I'm not complaining. However, food aside, the service can be quite poor especially during busy periods. We weren't seated at an obscure corner but the staff seem to scurry around carrying plates of food with their eyes down. They are absolutely not observant to patrons waving their hands madly in the end, trying hard to grab their attention ย - or, are they just acting dumb, I wonder?... Hence, I would give the entire dining experience at NEX 3*/5, sadly. Despite this, I would still patronise the ship, only if to satisfy my beef craving.
Be the first to ReplyYou go inside and it looks like you're in a ship.
It's so kitschy, but it's like a guilty pleasure... how do you not go in?The food on menu is straight out of an early 90s western-food-style diner... think Chinese western food, so you can have a chicken chop, or a steak with mushroom sauce, and meal it up with a tinned soup and a drink.I had a steak, which was... simple. With the mushroom soup that's more flour/thickener than mushroom its really all you can expect from a place like this, and it's a big dose of nostalgia. I'm thinking of ways to throw a party here...
