Melt in your mouth @ Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
When we planned our trip to Singapore, Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice was at the top of our must-visit list. This restaurant is extremely famous among travelers who visit Singapore, being awarded a Michelin star for its Chicken Rice. We were really excited to taste their recipes. Upon arrival at the Maxwell Food Centre, where many restaurants are located, we found a very long line. In our opinion, Tian Tian is the most popular in the food center, judging from the waiting time, which was around 30 minutes or more, while other restaurants had almost no line or very short waits. After tasting the Classic Steamed Chicken Rice, we could understand why it's so popular. The chicken was incredibly tender, almost melting in our mouths. Although the sauce wasn't particularly outstanding, overall, we could say that it was worth the wait for such delicious chicken rice. As a result, we successfully completed our mission to try the famous Michelin-starred chicken rice in Singapore.

Always. Always. Expect a line here. There’s a reason for that and it’s because they make great Hainan chicken rice here. The rice and the chicken are cooked very well. The skin on the chicken is pumpkin and silky.

I don’t understand why this place gets a Michelin star. The rice is good, but not amazing. The chicken is moist but is served cold(I didn’t know this ahead of time). I was not a fan of the cold chicken. They don’t give you enough sauce either. This place doesn’t live up to its reputation. There is a long line to get your food. Find elsewhere!

It is such a highly rated place we wanted to go. It was good. But was it worth that queue? I am not sure. The system in place to get your order is very efficient and it was great, but I am sure some of the other stalls in there must sell Hainanese chicken that is just as good!
Be the first to ReplyGood volume for money. Standard tastes of Hainanese chicken
Good volume for money. Standard tastes of Hainanese chicken (boiled in salted water; served with sweet soy sauce dressing). Not a cozy dinning environment, especially in the tropic weather, but good for you to experience Asian-style food court.
Be the first to ReplyHere's a tip! Go mid-afternoon!
When in Singapore, one must have chicken & rice! But where to go? There are so many options and so many opinions on such a basic dish. It was utterly confusing! Finally decided on Tian Tian at the Maxwell Food Center given its Michelin rating plus I'm a fan of Anthony Bourdain. Fortunately we went early afternoon after the lunch rush and waited no more than 10-15 minutes to order and get our food. The chicken was moist and silky and the rice was very flavorful. I found it quite satisfying! I only wish I had a chance to try chicken rice from another stand for comparison's sake, but there was too much other food to try during my short time in Singapore!

There is a lot of hype to the place but I thought it was a good plate of food. Soft juicy chicken and flavorful rice. Got in line at 1115 on a Tuesday and it took 20 minutes to get the food. The line looked long but moved quickly. I don't know if there is a big difference between good and great chicken rice but this place has been crushing it for years and it ain't all tourist business which tells me it is pretty darn good.
Be the first to ReplyNEVER EVER GO BACK AGAIN
Wanted to eat at Ah Tai 2 stalls away but they were closed as the cook was injured. Tried Tian Tian next door and truly regretted. Attitude of their staff was very poor. Additionally, they don't serve soup, ginger and dark soya sauce. They also refused to give more chili sauce even though my order was SGD35. What kind of Singapore chicken rice store is this? Being a Singaporean, I am ashamed of the overall proposition. VERY SAD INDEED AND NEVER GO BACK.

Their hainanese chicken rice is absolutely great. The chicken and its broth mixed with the rice are great combination.
Be the first to ReplyOver hyped, there’s better experience elsewhere
The food is all right, not super. They seem to be hurrying customers along, so you do not get to customise the sauces you want. Other stalls will allow you to take, in addition to chilli sauce, dark soy sauce and ginger sauce. However here there was only chilli sauce. The service was rather cold. Price of $6 is rather expensive for chicken rice. Can get a better deal elsewhere.

Generous serving of very tasty rice! Sauce is just right for the chicken. Quick service. Good value for money! Presentation is usual hawker style. Overall, this was a very good local Singapore food experience!

The chicken rice IS very good. There is a long line even at off- hours and it isn’t the best atmosphere but worth a visit and it’s iconic status.
Be the first to ReplyNice first experience of having Hainanese Chicken Rice
On this trip to Singapore I wanted to experience the most recommend Hawker Centres. There were eight from an article on AFAR.com. I got to five of them starting with Maxwell Foof Centre where I went to try the recommended Hainanese Chicken Rice. I got there before 11.30am and there was a small queue. However I was served promptly and order the large serving with chilli sauce which cost me $6.50 (Singapore dollars). I was given a number and I waited a few minutes for my order. Once my number was called, I walked to an empty seat to try the chicken rice. It was good, the rice was tasty and the chicken was juicy. It was a satisfying meal given its size. I can see why it was recommended. I enjoyed the taste of my first Hainanese Chicken Rice in Singapore. I caught the North East train to Chinatown MRT station. It's about a 7-10 min walk through the Chinatown street stalls to get there.
Be the first to ReplyPaper plates, plastic fork/spoons, and disorganised queing and food collection
After years of serving great chicken rice in plates with proper fork and spoons, we are now greeted with flimsy paper plates and hard to use plastic spoons and fork. The chicken rice is also lesser now. The queuing was haphazard and food collection was equally disorganised. Maybe time to move to another chicken rice stall.

The original Maxwell food centre is the best for Hainan Chicken Rice . Make sure you go to the this one as we accidentally went to the air con version in Bedok which was a little disorganised . So we had to go again . Suggest you go with half a chicken instead of a smaller set to get the best value and choose which part you like . Chicken is juicy and the secret sauce poured over the chicken is yummy . The rice is so flavoursome. A must try for those hainan chicken rice fans .

yummy Singapore chicken rice at a reasonable price.
the service is ok and the place tend to get crowded during lunch time, go early !
Chicken rice
One of the most famous chicken rice or indeed, hawker stalls in singapore. Made more famous by the likes of gordon ramsay. Anchoring the maxwell hawker centre, it usually sells out by late afternoon. The quality is ok, and the “set meal” is just chicken , nothing much else
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite chicken rice
This is my favorite Hainanese chicken rice in Singapore. The price is not too high, but the quality is quite good. When I visit Singapore I always visit here.
Simple and Satisfying: Chicken Rice
We had 24 hours in Singapore and had to stop here per Anthony Bourdain’s tip. Chicken Rice is a very popular dish in Singapore, they consume it like air and I would too if I lived here! White rice cooked in the chicken bone broth, juicy, tender chicken with the skin on, a light mild sauce, and cucumbers & chile garnish. Simple. Wholesome. Worth the hype. Cheers, Hoody
Be the first to ReplyHainanese Chicken Rice, just above average
Chow Yun Fatt was seen having it. Even Gordon Ramsay and Anthony Bourdain had TV programs with this Michelin Hainanese Chicken Rice. As a Hainanese myself I had tried and love many famed chicken rice all over Singapore. Always put off by the queue due to its fame, wherever I am at Maxwell Food Centre, I never had the chance to try this. Now due to the pandemic, we have no tourists, at 130pm pass lunch hour and only 2 to 3 in queue, finally I have the chance to try this. Menu starts from $3.50, $5 to $7.80. Add ons include $1.50 for a chicken wing, veges sides from $2 to $4. A new dish is the cuttlefish and bean sprouts. Seeing how bloggers been touting how great is their been sprouts, and we hainanese love our cuttlefish, I had a cuttlefish bean sprout $4 (small) to go with my $5 medium size chicken rice. The chap just before me ordered a $3.50 small chicken rice thus I get to compare what is the $1.50 difference. On collecting i get it. Its a $1.50 chicken wing add on. And nope, not a whole chicken wing but only the mid wing bit cut into 2 halves. Somewhat felt short-changed since Hainanese Chicken Rice always come with a clear and light chicken soup. Nope. None of us in line got any soup to go with one by one. Staffs not as arrogant as most written about, just mechancially go about your order, period. Ok star of the show, the apparently fluffy rice. Nope. Sorry. Had better. Not as aromatic as most I loved, and in fact dry and lumpy in some parts. Single portion orders from what i can tell, you will get Chicken Breast, the least loved part of Hainanese chicken. While it is not dry, I wouldn't call it juicy, nor tender. The add on chicken wing is somewhat smoother. Though in all, I had more flavourful ones. They drench a light brown sauce on your chicken is neither sesame oil nor soy sauce or dark sauce based. More like a Western Chicken brown sauce. Nothing Hainanese about that if you ask me. Now to the Bean Sprouts, while it is crunchy, its nothing like what some bloggers had written that the cut chillies pack a punch and aromatic shallots add flavour to crunchy sprouts blah blah. 2 pieces of cut chillies add what punch? Miserable bits of shallots added thats drenched by the same brown sauce. While the sprout dark shells had been picked out the roots had not been trimmed. No one does that extra service anymore I guess. And while springy, unfortunately the cuttlefish were quite tasteless. So in all, I would say a little above average since the chicken breast were not dry. Value at $3.50 since you probably can't get much choices at this price these days but I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back for this Hainanese Chicken Rice and if I had to brave a queue? Hell no. Better Hainanese Chicken Rice elsewhere anyday.
Be the first to ReplyTalk about fresh, tender and juicy chicken meat!
Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice is listed in just about every guidebook of Singapore. Even Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay rave about how flavoursome their chicken rice is! Talk about fresh, tender and juicy chicken meat served with spicy chili sauce, minced ginger and piping hot rice… need I say more? Just Yum!
Be the first to ReplyVery poor attitude
Very poor attitude from staff. Totally no manners. Please do not be in the F&B Industry if you do not have the desire to engage your customer properly. Had a very bad lunch experience here. Told my orders to the cashier and I hear her conveyed it properly to the food handler. Came out that the order was wrong. The food handler blamed me immediately why I did not say the order early. The cashier then acknowledged that the order was wrong. But the food handler began to start scolding why I made a big fuss. This is totally uncalled for. Throughout the incident, there was absolutely no desire to apologise or be sorry for.
Why bother to eat there and be subject to their abuse? I will not patronise them again.
Great affordable meal
I'd heard the queues were bad but as it was already late afternoon we found the place empty and had our chicken within minutes. The chicken was so tender and juicy and we really enjoyed the dish, plus it was definitely one of the most affordable meals I had in Singapore.
