Well Deserved Place on Chicagos Top 50
A touch out of the way but well worth the trip. Great Service and great decor. A small (which we prefer) but interesting and unique menu. All our meals were flavorful and perfectly prepared. Found something different for all 4 of us including two kids. Steak Tartar, a very innovative rolled pork belly and two pastas. Decor was modern and chic with good music but not not loud. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Price was very reasonable bordering on underpriced!! Entrees $25-$30. A thoroughly enjoyable night out and worth the drive in from the burbs.
Be the first to ReplySome good, some bad
We went to the Tied House for dinner last weekend because we were going to see a band at Shaub's Tavern (next door) later on. It is a nicely decorated, bright and airy ambiance, and we had a really great waitress, but we chose the pork belly for two, and that was a real mistake. It might be O.K. for people who like to eat fat, but I have a real aversion to fat, and it was impossible for me to eat. My husband made a valiant attempt to tease out some meat from the fat, but really, it was mostly just fat. Maybe their other dishes are good; I couldn't say.
Be the first to ReplyPrepared to be ignored
We wanted to love this place, as a quality dining option in our neighborhood. Instead, we spent most of two hours being ignored by out waitperson, the manager, the water person. Our waiter disappeared for more than 30 minutes between the time our apps were cleared and we finally saw her again to ask about our dinner. She โinvestigatedโ and advised they were busy and she didnโt notice that it was over 30 minutes between the time she fired our entries until the kitchen even started. We sat in our chairs watching other tables get bread course, apps and dinners before us even though they arrived much later. Donโt sit towards the back of the restaurant - apparently you are either in stealth mode or purgatory. Manager, who was observed visiting other tables repeatedly, never bothered to see us until well after we had tried to find our dinner 40+ minutes after we last saw our waiter. Halliburton was barely warm when it finally applied, ok but nothing close to the wait or price. Tomato app was barely one mid size tomato sliced, rabbit main ok but nothing we would get again.
For the price, take a car downtown and eat at a real restaurant where service is professional.
Overpriced, tasteless food
Four of us had dinner here and left pretty disappointed.
I had the "steak" that came already sliced. It was cold and was served over polenta cakes. The polenta cakes tasted nothing like polenta and didn't have ANY salt...it was pretty tasteless.
The lack of taste (seasoning or salt) was also mentioned by the other 3 people at the table who had the grilled octopus and the chicken.
Portions were very small. The appetizer were also very small and blah! The tomato appetizer was a joke!
We have no intentions to return to this restaurant.
Kid friendly on Tuesdays
They have a really good deal on Tuesday nights. Kids under 10 eat free and adults can get a burger, fries and a Schlitz for $13. I went there with my 3 kids and our bill was only $28 even after I added some rolls and ice cream.
Thank you so much for offering a family friendly and affordable dinner experience!
Party of 10? Saturday night? Total Success!
We had a family get together here last Saturday with family in town from Paris and various parts of the US. First they could accommodate our party of 10 at 715 and we were seated right on time. Waitress said the octopus was the best item on the menu. I never would have ordered that but I did and it was AWESOME. One son had the ahi tuna. He wished it had been a larger portion. My daughter had gnocchi but didnโt like it. Sheโs my most finicky eater. One other family member had the octopus and raves about it as well. This restaurant was a complete delight!
Be the first to ReplyCool Space; Average Food Overall
We met another couple for dinner here, happy to see a new option in the Southport neighborhood. Overall, I'd say the meal was "3.5/5," but since TripAdvisor doesn't have half-star options, 3 it is.
On the plus side:
--Decor. It's a really well-decorated space, with excellent core design and thoughtful furnishings and accessories. A good bit of history is tied into the design of the space; read online about what a 'tied house' is and look for the symbols of the mother brewery throughout the building.
--Bread! The basket of breads was delicious--especially the Parker House rolls--and the options to accompany them were well-worth the calories, especially the creme fraiche honey comb and the green tomato marmalade.
--Braised short rib. Really flavorful and fall-off-the-bone in exactly the way a short rib should be.
That said: among multiple appetizers and main dishes ordered, the rest of the food was purely average, particularly for Chicago standards. Although beautifully presented, there were several issues with either flavor or cookery. In general, appetizers were better than main dishes. A beet salad needed acid. Chicken was tough and approached rubbery. A duck breast was overcooked. Also, the list of mains was not particularly vegetarian friendly; the pasta option was very heavy.
Service was okay--not bad, not remarkable. Knowledge of wines and cocktails could have been better, given the price point.
Overall, a nice enough evening out and a good addition to a neighborhood that needed some nicer dining options, but not a restaurant that stands-up especially well to Chicago's many excellent options at this price point, and not a place I'd go rushing back to experience again.
Excellent new restaurant
Beautiful decor, wonderfully creative dishes, well proportioned, and moderately priced. What else could one ask for?
Be the first to ReplyGreat Brunch
We recently had a decent-sized family brunch here on a Sunday morning, and I was afraid it was going to be packed, but we basically had the place to ourselves, which was great. The service was excellent and the place was not too noisy. I was surprised to find that they didn't have valet parking, but we did manage to get a spot right out front (only one Divvy bike was harmed).
I went in eyeing the Smoked Salmon patter and that's exactly what I got and I was even happier when they told me I could get it was a plain bagel instead of an everything bagel. The salmon was good quality, just wish there had been more of it. We also got a couple of orders of beignets, which were delightful. Others got the Biscuits & Gravy, the Dutch-style Pancake and the Short Rib Hash and no one had any complaints. We also found out you can get the Breakfast Ramen gluten-free!
All-in-all a lovely meal.
A little too snobby!
The food was just average and the service too snobby for my taste. Nice ambiance, but not too friendly.
