TORC Napa Reviews

I've eaten at plenty of restaurants in Napa, and I kinda feel that Torc is pretty underrated. They serve consistently great food that's as enjoyable as just about any other great restaurant in Napa. One of the great things about this place is the Bubble Baller Flight. It's a flight of 4 great champagnes: Cristal, Dom, Krug, and Ruinart. I've done it a couple times and each time the glasses were fully effervescent. No flat glasses. It comes with a baller price tag, but it's not often you get to have a tasting of such fine champagnes. For me, the pasta is the star here; though, really, all their food is good. And they do like their truffles here. Here's what I tried on my last outing: - Bengali sweet potato pakora with yogurt-truffle dip: these were a tasty little starter. Little potato balls with a unique tasting dip. They do give you way more dip than is necessary, but I'll get these again next time as they were good and a relative bargain on the menu. - tempura squash blossoms with yuzu dip and shichimi-togarashi: good fried squash blossom dish. They're not filled; rather they have the dip to go with them. These are also tasty but were a little redundant since we got the pakora dish. - radiatori with pomodoro, heirloom tomato, Parmesan, and truffle: yum. You just can't go wrong with the pasta here. They rich and tasty. Portions aren't huge but since they are a bit heavy, you probably wouldn't want a much larger serving. - diver scallops: I forget what all the other sauces and accoutrements were with this dish, but these were just great seared scallops with an amazing sauce to match.
Just average food.
Service and ambience good. Price was a little high. Was not packed vl like most Napa eateries.
Another bday celebration at Torc.
Almost tempted to try a new bday dinner place but glad I did not! As always... superb ! 1. Heirloom Tomato Salad 2. Tempura Squash Blossoms ( always a classic here ... way before other retaurants ) 3. Tortelli with mushrooms and heirloom tomatoes ( yum) 4. Chocolate dessert Everything intentional about each culinary choice. Chef O'Toole is always on site and deeply cares about his art. Still chooses everything that goes into all his dishes early every morning not letting a single thing go to chance! I will never forget his words "My magic is nothing more than a love of food and the Art of Food but at the end of the day I just want a good hot dog... if I get one it's a good day" And when asked if he dreams about his next culinary creation or iteration he says " nope, I mostly dream of chopping onions" Such a humble soul ... Wish he would win more awards... He deserves it

Ambiance and service were great! Food was good, with the our table standouts being the sweet potato appetizer, corn soup and the duck entree. Overall, while the food was good, I felt the prices to be expensive and no options where I could identify every part of the description. I think my takeaway is that while I can appreciate the quality, I know that this isn't the restaurant for me.
Seems incredibly pretentious that the restaurant sells
Seems incredibly pretentious that the restaurant sells french fries but doesn't have any ketchup in the restaurant. Instead they provide you with "their version" of ketchup which is awful. Stop overthinking it and just have some Heinz in the back, or take the stuff that traditionally comes with ketchup off the menu.
Wonderful waitstaff, all very kind and considerate.
Decor is fantastic and the food was amazing. We enjoyed everything we had and highly recommend!

The food was amazing! We ordered the jamon iberico, deviled eggs version of green eggs and ham, and the days special Ribeye. The way we're all delicious! Of course we took the Ribeye leftovers home and cooked it up the next day for steak and eggs breakfast. The service was quick and attentive. The seating was spaced out nicely so people didn't feel cramped. We did sit in the corner by the window and it was pretty cold with the AC blowing directly at us. Even for a summer warm day out, we were freezing in that corner. Next time I'll bring a sweater for sure!

I have always wanted to try Torc but could not get a reservation. Last Friday, my husband and I walked in and ready to just sit at the bar. Luckily, it was still early and was able to enjoy our dinner upstairs. We started with deviled eggs and hamachi tartare and both were absolutely delicious. My main course of short rib was amazing. It was very tender and flavorful. The scallops were also good. To top off dinner, we opted for the carrot cake! Service is wonderful. Our server was very attentive and made good suggestions for food options. I will be back!

Wow, what a great dining experience! We were in Napa and chose this spot based on reviews and ease of getting a reservation, and it did not disappoint. Everything was outstanding, including the personable and attentive service. The tomato salad and pork chop were standouts -- both very fresh with unique flavors. I wasn't overly hungry, so I opted for the corn soup, which was flavorful, and we shared a side of fries that were perfectly crispy with a tasty mayo-based dipping sauce. They asked if we were celebrating anything, and when we mentioned our anniversary, they surprised us with a complimentary coconut lime sorbet. Very thoughtful and while not something I'd choose myself was delicious. Highly recommend.
A Memorable Dining Experience!
We enjoyed one of the best dining experiences of our lives tonight at Torc in Napa, CA! The service was incredible with a host of people taking care of our every need. Management and Staff came by to ensure we had everything we needed. They shared information about the sourcing of the vegetables and the short ribs and answered questions about the preparation. The wine selection is superb. Our wait staff was knowledgeable and helpful as we decided between choices. Everyone was kind, professional, attentive and considerate. We cannot wait to come back! It is a 2.5 hour trip from home, but nothing back home compares to our experience tonight.

We absolutely love TORC!! High quality food with fair prices. The service is always phenomenal & very personable. Any chance my husband & I can get out to Napa, this is where we will always go.
Entirely unpleasant with endless upselling. No one needs a $135 chicken dish.
I will poke my eyes out before going back to this place. The aggressive upsell for steaks and a $135 CHICKEN dish -- server said twice, "buy champagne!!" The disdain for our choice of a mid-range bottle of wine -- "oh, she said. "are you sure?? We have a lot of nicer choices". The server interrupted our conversation more than a dozen times. Just burst in. It was an exhausting place to be. Before our dinners were done, they were trying to whisk away the dishes (had ben at the table for 45 minutes) all of it was upsell and hurry, hurry. Spend money and get going!! Don't talk to each other! BUY more!! Four of us ordered a number of appetizers to start, including a tuna tartare...but only three crackers unless you want to pay for another cracker! $9 for bread! Server checked in three times to be sure we didn't want to add truffles to anything -- for only $50. The food? I don't remember at all, brown pasta, green pasta and a lot of fried things.
Great Food, Poor Experience.
For a place that charges these kinds of prices, you would expect the experience to rival the food quality. Alas, that was not the case with us as we suffered from pretty spotty service. We had made a reservation for 7:15pm and were greeted and seated promptly, although the table we were given was probably the worst in the restaurant, right next to the kitchen. After waiting about 10 minutes I finally flagged down a server to take our drink orders. We did order our appetizers, which were delicious, but really didn't like our table. They did manage to reseat us, but after getting a much better table, it took another 10-15 minutes to get someone to take our order. The food again was excellent, but after we finished and were given dessert menus, the server never came back and after about 20 minutes of waiting we gave up and just asked for the check. The manager apologized but made no effort to recompense us in any way, and we were even charged for the extra olives my wife asked for for her dirty martini! The poor service and the really awful music they were playing means we will certainly give this place a miss and advise our friends to avoid this restaurant in the future.
After you Hit whole foods, you can probably appreciate it moe- for PROS.
Quite good-not worth the money(im a chef). Get a good cookbook, grill and BBQ, then go. I you must go and just get drinks, not the prix fix.
Worst meal/ experience I've had at a restaurant in years
Biggest disappointment of our brief visit to Napa with our daughter and chef son-in-law from Wisconsin. The place was physically cold and uninviting from the moment we walked in. 3 of the 4 meals were awful with an undercooked chicken special for 2 and a pasta dish that unexpectedly had squid ink in it (my husband totally dislikes it and would not have ordered if he'd known). The soft shell crab ordered by our son-in-law was lovely. The appetizers were below average and we think it's unthinkable to charge people for 2 orders of bread when each order has only 4 pieces. The waitress did not tell us we'd have a 50 minute wait for the chicken until after we ordered. When we complained about the chicken being undercooked the manager - NOT the chef told us they had cooked it to 120 degrees and when our chef told him chicken should never be less than 140, he argued with us saying it would reach that temperature while resting. Their only offer to make things right was to take the chicken dish off the check. It was inedible! They claim they are not expensive and have a warm welcoming atmosphere. That was not our experience.
Excellent food and drinks, good service, gluten-free no problem
Nice spot, lots of room between tables, so not too loud. Great cocktail, shared the grilled cheese and truffle and had paccheri. Fantastic with a bottle of Vermentino. Drank my dessert. No problem with gluten-free for our celiac member.

We dined at TORC last weekend before heading to a concert, and it was a wonderful experience. The tomato tart we tried was absolutely amazing. I ordered the mushroom risotto, which was rich and flavorful. The restaurant has a nice rustic atmosphere that made our meal even more enjoyable.
Good but pricy wine list.
We enjoyed a few shared plates and fish and steak entrees. One appetizer had a sauce that was so burningly spicy I could barely eat it (but I worked around it- lol). Seemed to be an anomaly because all other flavors were delicious and balanced. Service was great at first, then we sat talking over dirty plates for almost half an hour. If you go, try several plates to share- you'll get a nice range of flavor, texture, and eye-pleasing goodness.
Came here for dinner with a friend.
Had never been there before, although I had walked by for many years. What a wonderful experience in terms of the food service the ambience and the overall experience of being there. We started with a couple of appetisers which included the Tartare and the salad. Both were beautifully refreshing and a great way to start dinner. We had brought some of our own wine and we started with a southern France blend - great wine pairing. We then moved onto the intermediate meal, which was the risotto special of the day. I'm not a big risotto fan, but I love the way that they cooked the risotto and the texture. Very well worthwhile dish. Entree was the 60 day Porterhouse cooked to perfection. Medium rare large size New York strip and fillet sides very well prepared and very gamy. The wine for dinner was appropriate Napa cab 2007 and worked exceptionally well with C gaminess of the steak. wonderful combination We continued. We continued with a, couple of desserts and as I'm not a dessert fan that's not something I can comment on although the Panacota was enjoyed. After dinner drinks included port tawny I highly recommend this place.

Torc is overall good, and has the potential to be great if they can improve their service. Most of the food was delicious-short rib, pasta, squash blossoms, ice cream. But some fell flat- like the snickerdoodle cookie lacked flavor. Also nothing that we received was hot, just warm. They all split their tips so no one went above and beyond and the service was slow. When we ordered drinks at the bar before dinner the bartender wasn't even listening to us. He had to ask us twice what we wanted. What was most disappointing is when we received an espresso martini that was bitter and had no sweetener in it. We told the server who said, "you don't have to drink it" and then charged us for it. The sommelier was good too, but disappeared and never came back after we started with glasses of wine rather than ordering an expensive bottle of wine. Overall a good experience, but I wish the service matched the food quality.
I was told that this place serves "Napa" food by a local
I was told that this place serves "Napa" food by a local friend. I interpreted that to mean farm to table, elevated dishes at an elevated price... and I wasn't wrong on that. The menu is full of unique dishes, many of whose ingredients I needed to google. Lol! The drink menu is several pages long so you'll have plenty to choose from. I wasn't drinking ETOH tonight since I was solo and get buzzed too easily. After waiting over 15 minutes for a server to come to the table to take my order, I was just about to leave. There were many many servers working the floor and there were a lot of empty tables so it's not like they look short staffed to me. I don't know if people just assume someone else was going to take my table and I'm a pretty patient person but I was seriously about to get up and walk out and until a waitress came over. I mentioned to her that I was about to leave because it had been at least 15 minutes. But I decided to give this restaurant a a chance, but this is the reason I'm only giving it 4 stars. I did enjoy the Sweet Potato Pakoras... that yogurt dipping sauce was the perfect accompaniment. They weren't overly fried and the seasonings were very nice. For my entree, I went with the Rigatonicini and really enjoyed the fresh crisp sugar snap peas, lightly creamy sauce and surprisingly sweet beef ragu. It was the perfect amount of food. The taste of the food is a 5 star , being ignored for 15 mins is a 3 star thus an overall 4 star review.

Food is fabulous, drinks are delicious, atmosphere is cool, and the owner is usually there making sure everything is great. I'm sure it would be whether he was or not...staff is special, attentive, clearly foodies who appreciate other foodies. Love this place!

The food was incredible and everyone working there seemed genuinely invested in making the entire experience enjoyable. We sat on the second floor overlooking the entire restaurant which was nice because it was out of the way but could see over the entire place. Can't wait to visit again!
Loved it! The food- good quality, very tasty.
The service- excellent. The ambiance- just right. Hubby and I went here for the first time for a quick bite right before they closed on our anniversary. Although we were their last customers, they were so gracious! We had the grilled cheese, the favio bean risotto, and soft crab dish. All came out hot and prepared well, very tasty and worth every penny. Keep in mind plate portions are pretty small, so plan accordingly. For dessert, carrot cake and a chocolate ice cream. They also brought out a raspberry sherbet for our anniversary. Very nice. Everyone was warm and professional. We made an online reservation and they called us to confirm beforehand. The host and waitress were perfect. The gentleman pouring our drinks and clearing our table was pleasant. The place was clean and music was at a nice level. Parking directly across the street was easy. Theres a bar downstairs and more seating upstairs, so there are options. Overall I really liked it, I'd go again. Again, the only thing you'd have to be concerned with is portion size, and that's just a personal preference thing, right? If you're looking for Hungry Man portions, this ain't it. Otherwise, this is a really nice place! The price- I was pleasantly surprised- the entire experience would cost double in the Bay Area. I'd recommend you try it out.

This was my first time eating a Torch and I will definitely be going back. We started with the Truffle Grilled Cheese. While on the pricier side, it was delicious! We also had the Hamachi Tartare and the Beef Short Ribs, which were very good. The flavor combinations were just right. The restaurant is nice on the inside and has a great atmosphere. Overall the service was good and the staff were friendly.
This place is very, very loud.
I haven't finished my meal and I want to get up and leave. The food is good. It is too loud to talk to my date, who got up to go outside for a break from the noise. The service is slow. Or perhaps it only seems that way because I can't talk to my date because it is so loud in here. The prices are reasonable at $100 per person for a nice evening of fine dining. If only it wasn't so loud in here, I could enjoy my evening of fine dining.

Came here for dinner but ended up having to leave pretty abruptly bc my sister wasn't feeling well from all the wine tasting earlier in the day (not from the food). I did very much enjoy the little wedge salad, which was incredibly fresh and light. The cod wasn't bad either, though very heavy on the butter. If my sister had been feeling better, would've totally gotten the large Dungeness crab! They have a couple other large format options also (that night they had an 8 lb lobster and a large steak option I am forgetting at the moment).
They have some really tasty and uniquely flavorful
They have some really tasty and uniquely flavorful vegetarian options. I particularly enjoyed the mushroom bolognese pasta & the morel mushrooms. The creamy basmati rice was also yum! On top of this, the service was excellent. I haven't come across such competent and attentive staff in a long while. We had a lovely time.

Has potential, but missed the mark.
The hamachi tartare was easily the highlight of the night, and a really standout dish. It had the perfect combination of flavor and texture. The scallops were also good. The prices are higher than many Michelin star restaurants though, and unfortunately, a lot of the other dishes left quite a bit to be desired. Pasta was overcooked, morel/goat cheese side was a miss, and the salad was also disappointing.
Good dining spot for Napa proper
Had dinner on a Saturday night before the Superbowl and before Valentine's Day. The restaurant was full and downtown Napa was busy with lots of people out and about. Our experience at Torc began with our busboy asking where we were from and when we told him, he said, "What are you doing here? The food in your area is so much better." We informed him we decided to try something different and have dinner in Napa. We had a good meal. My husband and I shared the beet salad, and our mains were the broccoli romanesco risotto and the fiorentini with Maine lobster. We were so full, we didn't have room for dessert. The food was well-prepared and the service was good. Did we think it was as good as restaurants in upper Napa Valley? No, but we'd go back to Torc if we were to have a meal or drinks and appetizers in Napa. (There's also a full bar.) Want to learn more about wineries and restaurants in Napa Valley and beyond? Disappointing.
The flavors were overpowering for the palate. No dish was memorable. Chairs were uncomfortable. Very stylish place and yet the food was a flop for us. Staff was friendly, but, got our hopes up with the hype of the home made this and that, which was not as expected. Dishes were too spicy and the flavors were conflicting. Will not go back.
Service was great.
Silverware was changed very often. Food was cooked just right. Added truffle to the pasta dish. Paired well.
valentines week! Zoe our waitress made this dinner date
valentines week! Zoe our waitress made this dinner date special because of her love and passion for wine, culinary arts and customers. Clients remember her and come back to see her! Food is always stellar here! Detailed. Professional. Attentive. high quality ingredients; ever changing seasonal menu; a very involved chef O' toole who will not let a detail go unmissed... Not even a sprig of mint or a tiny micro ringlet of onion. Love love love Torc

We celebrated valentines day last weekend by having the most amazing steak dinner for two. But first my wife had a life changing gin martini. When we got home my wife realized she had left a wine bag at our table. She called and spoke with the Manager Scott. Scott let her know he has our bag and offered to drop it off on his way home since he lived in the same area. And, He Did! What can you say other than, "Thank You" & we will be back.
A restaurant worthy of consideration
My daughter picked the restaurant out as it was highly regarded. We were not disappointed. We had just arrived in Napa. I had the crab cake which was superb. I believe the soup as well. The bar was well stocked and they were able to make a great craft cocktail for daughter. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff outstanding. I would return in a heartbeat. I thought the pricing was reasonable considering Napa.

Was not so sure this was a place I wanted to go in Napa, but between the service, the food and the wine, they won me over. Had the tempura, the tuna and some excellent wine that made for a lovely evening.
Blow your mind
Well as a picky eater the menu was very intricate. Then they had family dining with steaks for 4 or a whole chicken and fries for 4. The table out voted me and we ate the chicken. WOW, soft and moist - with the chicken fat rendered on the fries. Perfect! The salad was interesting with pickles and the two deserts…….blew my mind. Limy with strawberries, I would have never ordered it but it was great- and the strawberry cheesecake desert- again mind blowing! Just make your reservation well in advance!
Best food in Napa
This is by far the best food we ate while in Napa! The food is thoughtfully prepared, complimented by incredible craft cocktails. The Old Fashioned was the best I ever tasted! Bravo to the whole staff!
Torqued off at TORC
What a disappointment this restaurant turned out to be for us. We saw the great reviews and the menu looked awesome, so we booked it for our anniversary dinner while visiting Napa. We were disappointed from start to finish. Our server took a very long time to come to our table, for which she apologized. Our reaction was -- ok, she got tied up somewhere, no big deal. She took a drink and appetizer order and vanished. Our appetizer arrived and no drinks were to be found. The appetizer we ordered was the white truffle crostini with burrata for $39. What arrived was two 1-bite pieces of toast with some dried truffles. Maybe the buratta was lightly spread on the cracker, but honestly not sure and couldn't taste it. We each had our bite. I had to flag down someone to ask what happened to our drinks. Server arrived a second later with them and without apology. She took our dinner and wine order and again, evaporated. Mains came, no wine. We had to again ask someone where our wine went and it again appeared a few moments later. Mains were both pasta and average in taste, presentation and creativity. If I'm going to pay $40 for vegetarian pasta, I want it to be delicious and memorable. Sadly it was neither. We love dining out and are happy to pay for a great meal. We serious object, to being overcharged for mediocre food and worse service. At this point, our anniversary dinner was a bust and we just wanted to leave. Our server knew she had done us a disservice in her tending to our table and just couldn't have cared less. Atmosphere was trying for industrial chic and came off as crowded and cold. Huge miss for us on all fronts and we'd give it a hard pass if we're ever back in the area.
Seasonal menu….tiramisu…not tiramisu
Food was delicious, great music & service. The only thing we would of liked would have been a larger menu selection. Very much organic, seasonal menu. Best tiramisu we’ve ever had, no coffee flavor, pistachios & strawberries.
Beware!
Charged $25 a person when we needed to cancel due to getting into town later than planned . Tried to rebook but they are closed Sunday and Monday, but we were leaving town Tuesday. Just so inflexible and a huge turn off!!
Insulting experience. Not worth the drive or high menu prices
My husband and I drove 1.5 hours to come to Torc for dinner. We are vegetarian and like the seasonal menu. During our last visit, we gifted the chef (Sean) with a wine bottle as appreciation of the food. Yesterday the restaurant was not very busy and we asked our waiter to say hello to Chef Sean and ask for his recommendations of current vegetarian offerings. Although Sean looked our way several times, he never came over. It felt purposeful and rude. Overall the experience left us feeling insulted and was a wasted evening. Given the high menu prices (at Torc) and multitude of restaurant choices in Napa, we will not be returning.

Service is horrible, asked waiter for a bill and he started pouring other costumers drinks and taking photos. Ignored us for 20 minutes then gladly took our bill once another waitress paid for us. Food was mediocre.
Long overdue review on one of my favorites restaurants in
Long overdue review on one of my favorites restaurants in Napa. The ambiance is great and the food is amazingly great. Every time we come here we enjoy our meals. Different menu, different creations. Prices are on the higher side but that's what you pay for good quality food now-days. Overall a great locationgreat service great food great ambiance
So the inside and the ambiance was great.
Came here for a friends birthday and she did state that she's only came here and had drinks and appetizers. The appetizers were good , the truffle crostini had wayyy to much truffle on it , but my friends liked it. The only thing I liked were the fries and the mayo . For dinner my friends got the fettuccine and I got the duck breast and my other friend got the steak dinner for two. All of us were disappointed no one finished their food and will not be back. I had to send my duck back , the service was very good but for the prices that they are asking I will not be back for dinner. We paid $650 for dinner and tipped $200 for the service but we were not satisfied.
Overrated.
Interior ascetic doesn't fit the menu. The menu descriptions do not accurately depict the meal and we listened to horrible 80s music the whole evening. The $46 grilled cheese is just insulting and why I'm writing this review. Never again.
Delicious food, amazing service by Maria, great wine
Delicious food, amazing service by Maria, great wine pairing! I was there for pre-fixed truffle seasonal menu and was happy they accommodate me with my dietary restrictions. We dined with a 7 year old and he enjoyed his food from kids menu as well. The place is beautiful , quiet, romantic. Highly recommend!
The restaurant itself is a cool atmosphere.
We were a bit early for our reservation so we grabbed a drink at the bar. The cocktails were great and the bartenders were very knowledgeable. I had the L.L. Green which is one of their gin cocktails and I found it to be very refreshing and well balanced. Our dinner left us somewhat disappointed. We started with the truffle crostini which had a ton of truffle. If you are a truffle fan, you'll definitely enjoy this appetizer. For entree's I had the scallops which were good but nothing special. He had the filet which he said was over cooked and under seasoned. He asked for medium rare but felt his cook was medium and felt it really needed more salt or seasoning of any type. We were super hungry from travelling all day and just wanted to eat so we didn't bother sending it back to be have the cook corrected. The staff was all very friendly, but the food left us wishing we were more satisfied considering this is not a cheap restaurant. We agree we would return for a drink and maybe an app, but not another dinner.
