Early Saturday dinner
Service was awesome. No fault with the staff. Tables are small crowded and noisy. This is a Bestia type of crowd and I don’t understand why people like/tolerate it. The food is good. Not outstanding. In my opinion, Factory Kitchen or Rossoblu is better and worth the reservation wait. Shouting to hear over the conversation of my neighboring table is uncomfortable. Sorry I couldn’t give this a better review honestly.

We were staying in the Sheraton, and this restaurant is about a 10 minute walk. We called, and they could get us in. It is a small restaurant with outside seating. We said that we wanted a quiet table, as we had been to a family funeral and just needed to catch our breath. The hostess couldn't have been nicer and found us a quiet table outside. The food was excellent, we split an appetizer, salad an entree and dessert. Everything was delicious. Also a great bottle of wine!

A beautiful evening with a scrumptious meal. Four for dinner. We had the arugula salad which is large enough to share. Lamb, spaghetti with pork meatballs, and duck were our choices. Everything was done right. A bottle or two of a French pinot noir complemented our meal. Service was terrific. We never felt rushed. Will return.

Fresh ingredients and great service makes this place a must if you’re visiting Pasadena. We had the bread board, a simply but tasty salad and split the spaghetti…loved all of it.

We stumbled into this eatery without a reservation so we sat at the bar where the bartendress was friendly and accommodating. The food was wonderful but please replace those napkins that left white lint all over my black sweater!

We went to Union with a party of four and asked that all four appetizers be served together, and then that all four main courses be served together. We were told, however, that this is simply not possible at Union, despite the hefty price tag!
The four appetizers appeared, one after another, over the course of an hour or so. The same thing then happened with the main courses. The result was that one person would eat while the other three watched. In effect, we had a two hour, eight course tasting menu
where each person ate two of the eight courses.
I, for one, do not care for eight course tasting menus, even when I get to eat all eight courses. This "two out of eight" system left me puzzled. How hard is it to serve four appetizers orders together when a customer requests that?
If you want to share plates, go to Union - the food is certainly good. However, if you want what most people think of as a conventional two course dinner plus dessert, find someplace else.
Fabulous Meal
We enjoyed a great bottle of wine and a fabulous meal. The service was excellent. The menu is family style and everything is meant to be shared. The food delivery was spaced out well. We finished the meal with a great dessert. Our reservation was for the patio but we asked to eat inside since it was a bit chilly outside and we were accommodated. Recommend this restaurant for a great meal with fantastic service.

Four of us had a family and friends leisurely dinner. Professional and pleasant staff seated us at our reservation time. We sat outdoors and were comfortable. We did family style as recommended by our server. We had the endive salad and wild mushroom appetizers. Very good. The sea bass was well prepared and very very tasty. We shared the spaghetti with meatballs , squid ink lobster paste and the Cache de Peppi. All delicious. We ordered a bit too much so no room for dessert. A very very good dinner experience. We will be back

Hey, the food is good. It’s a nice place, but the staff seem to have been trained in extra arrogance and indifference to customers. Tried to have a reasonable conversation about food preferences and sensitivities to be faced with total disdain by both wait staff and manager. We weren’t asking for anything special. We were asking if they could do gluten free and if they felt they might have gluten free options in the future (given they do no gluten free pasta). They reacted like we called their baby ugly. No one was angry, no one was demanding, no one was unreasonable but the response was dismissive and insulting. These guys need better leadership.

What a great local Italian place. They make everything on site: Pasta, bread, cheese, etc. Very creative dishes with loads of flavor. It was a great place to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Looking forward to coming back and trying more items on the menu as well as trying U Street Pizza next door.

We have done takeout from Union a few times now and it continues to stand out as some of Pasadena’s best. Tonight we had the black truffle pasta. It was one of those dishes where each bite makes you close your eyes to savor how delicious it is. . We also like the simplicity of the arugula salad and love the mushroom appetizer. I usually get the fish of the day which is reliably good. Union continues to stand out as a special treat which is becoming a regular for us.

Came to Union with 5 of my adult children to celebrate one of my daughter's 21st birthday. COVID had us sitting on the street. I appreciate the awkwardness of it all, but the restaurant certainly isn't trying very hard to add any ambience. Light level is low and not even a candle on the table.
Service is adequate if a bit spotty. Description of the dishes were sometimes thorough, sometimes missing altogether. Also, I had made a reservation and noted it was a birthday. No mention of it at all. A small detail, but I have been at restaurants that have paid that much attention. Also, the suggestion that the dishes should be eaten family style is awkward give the normal portion size. It seems more like an excuse for the kitchen not to have to time the meal. It really doesn't work, at least not with a party of 6.
In the end Union is all about the food, which was outstanding. The squid ink pasta was pretty sublime. Honestly, all of it was first rate. The only criticism was the rabbit was a bit overdone.
I'd be happy to go back for the food, but wouldn't for a special occasion.
Birthday dinner for two
Had an early dinner for two on a week night. Wonderful Italian cuisine with California twist. House made bread and butter, great service and friendly, casual atmosphere. Squid ink pasta with lobster and fennel, endive salad, sea bass with cucumber, all shared dishes. Add Prosecco and olive oil cake: perfect! We’ll be back!

Very healthy and delicious salads and pastas were the perfect end to a busy day of sightseeing. The atmosphere is busy but relaxed, a very old school feel. We will definitely make time to visit again on our next visit to Southern California!
