My husband and I dine on a weekly basis in many upscale
My husband and I dine on a weekly basis in many upscale restaurants in Los Angeles and never had such a poor experience. We made a reservation agreeing to a $600 set menu and noted that we don't eat shell fish. In my worse dreams I never imagined to be served the same first and second course with out a substitute for the main part of the dish. Even our waiter was shocked. Basically we were served six tiny pieces of asparagus for the first course and raw pickled onions for the second. We were both shocked. As for main course we were told we cant have the fish because of the shell fish included couldn't be changed. I am not sure why did your restaurant even accept our reservation. It would have been so much better had we were told that you can't accommodate the shellfish restriction. We would have gladly booked a different experience. Please understand we aren't looking for a refund. I am looking for an understanding why the Hotel Bel Air chose to ruin our Valentines.
Be the first to Reply*** It seems like this spot gets a bad rap.
*** Its current below 4-star rating is absurd imo. Guests are affable, friendly, some celebrities. Staff is genteel, attentive and quite pleasant. Ambiance is bright, airy & quite comfortable. So as far as service goes definitely ... 5-stars Smoked salmon benedict on point ... 5-stars Blueberry pancakes were superb ... 5-stars Espresso and french press coffee ... 4-stars I fail to see why many yelpers hating on this. It would seem that it is mostly due to prices? Sure, it is pricey here... hello, this is in Bel Air. The typical breakfast entree costs ~$40 here. If that's not to your liking then just do not go. *** Otherwise it's a great spot for brunch. ***
Be the first to Reply5 stars for the ambiance hence why we chose this place to
5 stars for the ambiance hence why we chose this place to discuss luxury realestate however very average below with the mussels we ordered. 3.5 for the service. 2 for the food which was a disappointment. The bread was $18 and fresh The Diet Coke was $9 a bottle so my expectations were a bit high not to mention the $20 parking fee with a validation. Very high ticketed lunch meeting. Our salad had more flavor than the main dish and the presentation was beautiful. Much to my disappointment the mussels were in a very bland sauce. I could smell the aroma of the saffron but I wasn't getting any flavor from the sauce. Very watered down. They didn't have spoons and took away my fork much too soon without giving me new utensils from taking away the salad. I am sorry but I was disappointed and expected a lot more since I was entertaining a client.
Be the first to ReplyToday, my family and I dined at the restaurant at Hotel
Today, my family and I dined at the restaurant at Hotel Bel-Air for the first time. Let's begin with the customer service. Our first impression was positive as we were warmly greeted upon arrival and given the option of sitting inside or outside, which we appreciated. While the food was good, it didn't quite reach the level of spectacular. I ordered the black truffle pasta, which I found to be a bit too buttery and in need of more flavor. On the other hand, the cucumber drink with tequila was absolutely amazing and I can understand why it's a specialty of the house. We requested the lobster pasta to be made with shrimp instead, but unfortunately, it was lacking in shrimp. However, none of these issues were as bothersome as the valet attendants informing my husband about a minimum tip. They explicitly told him that a $20 tip was the minimum. Although spending $800 on dinner means that $20 wouldn't make a significant difference, it's the principle of the matter. I would prefer if they simply charged $20 for valet and allowed us to tip as we see fit, rather than dictating the minimum amount. Would I recommend this place? Well, if you happen to be passing by and want to grab a meal, then sure. However, overall, it's nothing particularly special.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I couldn't make it back to Los Angeles this
My wife and I couldn't make it back to Los Angeles this year for the Holidays since we live in Europe and we decided to gift her sisters and Mom afternoon tea at The Restaurant. I've had dinners here with friends and for meetings in the past and have always had a great experience. My experience arranging tea for my wife's family was very smooth and the team at The Restaurant was extremely accommodating given some last minute changes. My wife's family said tea service was excellent, champagne list was good and overall they enjoyed some relaxing holiday time together in a very nice setting. I would strongly recommend The Restaurant for tea service or dinner and thanks again for their team for helping to accommodate everything!
Be the first to ReplyWe took our family to the Hotel Bel Air restaurant for what
We took our family to the Hotel Bel Air restaurant for what was supposed to be our Holiday Brunch last Sunday afternoon. Expensive? Very! However, there were so many people with their dogs in tow, it was as if we were attending the American Kennel Dog Show! Even more disgusting, some of the many dogs were allowed to sit at the table next to us and eat off a plate while the alleged owner stupidly looked around for privileged praise. Worse, and as we were leaving, some of the dogs were defecating on the grass adjacent to the swan pond! Owner's looked at us as if to say "what are you staring at!" After we got home, my wife found our daughter's legs were ravaged with flee bites! Never again!
Be the first to ReplyI visited the Bel Air Hotel for my birthday on Saturday,
I visited the Bel Air Hotel for my birthday on Saturday, and I must say that our server, Juan, was exceptional. He went above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. Providing fantastic menu recommendations, he was incredibly hospitable. Our orders included Huevos Rancheros, a pastry basket, and French press coffee, all of which were delightful. Juan surprised us with a dessert, crème brûlée. It's a must have from their dessert menu! I have to say the seasonal spice muffin from the pastry basket was my favorite. If you're seeking fine dining and an incredible ambiance, I highly recommend the Bel Air Hotel. I'll surely return. Thank you, Juan, for your outstanding service!
Be the first to ReplyWe wanted the Restaurant at Hotel Bel-Air to be something
We wanted the Restaurant at Hotel Bel-Air to be something other than a nice hotel restaurant in a fancy hotel, but at the end of the day that is all it really is. The food was all good and presented well but $15-$20 per item overpriced which is hard to justify when the food isn't incredibly special. Service was good but not the memorable service you expect at these price points. The ambience was great however and it was fun to walk around the resort afterwards. Do I feel like I need to rush back? No. Was it fine for what it was? Yes.
Be the first to ReplyDon't go.
My girlfriend and I went for breakfast and the place was half full. After 10 mins I asked a bus boy to send a waiter. Waiter arrived and took our order and we never saw him again. My Bloody Mary took 30 mins to arrive, the fruit plate that I ordered never showed up. Then the manager appeared and apologized for the bad service. But the service didn't improve. They didn't clear dirty dishes and nobody came around to ask how the food was or if I wanted anything else. This place used to be special, but now it's dysfunctional and lazy. What a shame.
Be the first to ReplyIm not going to lie the food was good - presentation was
Im not going to lie the food was good - presentation was there. the restaurant was very nice. i went with a family of 10 , we ordered bread and butter and we hadn't finished the bread and the waiters took the bread away (one of 3) they took away - we let them know "we werent finished with that bread - there was 4 breads still there" she went to the back returned with two baskets of bread, "oh im so sorry they took it to the back and placed it there) one with 3 breads not touched (but not bread we received it was a different shape and doe - the other basket filled with bread that was bitten and ripped up and put back into the basket) we were shocked! as a high class restaurant with the prices you put you're bringing me someone else's bitten up bread!? after speaking to them they returned with new bread which was nice but not the greatest feeling since we were about to eat someone else's eaten up bread we let them know it was so unprofessional. we ordered coffee and my cousin order hot latte but asked for scorching hot coffee they brought her semi warm coffee, she returned it asked for hotter , returned with warm coffee she said i asked for very very very hot coffee , he then says i tried this is the most i can do , she then said take it back i don't want it then, excuse me? you cant make a hot coffee hot??? we got the coffee back scorching hot , so after the third time they managed to do it. all and all - with a big check and good amount of tips we didn't leave so happy. please make sure your customers leave happy. :)
Be the first to ReplyWe had a great time having brunch at this hidden gem.
Lots of great drinks and delicious food. Service was great and we never felt rushed. We will definitely be back again!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing restaurant experience.
Everything was well tailored and fantastic. Ordered the tortilla soup which was probably the best I've ever had. Bread basket was unbelievable.Chicken fingers and cheese pizza for the kids was wonderful. Lobster pasta was magnificent and the cookies at the end of the meal capped it off perfectly.Pricey but worth the experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe experience overall was great.
The surrounding area is gorgeous nestled among beautiful homes in a residential area of Bel Air. The valet ($20) is impressive. No need for a ticket, the staff makes it a point to remember your appearance. They saw me and the family walking towards the valet area, and before we could get there, the car had already been brought to the front. Wow!The inside was even more spectacular. It was quaint, calming, and romantic. The hotel grounds is spacious and luscious green, with ducks, stream, bridge, and gazebo. Amazing! The hostess greeted us warmly and immediately escorted us to our table. Followed right away with another member of the staff to provide water for the table. There was a little bit of delay (10 mins) before our waitress came with our menu. I think her shift might have just started, but she was so polite, engaging, understanding, and accommodating.I had ordered a salad as my entree but it was not to my liking, no problem. She recommended another salad based on my feedback and it was right on! My family enjoyed everything we ordered on the menu:- 8 oz Filet minion cooked medium rare (off the menu)- Black truffle pasta- Pasta with lobster- Cheeseburger- Truffle fries- Triple chocolate with ice cream dessert- Cracklin' Rosie (non-alcoholic)- Cab from Paso Robles- Cup of AmericanoGood eats, cheers!
Be the first to ReplyThis was a really nice surprise as Wolfgang been around for
This was a really nice surprise as Wolfgang been around for so long but you don't really hear of him anymore...My wife had a business meeting at the hotel so while there my daughter and I decided to have dinner, which was a great idea as this was a great dinner, every dish was beautifully presented and tasted superb. Aside of the fact that the food was great, the hotel is elegant and the dining experience overall was great. It's a little pricey, but well worth it. ($450 for 2 without drinks).
Be the first to ReplyReally disappointed with this experience.
Me and a few of my girlfriends came here for dinner and the complete lack of service accompanied with anemic food portions just made our time here lackluster. The environment and decor of the restaurant, I will say, is really beautiful and timeless looking. But the fact that we had to wait 15 minutes for the host to even check us in and for our table to be prepped, despite being on time for our reservation, made it extremely awkward for our party to just be standing around. A waiter didn't come for another 10 minutes, and drinks took an additional 15. We had been at the restaurant for almost 45 minutes before we could even get a waiter to take our dinner order. The lack of service and attention, including the most basic thing like filling up our water glasses, was really disappointing. I wanted to like this place, but minimal sized portions (we got the pasta) mixed with very underwhelming service, just made for a really bad night for our group who was out to celebrate.
Be the first to ReplyIf you are looking for a romantic dinner for a special
If you are looking for a romantic dinner for a special occasion, KEEP LOOKING. Wolfgang Puck and the Hotel should be embarrassed that this is the best they can do. In fact, as of March 31, Wolfgang will no longer be affilaited with the restaurant. The food is just OK and the prices are through the roof, starting with $18 if you want some bread. I was looking forward to the $38 chicken pot pie ($28 at the Grill on the Alley) only to find that they have added truffles and it is now $68. Most entrees are $60+. There are no classy touches like an amuse bouche to start, or a couple of sweets at the end of the meal that you expect from a gourmet restaurant. Tip: if you really have to eat there, you can get a burger ($38) or pasta ($32) (but not the hciken sandwich) off the bar menu.
Be the first to ReplyMy first time at Hotel Bel-Air and at Wolfgang Puck but I
My first time at Hotel Bel-Air and at Wolfgang Puck but I will 100% be back as my experience overall was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The valet at arrival was very kind and welcoming. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful, even at night. I cannot wait to visit during the day time to truly see all the greenery and of course the swans. The ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, the booths were very comfortable and we had a heater which was a nice touch on a cold LA evening. Our waiter was amazing, and very attentive. The drinks were 10/10 and the food was just as delicious. I truly recommend the Saffron Campanelle 'Cacio e Pepe' Pasta. It is a very rich but light pasta and it had a surprising amount of lobster. My boyfriend ordered another pasta (pork rib?) it was also good but we both preferred mine. Phenomenal dish! After our dinner we were brought a dessert for our anniversary which was such a nice touch. We took our drinks to the bar which was also such a great ambience. I look forward to coming back again!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I gave his 91 year old mother a birthday
My husband and I gave his 91 year old mother a birthday dinner party at Wolfgang Puck. It was a disaster and an embarrassment for the 15 guests we invited. We all ordered off the menu and the food and drinks were served an hour between courses. There was also a big event going on and they weren't staffed properly in the restaurant. We were very disappointed and told the servers and all they did was bring us desserts on the house. I called the next day and spoke to Michah, the Food & Beverage Mgr. Michah gave me his personal cell phone number to contact him at any time for a complimentary dinner for the 2 of us to make up for the mistakes they made that night. I asked for it to be in writing and he said he was not going anywhere. Well, I contacted him yesterday to arrange the dinner and he denied our full conversation and will not live up to his promise. I asked him how I was able to get his personal cell phone number and he said someone gave it to me which is incorrect. I don't like to be offered a complimentary dinner and then have it denied. I mentioned the restaurant is closing in March and want to come in for the dinner and he said it's not closing. It's in the news I told him and he said it's a misprint. Wolfgang Puck is separating from The Dorchester Collection who owns the property. He still denied it as it will be a different menu without Wolfgang Puck's recipes and name. The Bel-Air Hotel is a 5 star hotel and no one should be treated like the way I have been. It also makes Wolfgang Puck look bad.I have contacted the general manager of the hotel and awaiting a return phone call back. I emailed the corporate offices that manage the property, the iTeam at NBC, the Eater.com and some other sources. I received a phone call from the general manager's assistant who was contacted from the corporate offices and is offering us a complimentary dinner for 2! She is sending me an email confirmation! I'm stoked! This is what Michah should have done in the first place!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was actually amazing.
As soon as I walked in I saw the swans. As I entered the facility, I was greeted by a gentleman named Teddy Goodman. He was probably the best waiter I have ever experienced in my life. He made the trip so comfortable. I will definitely let Wolfgang know. He is the best if you ever come here for a beyond experience see Teddy.
Be the first to ReplyI haven't been to Hotel Bel Air in decades but it was fun
I haven't been to Hotel Bel Air in decades but it was fun to go back and see the secluded, beautiful hotel with the pond with white swans. Nestled in the hotel, The Wolfgang Puck restaurant has a nice open air vibe and wonderful decor. You feel good there. Definitely a premium price but feels worth it for the restaurant and hotel grounds. We ordered the smoked salmon pizza, bread , BBQ Salmon Salad and desserts. All good!Valet Parking is $20 so prepare for that. They don't give you ticket.
Be the first to ReplyRecently dined there for lunch.
The ambiance is exquisite; we sat on the. patio. People watching is fascinating. The guests were either very senior or very young. Service is outstanding. The problem is the food. I'm not even going to discuss the prices. The fresh rolls were delicious. My "Nancy Reagan chopped salad" was not much better than the La Scala chopped salad. It had many ingredients, but nothing which was identifiable. It was an amorphous mess. My companion had the Thai salad which she enjoyed. She was, at least, able to identify what she was eating. Lovely setting- mediocre food.
Be the first to Reply3.75 stars but I'm not rounding up to 4. We had the bosc
3.75 stars but I'm not rounding up to 4. We had the bosc pear/ goat cheese salad, the salmon, cacio e pepe, and an unremarkable desert. The salad was really good/ not great, the salmon was exceptional but comically tiny, and the cacio e pepe with lobster was absolutely criminal. Bland shell pasta with some scattered lobster...please, calling it cacio e pepe is like calling grilled steak eggplant Parmigiano...it was a joke. And the service was good, it was fine, but it is nowhere on par with their sister hotel the BHH. The prices and environment are just like the Polo Lounge but the service is maybe, maybe halfway there. It's too bad really, the hotel is a bad-ass LA institution, the restaurant is just ok. Oh, but they do have a really great Rioja on the wine list, highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyA truly wonderful dining experience.
Everything is expertly prepared and the staff and service are so respectful and pleasant! We made reservations and had a lovely night out!
Be the first to Reply$240 for breakfast for two people including tip.
We had two omelettes, three glasses of rosé and a bottle of sparkling water. First, we inquired about the rosé wines, and were told one was from Provence. Once served, it was a deep and heavy rosé, almost syrupy. Our server let us know the other rosé was from Provence, and it was great, and the other one went to waste. My friend and I ordered the same omelettes. I asked how the omelettes were served, and was informed French style which tends to be on the soft cooked/runny side. I requested my omelette cooked "medium" and my friend confirmed soft/chef's way without mushrooms. My omelette was cooked perfectly, and my friend's was served over cooked and even browned. We waited and no one came by to ask how our meals were, so we started to eat. We were almost finished when someone asked if we needed anything, and I mentioned how the omelette was served, and all we were told was sorry. Poor customer service and they were not busy at all and well staffed. This is coming from someone who was a server at one of the busiest delis in town with the biggest menu before Cheesecake Factory, and I was required to prep certain dishes as a server. Very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyThe pancakes were good nothing special.
The lobster omelette was horrible. The taste of the lobster made me nauseous and I love lobster so this must have been either from can or old. The huevos rancheros was decent. Scrambled egg with side of bacon was equivalent to IHOP and I accept more if I pay $200 for breakfast. I enjoyed the ambience.
