My review is only pertaining to the dessert and chips/salsa! Service is phenomenal and staff are super nice. Got some stale chips in the mix but the salsa has a nice kick. Sheet cake was quite disappointing. Idk why but the chocolate tasted like some of those zero sugar chocolate bars to me? The pecans were a nice touch though.
Be the first to ReplyChecked this place out after all the great reviews.
Was honestly disappointed in the food. The presentation and taste was very basic, looked like I cooked it. Being from Texas, we were excited to have a new spot, but would not go back. Everything also is kind of overpriced, the drinks were small for the $. The service was great.

Super friendly folks working at Yellow Rose, they took the best care of our party of 6 for Brunch. Our table was ready, and the wait staff were super attentive, and delivered the meal and drinks with ease. Everything was cooked just right, and the baking is up there with the very best. We had a couple of buttermilk Biscuit, egg and Cheddar Cheese breakfast sandwich plates, which I'd say. Is something I'm glad I got to experience! With this item, you get a choice of topping's like, avocado, bacon, sausage, or ham, the eggs were cooked perfectly and the cheese adds just the right kick along with the combo of ingredients as a whole. The flour tortillas are excellent as well. The Jem Salad, is a welcome change from most salad offerings. Desserts at Yellow Rose, are all top notch, really doesn't matter what you choose, because they are all made with care. Weekends, Sat and Sun, adds Donuts to the menu, and they are made that morning for brunch only (can run out) and they are light and some, if not the best we've had. Chocolate, Frosted/Glased, Cinnamon, and a tbd filled version, + filled Kolache's. Texas Sheet cake, and all Pie and cake variants are all winners. It's a nice atmosphere with a spirited crowd, and they play some of the best music at any restaurant in the city. Thoughtful playlists of generally more creative songs from often lesser known bands. They are hard workers, but you might not notice, because of the easy going and uplifting personalities that service our community.
Be the first to ReplyThe tacos at Yellow Rose are substantial and flavorful.
A filling lunch. It is a younger crowd here on a Saturday afternoon. People in their twenties and thirties. Although there are a lot of conversations going on, the space is not too loud. Service is great. They could see I was ready for the check, so the folks at the host stand took care of it so I wouldn't have to wait so long for the bartender who was tied up doing other things. I remember the tortillas being lighter and crisper on a previous visit but these were still good.

This place has a Michelin Bib Gourmand and was excited to try it out. I got the: ARANCINI** Honestly liked this more than my tacos! It had a nice fry to it, was warm and cheesy, and such soft, tender risotto inside. Such a nice contrast of textures and served with a green sauce which I don't normally see but was so herbaceous and lovely. Really great. TACOS I got two tacos - one carne asada and the pork one. It was good, though i've learned I'm not a huge fan of flour tacos though that might be the tex-mex way. I thought it was good, but nothing to write home about especially since they weren't the cheapest tacos. My favorite tacos in NYC are $5 each and still stand as competitive with LA tacos, which on average are just WAY WAY better than NYC's. All in all, I would come back but maybe for a drink and some apps.

Stopped by for a small dinner and it was great! We really enjoyed the bean and cheese tacos, they were pretty large and we thought the beer queso was very solid as well! Good mezcal marg, friendly service and nice ambiance inside too

Excellent dishes that change every few months and everything seems to be made fresh and comes out hot. Laid back when I go for lunch but would like to check out at night one of these days.

Cozy and quirky spot! The highlight (& reason for coming) was the chocolate cake - so decadent and yummy. I also got tacos (bean + cheese and potato) which were solid options but not standouts.
Be the first to ReplyTwo stars for the tacos.
Fillings were rich and well portioned; tortillas were pillowy. Portion sizes were small. Cocktails were weak. Service was passive aggressive at best. Entrees were forgotten. Table was not checked on after food was dropped off.

A cute cozy spot with vintage quirks and deco! Came for a birthday dinner with a preset menu offering starters (Little Gem salad, Spanish rice Arancini, Lonestar Beer Queso) and variety of tacos (Bean and Cheese, Papas Rancheras, Shredded Chicken Verde, Beef Barbacoa). I enjoyed the queso and house chips - very moreish with the just perfectly salted enough, crispy chips! The tacos came in by type around 4-5 on each plate - because it was Saturday night, I assumed the kitchen was busy but it was frustrating to have the plates come by in separate times. One friend was vegetarian and she had to wait for the Bean/Cheese or Potatoes tacos to be served. The tacos were decently stuffed but the flour dough made it more filling - having had munched on the queso/chips, I was full after 1.5 tacos!

A whole in the wall type place but the atmosphere feels so authentic and probably one of the best places for tacos in nyc The bean and cheese tacos are unreal, so simple yet tasty. The cocktails are average but real ingredients

Solid place! Ordered the Tequila Rose toddy as a drink and then broiled oysters, chips and salsa + vegan queso, shrimp tacos, and barbacoa and chicken tacos for food. The oysters and chips, salsa, and vegan queso were really good. The Tequila Rose toddy too. I wasn't crazy about the tacos. I'd just stick to all small plates next time. Will still come back!
Be the first to ReplyWait this place was surprisingly so good.
I just moved from Cali so I've been on the hunt for good Mexican food - it doesn't live up to Cali Mexican food, but it definitely has it's own twist/take that made it super enjoyable. I had never heard of bean & cheese tacos - and I LOVE a bean & cheese burrito so this was a must get and it did not disappoint. It was ample-y stuffed; I know it was meant to be in a soft tortilla, but a little crisp would have been fun. The star of the show was the queso dip - it was nothing like a bar/casual tex-mex dip, it was "fancier" + higher quality and was absolutely delicious. The arancini balls were also bomb.com - super flavorful and the perfect amount of fried exterior to interior filling... plus whatever green dip/sauce it was in was 10/10. My friends got steak and chicken tacos and loved them too (v high quality meat). The only thing that didn't live up was the corn bread - it's definitely more of a dessert item, but was just too dry. Was fun/better when dipped in the queso, but would otherwise skip out on it next time. Overall, Yellow Rose is like a "nicer" take on casual tex-mex and I just love what they've done with the menu + food. Would highly recco if you live in NYC!

NYC's version of tex-mex, and it's of course fantastic! Really impressed with the cocktail list - way more than margaritas and mojitos. I had the Shift Drink and it was light yet punchy with a hint I smoke - went perfectly with the Smoked Avocado Dip, which was undoubtedly my favorite dish with the sesame crunch and umami depth. Will be back to eat this dip and try more cocktails. Also loved the queso and tomatillo salad - looks like a basic caesar but the tomatillo dressing packs a lot of flavor. Tried both vegetarian tacos - they were simple but still tasty. Next time I'll probably stick to the "not tacos" section of the menu unless there are new taco additions. Loved the Texas sheet cake dessert - perfect sweet ending, the toasted pecans on chocolate cake was perfection!
Be the first to ReplyNothing special.
Tacos are too simple and boring. Overpriced for what it is. Got delivery of bean and cheese tacos and Barbacoa tacos. Both were bland even with salsa added. Barbacoa hardly had any avocado. Not terrible, but not good enough to repeat.

I love this place! I am originally from South Texas so it was nice to find something home-like close by! The barbacoa taco made me have a ratatouille moment!! Drinks are great too - overall recommend to anyone looking for some good food

what we ordered:beef barbacoa $7 carne guisada $7 shredded chicken verde $6 papas ranchera $5 overall, really great spot for tex mex food. we got the tacos and none of them disappointed. they were all so juicy and flavorful and comparable to the ones i've had in austin! i definitely need to go back on the weekends to try their breakfast menu as well as their other items that they offer.
Be the first to ReplyThe only good Tex Mex in Manhattan.
Great service, everything the server recommended was outstanding: arancini, tacos, corn bread ... and so filling didn't have space for sheet cake so have to come back for that and their breakfast menu!

My friend took me here for my birthday, and I loved it so much. It's hard to get a table, but the outside seating is heated and cozy during winter months! Our server knew it was my birthday, so I'm not sure if the praline was for the occasion or normally comes with the drink, but the Rose Toddy was aesthetically adorable and an absolutely delicious cocktail! Now for the tacos (weekend brunch menu):- Bean & cheese: 5/5- Chorizo egg: 4/5- Papa Ranchera: 3/5The tortillas are homemade, and make the biggest difference in the world; so tasty & rich! And the salsa that comes with the tacos is absolute perfection. I'm already wanting to go back to try the other tacos that I didn't try!
Be the first to ReplyThe rice balls , barbacoa tacos & rum were delicious.
Staff are really friendly. Def a must try.
Be the first to ReplyHad heard great things about this spot.
Sadly it's another example of why the East coast doesn't know how to do Mexican food right even when it's Texas Tex-Mex style. First table seated it took about 20 min to get queso and the salsa took even longer. Chips were either stale or undercooked. Salsa was not well salted. Quest had huge un chopped parsley for no reason. Tacos were poor to say the least. Tortillas were chewy, lacked flavor and appeared store bought to me. If they were not store bought then the staff needs to get better at making them. Bean and cheese was the best of the tacos. Migas lacked flavor, papas rancheros same problem, giusada taco had the best seasoning of anything served but sadly was in a weak tortilla which kind of ruins it in the same way bad rice ruins sushi. Would not come back. High marks given for the music though..any restaurant that plays roky Erickson gets an extra star from me.

After a recent visit to Phoenix, I was on a search for high-quality breakfast tacos and/or burritos. Of course Yellow Rose was one of the first places that came to mind after all of the recent hype. The best things we ate were the Meyer lemon donut and the papas ranchera taco, which ironically I was on the fence about ordering. The taco was not the easiest thing in the world to eat, but certainly worth the difficulty in flavor.I was less a fan of the migas taco, which neither had the satisfying texture of egg mixed with potato nor a spice kick. Also could have skipped the queso, which had a much-appreciated level of spice, but otherwise wasn't extremely memorable.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the only place in NYC where you will find me in
This is the only place in NYC where you will find me in sweats (matching Alo set obvi. But still sweats) and paying for my own food...I'm high maintenance and worth it. #feminism #4caratsorhedoesntloveyouOk...this queso is on another level, and it's vegan which me from 2016 loves when I did that whole vegan/yoga/men with beards thing...it didn't last and I pray to Gwyneth daily that this queso does. I would do absurdly bad things if the world ran out of this stuff to get more. Like what you ask!?! I'd move to some podunk CT town like New Canaan and pretend to be a good wifey wearing puffy dresses and heels to pick the kids up from country day (I do have the legs for those flare dresses), I'd forfeit European and Colorado ski vacations and go to...eww...Vermont (I don't want to think about this), I'd even consider dating (does 1 date count??) a guy who lives in Murray hill and considers Carl Icahn to be interesting...ugh I hope they never run out.The tacos are delicious. A Texan explained to me the tortillas are the game changer here, and I agree. She also was wearing a green Loro piana cape so I immediately trusted her judgement. Super hero's and people I aspire to be like wear cashmere capes. I didn't get close enough to feel if it was vicuña but her boyfriend had a 5517 Milsub on (google it you gold diggers) so odds were good. Anywho get all of the tacos. Not a single thing is bad here.Marg check. Honestly this is a top 5 marg in NYC so by the transitive property the world. They care about the turtles and the frozen version is actually somehow better. This place is either the gateway to heaven or the devil owns it and I accidentally traded my soul for this food, honestly I'm fine with either outcome so long as I can keep going. If I traded my soul I would like to not gain any weight from eating here but I can take that up with the devil next time I see him at Tone House
Be the first to ReplyDo you like Tex-Mex? Do you like just good ole Texan
Do you like Tex-Mex? Do you like just good ole Texan comfort food? Then Yellow Rose is your spot. I wouldn't even label it a restaurant but instead a teleportation machine. I've been missing Texas cooking (born and raised in Ft. Worth but been in the city since 2015) but after my first bite... I was home. This place is a true gem and serves the best queso this side of the Mississippi. The cocktails are also delicious and the staff is über friendly. If you want to escape the big apple and head to the Lonestar state for a few hours then look no further than the Yellow Rose.
