Had an absolutely wonderful time celebrating my friend's birthday here the other day. We came by at 9 and the 7 of us were seated very quickly. The food was excellent and the service was even better. The staff were super friendly, congratulatory, and accommodating. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect experience. The restaurant & bar itself was also very beautiful! The restaurant and bar were kind of separated into two rooms.

Food...good but cannot justify the price. The halibut was way overcooked. The portion, man, is tiny given the price. Drink was good. Ambiance was great. Seated outside on the beautiful afternoon. Service was good.

Zola/Bar Zola are absolutely fantastic and one of my favorite spots in Palo Alto. Every meal I've had here has been excellent, service exceptional and be it wine or cocktails...I've never had a bad libation. We stopped in this trip for dessert and night cap. The espresso martini was delish and I can't recommend the chocolate mousse enough. I almost licked the bowl . Looking forward to coming back soon for a full meal

I hadn't gone to Zola for a long time, mostly because it is more expensive than other French restaurants in the Bay Area and because at the time, it didn't feel like the extra price was worth it. After going back today, it sounds like the restaurant evolved positively over the last years (not that it was ever bad!) and I was happily surprised by the quality of the food. Yes, it's pricy, but considering how good everything was and how each dish is beautifully presented, it was worth it. I would definitely not go as often as my other favorite French restaurants, but it's a great place for special occasions, date nights, or dining with friends. What we had for dinner: scallop tartare (excellent), goat cheese mousse (fresh and tasty), Parisian gnocchis (delicious), coq au vin (tasty and filling), cheese platter (great assortment and generous portions), and desserts. Perhaps my only caveat would be the limited options for dessert. It would be nice to have 2 or 3 more choices.

We sat in the heated outdoor area with a canopy, it's nice in spring/summer when there's a light breeze. The service was attentive without being overbearing. There was a slight 15 min wait for our reservation on a weekend, but I didn't mind. There's a nice bar you can sit at while you wait (first come first served.) Chenin blanc -- i really enjoyed this wine, it's a golden white wine with a fruity bouquet and it went well with the salmon. Dozen oysters -- these were mignonette oysters, so all on the smaller side but sweet and went well with the Tabasco, horseradish and lemon it was served with. Steak frites -- there are 3 steak frites to choose from, i liked this particularly because of the sauce poivre (peppercorn). it was perfectly medium and the shoestring fries were lightly salty with the perfect texture. Tarte tatin -- forgot to get a picture but it was done so well with juicy apples and a puff pastry that went well with the ice cream. it's sort of like a french apple pie with ice cream. Since we were here for a birthday, it was nice the restaurant offered a complimentary dessert of choice. We'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyI just love this place.
I've known for a long time that Zola food is incredible, but today, I experienced cocktails at BarZola and those were simply divine. Highly recommend this place and especially appreciate that they are open till midnight on weeknights.

Finally got to try the well-renowned Zola+BarZola! Been wanting to try. Got the bretzels. Very quick to come out. Texturally, bretzels were great. Loved the creme de gruyere. I am a huge gruyere lover, so I rejoiced at the opportunity to try the creme de gruyere. Even got a few scoops of the creme de gruyere by itself (yum). Got the Wagyu Flat Iron steak-frites. Steak was delicious. It was quite tender. I kind of expected more from the poivre sauce? Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the dish, but I almost felt the sauce was a let-down. I typically love steaks with a good sauce. I honestly really liked the fries. Thin-cut. Seasoned well. Good amount of crispy for their size. Loved it with the Sauce Dijonnaise. Loved the teal interior. I loved the restaurant's interior overall. Great aesthetic bar. Great walls. Very appealing to the eye. The bartenders were great; they were friendly and hospitable. They were attentive. Awesome job. Would definitely come again. I want to try their other dishes.

We had a wonderful experience at Zola''s Out bartender was delightful and explained ingredients and allowed us to customize our cocktails. Our sever Henry was amazing, and the halibut and steak we ordered was amazing, and ohhh those frites!!

We LOVED our meal here! Everything was delicious, especially the mushroom crepe - the first bite was "wow"-inducing. We sat at the bar, and the bartender Alex was very cool and made some of the best looking cocktails I've seen. Definitely pricey though. I enjoyed the music and vibes. We came for a late dinner, but I could see how the space might seem dark during daytime hours. It felt like a scene in there, which I didn't really know existed in Palo Alto. We will be back!

Only had cocktails there, but they were delicious and beautifully made. The bartenders were attentive and friendly. It was a bit loud, but we will definitely be back for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyCame here alone one night and sat at the bar.
I've been here twice before but never by myself. The ambiance is very dark and romantic, which I love. To start off I got the bread service which was very yummy, followed by a short rib dish ( I forgot the name sorry!! ) The bartender was super friendly and even gave me a free shot which was so nice since I was alone. I finished off the night with a crème brûlée that was the definition of perfection. I am so lucky to live a few blocks away from this place :)

Middling experience at recent Saturday night dinner for three. Pleasant outside table. Friendly wait staff. Cocktail and mocktail were very good. For starters, shared the crepe and endive salad, which were both excellent. Entrees less so. Bouillabaisse was generous but served cold and under-seasoned. Gnocchi was tasty but a small portion (6 pieces). New York steak at $59 was very disappointing - half of it was inedible due to fat or gristle. It was also under-seasoned. At $330 for above, plus one glass of wine (3 beverages total) including tax and tip, we are unlikely to return.

Me and my husband had a wedding anniversary and didn't really plan on a place to go, just went with the flow of a random choice. Never been to this restaurant before. It's a bit noisy inside, especially next to the bar. Food was pretty good, though it took a while for our order to be taken. Gnocchi with mushrooms were tasty, NY steak done to my husband liking. I got a moc cocktail done for my taste and even got a free dessert for our anniversary. Stuff is knowledgeable and nice.

Great ambience, pretty good service, but subpar food - the escargot was on the bland side (especially for a French restaurant), and the pork chop was SO salty I could not finish it. The pork was cooked well but I feel like I have never encountered such a salty sauce, (and I love salt/am the type to always add a little extra). With all that being said I found this place to be overpriced and would not recommend for the food - would maybe drop in for a drink, as the posh bustling atmosphere is nice and I imagine it'd be a nice place to have wine with friends, but for dinner alone, I'd say go elsewhere.
Be the first to Reply9:00pm reservation.
Arrived early, was seated at 9:20pm Waitress took so long to take our order another person had to jump in Bread: ehh not good not bad. I've had better free bread Bone marrow: sour, one of the worst bone marrow I've had Beef cheek: way to salty Fish cod: zero flavor at all, like eating cardboard Overall a bad dinner and experience overall. Will not be back

Beautiful space, came here with some coworkers and we were all impressed. The food and drinks were all great, nothing was disappointing but have to say the star was the creme brulee. I've never had creme brulee that good (as someone who doesnt usually gravitate to that dessert) I tried some of my coworker's and was very sad I didn't have my own. I'll go back for sure!
Be the first to ReplyIdeally, 3.
5/5 Zola + BarZola boasts a charming atmosphere and impressive menu, but be prepared to settle in for the long haul. While the wait was longer than ideal, the food itself was largely satisfying. The restaurant was busy on a weekday when we got there, so we were seated outside. Thankfully, they had heaters to keep us warm while we dined. Food: The cote de porc (pork chop) with porcini rub, pommes puree, and caramelized onions was delicious. The pork was perfectly cooked, juicy on the inside, and with a satisfyingly crisp exterior. The mashed potatoes (pommes puree) were very creamy and had a smooth, velvety texture. It complimented the pork chop really well. The hanger steak was tender and flavorful, seasoned well, and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The beef cheek bourguignon was Slow-cooked to melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, but the sauce didn't quite hit the spot. Overall, this dish was okay. Ambiance: The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The dimmed lighting and comfortable seating created a perfect setting for a relaxed evening. Service: The slow service significantly impacted the experience. Our wait time between drinks and our main course was quite long, which unfortunately detracted from the overall flow of the meal. Overall, Zola + BarZola offers delicious food and a lovely atmosphere. If you're looking for a leisurely luxurious dining experience and don't mind waiting a bit between courses, then Zola + BarZola could be a good option. However, if you're short on time or prioritize fast service, you might want to consider another restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyA very unprofessional restaurant.
Unbelievable weird service team and owner. We left right away without eating there because we were not sure what we would be served. All service team wear random casual personal clothing. No uniform. Movers kept moving stacks of cardboards from the kitchen (??) while guests having dinner. The Chef (??) wearing an apron kept wandering in the dining area for unknown reason - not checking on guests for sure. Like some reviews mentioned previously, their host, Nathan, is very rude. Worst of all bay area.

I've noticed this spot a while back and have always been wanting to try them. It seems always packed. We finally were able to grab a reservation and checked them out. First, I love how friendly and highly accommodating their hosts Nathaniel & Stephanie were. I enjoyed their warmth and smiles the most. We were greeted so kindly upon arrival and were seated almost immediately by the bar. I love the unique elegance of the place. Recieved warm smiles and greetings from Alex & Jules our bar tenders and was offered the menu as they set our places up with water and utensils. They have a few interesting items on their menu from their cocktails, brews and selection of prime liquor and wine. We elected for the famous Old Fashion, Side Car, martini and Penicillin a couple of times. And they were all made perfectly well. We also tried their Charcuterie as an appetizer and that was fun. Then ordered the Salmon, Polenta Chicken, and the grilled bone morrow... all of which had interesting flavor and texture, we enjoyed them although the salmon came a little undercooked but they were quickly to fix and replace which I thought were excellent customer service. Then we were offered desserts, we were served "Chocolate Moose & Fruit Tart Pie Pudding. I love how the lovely hosts Nathaniel mentioned that the chocolate moose was to die for and it'll be the most magical and delicious thing, and he was absolutely right! It really was!! Overall, we enjoyed pretty much everything and definitely recommend this place to everyone. We will return for sure!

Been here a couple of times, good ambience, drinks, great music on the weekends. Recently, had an awkward experience of being kicked out of the bar just after closing time because it was for "friends and family only" at that time. Prior to that, I was minding my own business completely alone until a "friend" of the establishment started a conversation with me, or else I would likely not have been there. The host was so eager to kick me out, he didn't know the bar hadn't even given me my check yet. Feeling a little weird about it, a little "singled out".

Lovely restaurant and cocktail bar in Palo Alto! The cocktails are amazing and the food is delicious. We sat at the bar and the bartenders are very attentive (even when it got busy) and very easy to talk to. Reservations and spots go quick!
Be the first to ReplyFood and drinks are amazing.
Everything perfect. The service is really lacking. We sat down and ordered- soup and two entrees and drinks. The soup came out in 10 minutes before the cocktails. 20 minutes to get cocktails (soup long finished) and hour before entrees came out. Which was ok - no hurry. The table had a number of spills on it and was never wiped. I ordered mint tea. I got a cold cup of water with mint leaves in it for $4. For the price, I'm not sure I will go back with such weak service even though the food was top notch.
Be the first to ReplyThis spot used to be one of me and my wife's favorite spots.
Although prices were high, we felt the quality of food and service made it worth it. Came back in Feb 2023 and the food was just okay. Service was just okay. But prices were still high. Most likely not gonna come back again. Sad...
