Cantinetta Chur Reviews from The Last Year
Best Pasta in Austria.
This is an extension of the famous Antinori restaurant in Florence, which now also has openings in Rome and London. It is a bit different from the classical Tuscan menu in Florence for obvious reasons. Personally, I find that a plus. We had the capellacci to start, and it was the best pasta I've eaten outside of Italy with the possible exception of a few London restaurants. Certainly better than highly touted restaurants in New York and Chicago. If this pasta were served in NYC, the place would be fully booked for weeks ahead. We had fish and shrimp as main courses. Both were excellent and authentically Italian, but seemed like a let down after the pasta. All vegetable sides, which can be hard to come by in this potato crazy city, were first rate. We did not have dessert because, well, Demel's is only five minutes away. Small but good wine list. Excellent service that didn't show any of the problems mentioned below. Pasta and a salad will give you the finest lunch in Vienna. It is not cheap, but I found it to be worth the price.
Just amazing
Perfection complete.. we enjoyed a wonderful evening with family with the most amazing service and the food was a dream. The antipasto, through to the various courses with pasta , veal, fish, wine and dessert. Just amazing! Thank you for a wonderful evening with family
Great spot for risotto and pasta! Crazy wine pricing.
We have had dinner here a few times. It’s a great Italian spot for dinner in Vienna. It is especially good for the risotto and pasta with black truffles. We also had entrees of shrimp and sirloin steak. They were very good but the risotto was the highlight. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. My rub is the wine pricing. It is excessive! We ate the night before at Opus in the Imperial Hotel which is a high end fine dining restaurant. I don’t put Antinori in this category. The Tignanello which is one of their high end wines was priced at 229€ while it was 164€ at Opus. The thing is Antinori owns the winery and the restaurant. So how does an added layer of distribution and cost allow Opus to sell it for so much less? All of the wines are priced this way. Service was very good. Nice evening overall but the wine pricing holds me back from rating it a 5.
Fancy night out
I booked this reastaurant months in advance. It is very fancy and very expensive. You are paying for the experiance as well as the food. It was packed so i was happy i had made a reservation. The service was excellent the food was good.
A satisfaction for the palate
Delicious and refined restaurant 100 meters from St. Stephen's Cathedral, in the historic center of Vienna. High level cuisine, excellent quality raw materials. Good level of service; waiting times right. I recommend truffle risotto: super excellent! We were very satisfied; the atmosphere was also very pleasant. Correct quality/price ratio. To try!
Very good
Cozy place, friendly staff and excellent quality food cooked very well. We tried the fettuccine with truffle (excellent), the sirloin (very good) and the tiramisu (delicious). Super recommended
A great Italian
We came across the restaurant by chance. We had been to what is supposedly the best steakhouse in Austria the night before, but we ate a much better meal at Cantinetta. My wife and our business partners' meals were also excellent. The wine selection is very balanced and the prices are reasonable - actually good for the quality offered. We have already reserved a table for our next visit to Vienna.
The food is excellent, the service is unfortunately incredibly arrogant
The food is incredibly good, which is what I would expect at these high prices. The service was very good at first, but when we received the bill and said with a wink that we didn't understand why, with a bill of €255, they would charge €2 for a carafe of tap water (which the service itself decided to bring us) and not just leave it alone, as such little things offend customers, the mood in the service changed. The waiter reacted incredibly insulted, really annoyed, and then refused to give us a tip, which I didn't understand because his performance had nothing to do with our feedback. When I explained to him that his behavior towards us was insulting and that he was offending us, he continued to be stubborn. I have the impression that he still thought his behavior was professional. We were left shaking our heads in incomprehension that the guest, his feedback and his well-being were obviously not important to you. The waiter was concerned with being right, no matter what. And so he managed to turn the excellent impression we had at the beginning into the opposite and made us decide not to come here anymore, but to spend our evenings elsewhere with good food and a pleasant atmosphere. Thank God there is enough choice. The Cantinetta Antinori obviously doesn't need to make an effort to attract guests; despite the very similar reviews (very good food, arrogant staff), it is packed and no one has yet seen any reason to work on the criticism. I think it's a real shame: the kitchen works wonders, but the service cannot match the performance of the kitchen "outside" for the guests at the same level. Training on customer orientation and correct behavior in conflict situations is definitely advisable.
Still good 20 years later
My wife and I first visited this restaurant 20 years ago. This was the first GOOD restaurant in our life. And 20 years later, they are just as good. Delicious food, beautiful interior, fast service. The price tag is high, but not prohibitive. The restaurant is definitely worth the money. If you want delicious Italian food in a nice place, this is the place for you.
