Carmine's Italian Restaurant - Washington D.C. Reviews from The Last Year
big delicious portions
Amazing service! We sat at the bar and had kevin. I saw a review saying this was expensive but the portions are so big. My mom & i shared a lunch plate. Food was great, Cesar was AMAZING.
Visiting DC we were looking for place for dinner and we
Visiting DC we were looking for place for dinner and we ended up here . Great choice ! It is a family style Italian place. Our food we order was delicious!!! Our waiter was so nice !! Next time I would take bigger group ! It was a lot of food
Quite possibly the best Italian food I've ever had
Quite possibly the best Italian food I've ever had especially the lasagna. Everything we tried was perfection. The salad was a little over dressed but the garlic bread that was served with it compensated for it. The desserts were amazing we tried the cheesecake and this espresso chocolate brownie or maybe it was fudge either way it was delicious The service was great and our server was great as well
Service by Laura our server was amazing and pleasant.
Chicken parm was deffinetly overcooked. The manicotti was great good wine and raviolis marinara were descent. Focasia herb bread was great. Water was cold and served with ice.
Man, this was the best place I've ever been in DC.
I'm recruiting a group to go back. Everything was amazing
We've been to Carmine's several times over the years.
Lunch, dinner, work group lunches and dinner. We recently ordered dinner from Carmine's through DoorDash for my birthday. Stuffed mushrooms, chicken parm, veal scallopine, chocolate cannoli. Can describe all of it with one word...DELICIOUS! The attention to detail from Carmines with securely wrapping and layering all of the food was amazing. We have leftovers for 2 more dinners. If you haven't been...GO! Don't think I've ever read a review in the WaPo by Tom Seitsema on Carmine's, he should check it out.
I would recommend to come eat here.
The food was flavorful but the only thing that needed some improvement was the service. I do recommend the spaghetti and meatballs and the garlic oil and chicken was delicious. Bring a big appetite and your family will be full by the time you are done. Family sized portions of food. The name is Curtis and he was interesting to say the least over all phenomenal.
Highly recommended Italian cuisine
Highly recommended while visiting Maryland. The food was delicious! It is family style so the orders are large enough to share with others. The cost for the meals were reasonable and we were able to get a taste of everything without wasting food.
Lovely service.
They do serve cold bread, but other than that the atmosphere & great food & lots of it.
Great Group Lunch Spot
I booked a group lunch for 60 people this week and everything went great. When I booked I was told that if anyone left hungry then something was wrong and that could not be more true. It is SO MUCH food! My group was very happy. They raved about the Chicken Parm, so definitely get that as part of your meal.
We held a group dinner at Carmine's for the past two years
We held a group dinner at Carmine's for the past two years and both times we received impeccable service and generous portions of food served family style. The group events contact perso was very quick to respond and very professional each time we had questions. AND! The price was VERY reasonable. We hope to return to Carmine's each time we host a dinner in DC.
Worst service in my life, the host explained about how it
Worst service in my life, the host explained about how it was a family style restaurant and sat us down at a high top table. We tried to get a table but they could not explain why we couldn't. There were open tables for 2 all over so when we tried to seat they told us they were all reserved. We waited to get service for over 30 minutes until we finally left. The tables for 2 were still open by the way. I Wouldn't come here ever again even if the food was free.
Candidly, I usually avoid chains, but I came for dinner
Candidly, I usually avoid chains, but I came for dinner with a group visiting D.C. for a social media summit. The organizers picked Carmine's since it's centrally located in Chinatown and host private groups in private rooms. Since there were around 40 of us, we sat at two long tables and servers brought out food family style. Surprisingly, I enjoyed all the food, especially the stuffed mushrooms, chicken Marsala, shrimp in red sauce, and chocolate torte. It was plenty of food and full of flavor. Do locals eat here? I don't know of any, but if you need a decent Italian spot with lots of space for groups, go here!
Decent Italian
Decent food, expensive but not outrageously so, good service, nice atmosphere, not too busy or noisy on a Wednesday night. Dinner for three (mountainous fried calamari appetizer, mixed seafood over linguine and veal marsala--plenty of leftovers) plus drinks was $250 before tip.
Our Favorite Italian Restaurant !
My husband and I dined at Carmines for an early Valentine’s Day treat. The meal was absolutely delicious. Our server Makayla was fast, kind and efficient. Carmine’s is spacious and well decorated. The restaurant is always spotless. We drive a total of three hours just to dine there. The meals are served family style. We love the tender large appetizing meatballs with angel hair pasta and marinara sauce. They just melt in your mouth. The meals are so fantastic we always order extra take out meals. The managers are pleasant and always acknowledge their customers. Our all time favorite Italian restaurant.
EXPENSIVE TOURIST TRAP
Don’t normally write 1-2 star reviews because I was born into a family of small Business owners and I know the reality and struggles of owning such a business, however I cannot let this Corporate chain continue to get away with robbing their customers. It’s funny because I have a pal who works on Wall Street in New York and he has said the same things about this place. It is horrible and an expensive tourist trap in every sense. Also the waiters and staff are dismissive and rude, none of them seem trained in hospitality or restaurant industry. One thing is having bad food. Another is having horrible service and horrible attitude. Had to beg the waiters for water and then got attitude from the waiter when he complained about a salad bowl with iceberg lettuce.. said that was the standard. Unbelievable, then they also serve wine in glasses designed for water. Bread was hard and stale, like it had been out before. Can’t make it up. STAY AWAY!!! Major waste of money.
Sub par. Food was not good.
My two kids and I came here for dinner after the Washington Capitals game. The waiter was friendly, courtesy amd professional. The food was sub par. The Caeser salad was extremely salty to the point you couldn’t eat it. Why the chef added so much salt on top of the dressing is beyind me but we ate it. I complained to the waiter about this. Our chicken parm plate was huge but unimpressive. Low quality cheese on top and the chicken tasted like it was reheated. Either it didnt taste right or thats how chicken parm is in DC. We are from NY and know what a good chicken parm tatstes like. The rigatoni marinara awful. Ive been to many Carmines where the food haa been exceptional but here it didn’t match up. It was bad but we ate it because qe were hungry. The GM’s and managers sit around doing nothing other than observe. Suggestion: tell your chefa to better prepare their food for the prices they are charging. Maybe it was a bad evening who knows ? Management /ownership should pay a visit to the kitchen and improve. Do not recommend DC Carmine.
Horrible Experience
The service was mediocre. We had a reservation and waited to be seated. The food was marginal. We ordered caprese salad and were told it consisted of lettuce, tomato, basil, tomato and mozarella. It was drenched in oil and contained a chopped up red onion to which I'm allergic. The shrimp dish was good not great. Waiter was nice but disappeared for quite a while so we couldn't get our check. I'd never go back and would tell others not to waste their time. No prices listed either!
Nice place to eat with my wife!
Me & my wife discovered this restaurant. Long story short, the food was great & the service was wonderful. Highly recommended in my opinion!
Everything was perfect!
I took a group of 25 seniors to Carmines as a special holiday treat! We were treated very special. Our server was on top of his game. The food came out in perfect timing and it was superb! We had to order from a special menu because of our size but they gave us plenty of choices. It was a bit pricey but we got more food than any of us could eat so they gave us plenty of take away containers to take it all back home with us. Everyone said they had a great time and the food was wonderful.
