El miniBAR Madrid Reviews from The Last Year
I stopped by El Minibar in Madrid recently.
The restaurant had good service, amazing vibes for dining solo, with a date, or in a group. Food was really good as well and I'd give it 9/10: - Sangria: YES! - Cod & Shrimp Tapa: 9.5/10: Cod was really fresh, flakey with an amazing texture (similar to crab meat and doesn't fall apart). The shrimp was really sweet. The dish was a bit salty by itself so the bread was a good complement - Duck Confit: 8.5/10: Duck was really nicely cooked, the meat came off the bone without needing a knife. Rich and good quality duck (wasn't too fatty), but there was a subtle flavour that reminded me of overly frozen meat (not sure if that's what it is though). The sauce was really good and rich, and the slightly sweet/citrusy taste complemented the duck really well. Also, nicely cooked potatoes - Boar Roll: 8.5/10: Roll with crispy skin and packed with boar meat inside. It felt a bit too dense and dry so the mushroom sauce balanced it out a bit. It would go well with a drink like Sangria
Make sure you go!
Side street, inconspicuous bar/restaurant. Fabulous tapas, great drinks, staff friendly and helpful, lively ambience & not expensive. We even went back two nights later to sample parts of the menu we didn't have the first night! And, it was just as amazing! First night we turned up around 8 pm and were lucky to get a table, second night we popped in earlier in the day to make a reservation. Plenty of locals and tourists eating on both nights. I encourage you to try things you wouldn't normally eat - we are so glad we did! Highly, highly recommended!
Delicious, original and reasonably priced food
A great discovery. The food was all very good at a reasonable price. The cheese tapa with tomato jam, the eggplant rolls, the impressively cooked cod and the wild boar roll, also exquisite. The wine was also very good and they make delicious mojitos. Without a doubt we will repeat. The owner Nacho is charming, what more could you ask for.
Great 👍🏻
Warm and friendly welcome. Top service with a smiling waitress who gave us good advice for tapas 👌🏼 The very good tapas cuisine is a little different from the classic “tourist trap”. Very good value for money. We will come back with pleasure.
Atypical
Nice atmosphere in this atypical tapas bar The service is quite fast but the products are good Beautiful address in Madrid..
Try the goats cheese
Another fantastic find on a tapas crawl. It is not clearly signposted and we probably walked by it numerous times during our stay in Madrid without noticing it. A very quirky interior. We didnt book but waitress found us a table. She suggested the goats cheese - and boy did that deliver. Full of flavour. The calamari was huge and melt in your mouth. Dogs were welcome in the bar
To flee.....
We relied on the reviews to go to this restaurant. What a desappointment. The most expensive and worst tapas of our entire stay. We serve you in a hurry to send you the meal in 2 seconds to make room. Rude waitress. And the nice surprise, he brings you a tapas with the aperitif that you didn't order and the bill is €9.40 more. We complained and did not pay for this scam. At the next table, for an English couple it's the same €9.40 more. Finally, I didn't see any Spanish in this restaurant, when there are no locals that says it all! To flee!!!!!
Excellent Madrid tapas
Excellent tapas in a welcoming place, we were there for dinner with friends, good value for money, super recommended
Best little restaurant in Madrid!
This spot is fantastic. We stopped by without a reservation but they made space. The wild boar was a real treat. We enjoyed the tuna tartare with mango salsa too. Nice and reasonably-priced wine list too. We’re going back for more because we loved the entire experience.
More than good
Tasty and well-cooked dishes, polite and friendly staff, informal but not dirty surroundings, honest prices
Service under pressure and food poisoning at stake
As soon as we arrived they put pressure on us to order, and this lasted throughout the meal. We did not have a peaceful dinner, one of the waitresses was unpleasant. We had eaten in many other restaurants where the welcome was not at all the same. Out of the 4 people we were with, 2 got sick during the night (vomiting and diarrhea combined), so tough nonetheless. This food poisoning convinced us to never go back. I find it hard to understand all these positive reviews, but maybe we were just unlucky that evening!
The food here was a highlight of my time in Madrid.
We had just arrived from Seville and it was getting late and we needed something to eat. There were lots of places that looked okay near the hotel but I wanted something a little extra and I saw El Mini Bar on Yelp. Looking at the photos and reading the reviews, I thought it sounded pretty good and I wasn't alone. When we walked in the place was completely packed. It was probably close to 9 and the earliest we could get a table was 10:45, which is past my bedtime. As we turned to leave, two seats at the bar opened up so we jumped on them. The bartender got us some drinks and we scanned the QR code for the menu and were able to start eating right away. They brought some bread out and then we ordered Grilled goat cheese with crust and tomato jam, Fried cod with garlic shrimp, and Eggplant and bacon with tomato and orange sauce and feta cheese. Each dish was incredible. I loved that grilled goat cheese (tasted a little bit like saganaki). The cod was perfectly fried and amazing. The eggplant was probably my favorite...it had the perfect balance of flavors and textures. We were actually full by then but couldn't help but finish the whole thing. We left stuffed and happy, all for about $35. Since this place is popular and very tiny, it gets very crowded. Eating at the bar by the stairs was a challenge because people kept bumping into me but that was a minor drawback. Definitely glad we came to this place and I know we'll always remember that delicious food.
This restaurant was a huge disappointment.
We walked a distance looking forward to enjoying tapas and when we arrived at the listed opening time of 12 pm, we were told that they were not opening until 1 pm and to come back. This is not a way to run a business, and we would highly discourage anyone from patronizing it.
Fantastic option for late night eats near plaza mayor at
Fantastic option for late night eats near plaza mayor at great prices. My partner and I shared some "mini" sandwiches (they were definitely larger than we expected), along with the Oxtail roll and some tinto Verano. The food was all delicious and we left feeling quite satisfied! Would definitely recommend.
will go at least twice a week whenever i'm in the area.
great little hole-in-the-wall family business; probably the most memorable meal (three tapas, one cocktail with my wife) i had in madrid
Almost hidden on a small street, down some stairs.
We went early enough to be seated right away, but it is small and fills up quickly. The server recommended 2 tapas per person. Everything was good, but the goat cheese was delicious and we also really loved the eggplant wrapped in bacon.
Delicious food with very nice staff.
Found it online and we went immediately. Definitely worth it! Best tapas I've ever had. Something different than the regular tapas
Excellent food, ambience and very good service.
We ordered too much to list, nothing was below 5 stars!
It's easy to miss this place because you have to walk down
It's easy to miss this place because you have to walk down stairs to find it but definitely worth it! My favorite was the goat cheese, it's to die for! The calamari was also good. I didn't like the cheese and chicken because the cheese tasted like velveta which I don't like. The Spanish omelette tapa was free I think and was good but I didnt like that it was cold. The food came out really fast and prices are good for the quality!
Friendly staff gave free tapas of Spanish omelette on toast.
Decent food decent prices
