Kachka Portland Reviews from The Last Year
So pleased ! Went for mothers day.
The flavors are so unique. I always get nervy going to ethnic type restaurant that I am not familiar with. They blew the door off our expectations! From the drinks, appetizers, main course( mine was rabbit) so good! Tremendous service! That made it so special for the moms especially !

The food was phenomenal! I have never had this type of food before and the waiter was very nice and informative. I highly recommend the this place!
If only someone could figure how to get Russian food right!
If only someone could figure how to get Russian food right! Oh wait, these guys just did! An innovative take on Russian cuisine, modernizing it while staying true to its essence. We had a very enjoyable experience here. The staff were great, offered insightful recommendations and were very professional. The food was amazing. The lobster olivieh (on the special menu) was a star! The Zakuskis both hot and cold were amazing. The wine list was great! You can't leave without trying some vodka obviously. The ironic Soviet decorations were spot on! I've included some photos here. I'd highly recommend this spot!
Just had a great experience at Kachaka.
A friend and I had dinner on Monday night, we had reservations for 5:30pm. We were greeted promptly and given a nice table against the side wall. The space is attractive with a very eclectic retro Soviet chic. It's also a bright and open space that gives an impression of warmth. We ordered Moscow Mules which were good, very ginger forward. Our server explained the menu to us as there are so many selections to choose from. We had the dumplings stuffed with pork, beef, veal and onion, to start. They are very tiny dumplings so your not overwhelmed with dough. They were fantastic, they reminded me of Shanghai Soup Dumplings just a bit. Our next plate was the eggplant with prunes and tomato, really good, served with melt in your mouth buckwheat crisps. The buckwheat salad was a nice contrast to the other textures and flavors. We had also ordered for the pickled cucumbers which went with everything. Last but best was the clay pot rabbit with porcini mushrooms and a fantastic creamy sauce. They bring a platter of crispy fried potato cakes to put the rabbit on which compliments the rabbit and sauce perfectly. I saw also listed on the menu caviar and smoked fish , and various charcuterie which would be great to try with one of their vodka flights. They flavor their own vodkas! Another nice thing about Kachka was that they keep the music to a Lowe level so people don't have to shout to have a conversation. Service was prompt and friendly. A very enjoyable evening. I didn't take pictures of my food, we were to busy eating.

Thank you Phil Rosenthal for the episode on Portland that featured Kachka. We made sure to stop here on a very short trip to Portland. I will say that in our Wow-Pow-Chow review of our trip, Kachka was our Chow. They knocked it out of the park. I already told our son he needs to come with us on the next trip so he can try the horseradish vodka. It was a stunningly delicious vodka. I'm very fond of breakfast cocktails and vodka and this was such a great treat! We tried a few different food items. Everything was incredible! We're so happy we stopped here. We loved the little market upstairs. We loved the beautiful painting on the wall. Looking for to our next visit.

I came at lunch in a weekend, so I could not try their zarkuski experience. Instead I got the herring in a blanket, sour cherry dumplings, and a shot of horseradish vodka. It was all amazing. The herring dish is a wonderful combination of flavors, the infused vodka was strong without being undrinkable, and the sour cherry dumplings are just a delightful texture and flavor.
Russian/Eastern European cuisine was not one that I had
Russian/Eastern European cuisine was not one that I had previously considered as particularly flavorful but my visit here changed my mind on that. The first time we went during lunch time only the small upstairs deli was open, not the main restaurant. They still had a few sandwiches and small plates which we tried. We got the borscht which was light, cool and refreshing. They also sell some cured deli meats and a bunch of pastries and breads. We took home some delicious fluffy brown bread (wish I could tell you more than that). The restaurant was closed but they let us sit downstairs and eat in the dining room. We also had a delicious little crepe and the goat cheese dumplings. We added the garlic broth which turned it into a soup which was ok but I think we would just do them plain next time. there was still much we had left to try so came back for dinner a while later. This time we tried more dishes: - Baltic Sprout Butterbrodi: I would liken to a Russian bruschetta. Tiny salty smoked fish on fluffy brown bread slices w/ egg and some other stuff. I really liked this - Rabbit in Clay Pot: tasty stew & tender rabbit, tasted like denser darker chicken meat. It came w/ a side of some kind of buttery toasted hash brown sort of things, which were very good w/ the broth. - Pork neck Shashlik: pork skewers w/ applesauce essentially. Pretty good but my least favorite as it was kind of plain. I only regret we were too full to try the cabbage rolls.

Wow! Just WOW! We were in town for a concert and found this gem just a short walk from Revolution Hall concert venue! My teenage son and I had never experienced Russian/Georgian food, nor Tapas, so this was a REAL treat. Sunny, our server, was amazing and helped us choose incredible dishes to showcase the culture perfectly! The broad range of flavors is almost indescribable. We've never experienced anything like it. The Vareniki is a must! And do not miss the Fenugreek Plombir Sundae for dessert. We cannot WAIT to go back to try more. THANK YOU Kachka, for making our trip unforgettable
Phenomenal food and eclectic flavors.
Wonderful spot for some appetizers, caviar and vodka tasting.
Wonderful Russian ( East-European) food items, nice service
Wonderful Russian ( East-European) food items, nice service personnel. Gorbachev's portrait on the wall!
Very very small portions and overpriced.
My gf had to stop by some other place to eat because she was hungry after spending $150+ so keep that in mind. I'm Georgian so was not really impressed but it was ok to let my friend give an idea. Service was very slow, at some point I though they forgot our order or something

Overall Thoughts: Kachka is a cool, unique spot for elevated Russian tapas-- it's an experience unlike anything I've had before. Though pricey, it's well worth the splurge. The food is excellent (some misses, but the hits REALLY hit), the service is quick and attentive, and the vibes are fun and lively. It's not too crowded for happy hour on a weekday night, so you can probably get a spot just walking in then. However, it gets considerably more crowded and louder after 6pm, so definitely make a reservation if you're planning to go post-6pm. Although I came here by myself, this would be such a fun spot to come to with friends-- trying multiple infused vodka shots and eating here during happy hour is a truly solid deal. Food I tried: - Assorted Pickles (Happy Hour)- Sauerkraut, Maosolnye Cucumber, Tumeric Pickled Cauliflower, Pickled Beets (4.1/5): I liked how each item had a sharp, biting texture and sour flavor, but it was my least favorite dish out of everything I ordered. The cucumbers had inconsistent flavor with some pieces nice/slightly sweet and others lacking flavor. Surprisingly, I loved the pickled beets despite not liking normal beets. - Cod Liver Buterbrodi (4.9/5): This was so delicious-- despite being small in quantity, you could distinctly taste the cod liver which was so delicious and literally melts in the mouth. The toasted bread was really tasty and fresh, and the puree flavor was mild but tasted great. The horseradish added the perfect spicy kick to everything. - Tvorog Vereniki (4.9/5): Has to be the best vareniki I've ever had. The skin is incredibly fresh, soft, and supple, and the cheese is so soft, and slightly sweet and sour. The buttery cream on the bottom was slightly acidic, and overall, the textures were to die for-- so lush and buttery. Although the pieces are small and bite-sized, it comes with a lot and is pretty filling too. - Herring "under a fur coat" (4.4/5): This had a nice mix of neutral and intense flavors and textures. The herring was salty, soft, and literally melts in the mouth. The potatoes tasted plain and neutral, the mayo was slightly sweet, and the eggs were light and neutral too, while the beets offered a stronger kick of flavor. However, because it's a pretty hefty/filling dish, the flavors got monotonous kind of quickly. - Horseradish infused vodka shot (4.5/5): Glad I tried this unique shot. It had a super sharp, spicy kick to it. Apparently, the horseradish is infused at the root, which is why the flavor is so robust. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5 Food: 4.6/5 Ambience: 4.9/5 Service: 4.9/5 Overall Value: 4.7/5

Delicious, friendly, and a nice comfy spot for a wonderful lunch. Super flavorful and not too doughy on the sandwiches. Salt levels are good and service is fast and friendly.

Kachka in Portland - it's not just a restaurant; it's a time machine. Tucked away in the heart of the city, this place isn't about subtle flavors or delicate presentations. It's about the soul, the history, and the unabashed celebration of Eastern European cuisine. Let's talk about the stuffed cabbage rolls. They're not just rolls; they're parcels of nostalgia, each one packed with a punch of flavor that hits you like a freight train of deliciousness. The cabbage, soft yet firm, holds within it a treasure of perfectly seasoned meat and rice, simmered in a tomato sauce that's both tangy and sweet, with a depth of flavor that suggests a secret ingredient known only to the babushkas of yore. And the claypot rabbit - oh, the claypot rabbit. It's not food; it's a statement. It's Kachka saying, "We take the humble and make it regal." Slow-cooked to tender perfection, the rabbit falls off the bone, infused with a mélange of spices that sing a chorus of comfort and complexity. It's served in a claypot, because that's how you honor tradition - with earthy simplicity and a nod to the past. This is food with a backstory, served up by a chef who's not just cooking - she's telling a tale. And at Kachka, you're not just eating; you're part of the narrative, a character in a story that's as rich and savory as the dishes placed before you. Bourdain would've loved it here, not just for the food, but for the stories that come with every bite. The rabbit... Get the rabbit...

On a recent trip to Portland, my family and I decided to have dinner here as we had just finished binge watching the Netflix series, Somebody Feed Phil where he featured Portland as one or the places to discover new eats. This restaurant did not disappoint. Our waiter was very helpful when ordering family style as we had a table for 10 which included a toddler and a baby. We began with the meat & cheese board ($26) and the fish board ($10). For our dishes we ordered (2) mama luba's sweet 'n sour cabbage rolls with beef & lamb as well a pork, (3) pelmeni & vareniki dumplings and (2) Mushroom shila plavi. Every thing was delicious! We had enough food. Filling but we weren't stuff where you had to roll us out of the place. The ambience was nice and cozy, though the music may have been a tad too loud but all-in-all, very nice experience! Thanks Portland!
Way too noisy too enjoy your meal.
You need to find a spot to be able to talk. The experience was not enjoyable.
I always have a wonderful experience here.
The food is consistently fantastic, and service is friendly, and informative, always ready to recommend dishes. One of my favorite restaurants in Portland.

I had been wanting to come back after going through the cookbook and consuming their dumplings from the grocery store. Went for happy hour on a rainy Sunday. (Hell yes for weekend happy hours!) Our table of 3 got Moscow mules, horseradish vodka, mushroom salat, bread plate, tvorog vareniki, Siberian pelmeni, pickle plate, golubtski, mushroom shila plavi, the dessert plate, and complementary cranberry vodka. My favorite was the golubtski! Definitely snag a reservation. Parking next door couldn't be more convenient.
Don't skip the vodka!
I am so happy to have found this place. I used to go to a little Russian restaurant in the Brighton Beach neighborhood of Brooklyn, and Kachka just too me right back there! The food is just delicious. Flavorful, hearty, and beautifully presented. But most importantly, the horseradish vodka! Don't skip the vodka!
Yum
Absolutely great dinner. We grabbed a few small bites and an amazing Armenian wine. Lovely evening. I recommend the pickles, bread, and dumplings.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
