The cuisine is middle eastern inspired, with Persian and Syrian dishes. There were also touches of middle eastern decor throughout the restaurant (see photos). The name of the restaurant (Kubeh) refers to the dish the restaurant is known for which is a soup with boiled beef dumplings in a broth. They also serve fried Kubeh (like kibbeh served in nearby regions). Having grown up eating a similar Dominican food called Quipe or Kipe (fried bulgar balls stuffed with ground beef), I can appreciate the parallels.I didn't have the Kubeh soup (I had read from reviews the broth is very bland) although the beet broth version looked very striking from the pictures online. However, I did have the fried Kubeh which was very tasty and the warm cauliflower. The fried Kubeh was light, not too heavy, and it had pine nuts inside. The warm cauliflower was filling and crispy and came with tahini sauce. I only had these two small plates which was enough for me. My two friends ordered the Mejadara ( a vegetable rice dish), the mushroom Kubeh soup and the hanger steak. They said the soup was healthy tasting but not too flavorful. The hanger steak was very good but the Majara was way over cooked and not good. When we told the waitress about the rice, she immediately apologized and offered to change out the meal. When my friend said he was already full, she offered him dessert instead, which was gracious and appreciated. They got the saffron ice cream which they really enjoyed. For a Sunday evening, the restaurant was pretty full. There was actually a famous couple dining next to us, but they were discrete and with their family. Overall, the food was unique and wholesome. It looks like some dishes are better than others though and the quality is not uniform.
