The food here is exceptionally expensive .
.. one of the priciest restaurants we ate at in Italy. We don't mind paying for quality, if everything meets expectations. However, the service left a terrible taste in our mouths, even if the food ranged between terrible ... below average ... to amazing, depending on the dish. I will start off by saying that parking is a mess. It seems most people arrive by boat from Capri, Sorrento, Amalfi, etc. so not much parking is needed. There is no valet parking and street spots are impossible to find. The crowd here was the 'fanciest' crowd we had seen in any of the restaurants we dined in. They were all dressed to the nines and were a classy bunch. (There is a case when you walk in showcasing Ferrari memorabilia.) It is quite a drive through hills and small towns to get here by car. There were four of us and upon being seated, we asked for a table with a better view of the sea, only to be told that the tables nearest to the water were not being used at this time. Only 10 minutes later, they seated a party the same size as ours at one of the tables we asked for. Rude. (We did have a reservation and were not a walk in.) The biggest problem we had was the service. Maybe because we are English who speak competent but slow Italian, they dismissed us. But we were clearly forgotten about compared to other diners. Often we had to flag down waiters to ask for simple items, as nobody checked in on us. It seemed that 3 different waiters served our table and none of them seemed particularly friendly or went out of their way to ask how our food was. We felt dismissed and forgotten compared to the service directed towards others, who seemed like regulars. As for the food: - Fried appetizer plate (zucchini blossoms, potato balls and some kind of weird cheese wonton) were terrible. One of the worst things we ate on our trip. We have had better food at the carnival. - Spaghetti with zucchini (this was the 'famous' dish from the Stanley Tucci show) ... lived up to the hype. It was excellent. It had a very buttery/creamy taste. Almost like cacio e pepe with zucchini instead of sharp cheese. This was the best dish of the meal but so filling! - Roasted fish. This was prepared near our table as the waiter removed the meat from the bone and served our table. It was good ... nothing too special and we did find a couple pin bones in our serving, so if you order this, chew carefully before swallowing. - Fresh tomato salad. This was 3 - 4 heirloom tomatoes sliced into wedges and served tossed in olive oil and salt. A close second to the spaghetti for favorite dish. This may have been the best side dish we ate in Italy. - Lemon Delight. Virtually tasteless except for the sugar. It was basically pound cake and whipped cream. We never would have guessed it contained lemon, except for the pale yellow colour. This was a waste of calories. The second worst dish, next to the fried appetizer. - King prawns on lemon leaf ... Average bordering on above average. They were very fresh and cooked well. However, they weren't as big as expected for a king prawn and this dish wasn't amazing, or very filling. It was listed as an entree but is more like an appetizer. Overall, this was our most anticipated meal of our trip ... but sadly, our biggest let down. The meal was overall average for the price. Maybe we came on a bad night ... or maybe they just don't like tourists as we felt very unwelcome and not at all like guests. They have been around for a long time and obviously have lots of regular customers, so I am sure they are much better normally than the night we came. I hate to write a review like this for a restaurant which receives so much praise from others but wanted to be honest about our experience. Honestly, we were going to rate only 2 stars but gave 3 because we think we came on a bad night for the staff.
Be the first to ReplyService was non-existing for lunch - no help on the menu
Service was non-existing for lunch - no help on the menu for the cost - I expected they would take pride it making the visit worth remembering for the right reasons Had reservation - We arrived by boat - had a 2 1/2 window - needed every minute just to survive one shot to order - To pay - we had to hunt down our server - nothing was remarkable - a disappointment June 5, 2022
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch of shared cold seafood salad and seafood pizza.
We found this place while walking from the state museum downhill to the train station. The seafood was very fresh and the seafood pizza cooked in their wood fired brick oven was the best that we had. I would recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting, good food, friendly waitstaff.
We were a party of 11, asked for family style apps and dinner which was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped here for lunch yesterday during an amazing day
We stopped here for lunch yesterday during an amazing day boating with my family to celebrate my wife's 50th. I have heard a lot of great things about this place and it was one of the stops during our Italy trip I was really looking forward to. I made reservations well ahead and mentioned my wife's bday via email. I also mentioned it to the hostess as we were getting seated. The Good -Amazing location with spectacular views. -Great wine list (we had a marvelous bottle of french rose). -Caprese salad was the best I have had in my 2 weeks in Italy. The tomatoes were so good we ordered their "tomato salad" also just to have more of their tomatoes. -Tiramisu desert was also very good, minus the manner in which it was served. - My sons seafood risotto was fresh and full of seafood flavor. The Ok - The menu had "fresh seafood" as an app. This dish is oysters and clams on the half shell. The description is misleading. They were good but a was a miss for my wife who does not eat raw oysters. - The famous zucchini pasta was just ok. pasta cooked very well for sure but the zucchini flavor did not come through at all. it tasted more cheesy than zucchini. I was disappointed in this as perhaps I had wrong expectations of a fresher lighter dish. really nothing special in my view. The Bad - Service sucked!! - Our server was always in a hurry and did not provide great hospitality befitting the reputation and menu cost. He seemed bothered by our questions and not interested in serving us. here is one example of several. My wife nicely asked him to take a photo of our table and I said in a jovial manner that I also want one when the famous zucchini dish comes out. He turns around says "ok we wait till your dish comes out" and simply walks away. Dismissive arrogance at a restaurant is frankly offensive. At the end of the meal we ordered one dessert to share (we were full but wanted to have something sweet for my wife's 50th as no one from the restaurant bothered acknowledging our special occasion). We also ordered coffee and espresso. The table had not be cleared of our plates and the dessert was simply plopped in the middle with zero effort to clear our dirty dishes. No coffee or espresso served! As this was somewhat unpleasant I tracked someone to get rid of our dirty plates so we can enjoy our meal, still no coffee or espresso served! We waited a bit longer and I simply asked for the check and asked him to remove the coffees. When I presented my Am Ex card I was instructed to go inside and pay instead of our sever taking it up himself. Upon checking the bill the coffee and espresso were still on it. As I was paying the 355Euro lunch bill, I tried to explain, nicely, to the woman at the register that I was disappointed that my wife's bday was ignored. She seemed to either not understand or not care. However, there was a different waiter there and he completely got it. He was extremely apologetic and offered to make it right by bringing something out. I appreciated his gesture but told him it was too late and we were on our way out. I know our meal would have been better were he our server. All in all the location is magnificent, but our experience was the opposite of what good hospitality looks like. So if you go there, it's a nice place to chill grab a seat outside, a bottle of wine, definitely the fresh tomatoes. Just don't expect to get good hospitality. Or, perhaps you will be lucky and have the waiter I met at the cash register and have a better experience.
Be the first to ReplyWe chartered a boat to see Capri, and the Captain
We chartered a boat to see Capri, and the Captain recommended we eat here. It was amazing. The views cannot be matched and the food was gorgeous. We regret not trying the zucchini pasta, but maybe we will be fortunate enough to return here one day. This meal will be a memory that I will carry with me.
Be the first to ReplyIf you've been to Red Lobster back in the states you can
If you've been to Red Lobster back in the states you can skip this overrated disappointment. Having achieved fame via Stanley Tucci's CNN series "Searching for Italy" it drew us, like many Americans, to its doors hoping to experience the same orgasmic reactions that Mr. Tucci had on his visit there. We had just finished our week on the Amalfi coast and were staying in Sorrento before heading to Ischia, Naples, Milan, and Venice. We've had some life changing meals here.I'm Italian American and was born in San Francisco, so I know my fair share when it comes to seafood. And like many of you, at 62, I've had many wonderful meals around the world. The food was served either cold or lukewarm, no seasoning at all. Bland pasta, deep fried veggies, poor service, and all the charm of a busy Red Lobster on a Sunday afternoon. And all this after a 45 minute drive in either direction dodging vespas and FIATS on winding roads that made me yearn for Lombard street back home. Seriously, do yourself a favor and avoid this hash house.Addendum: we are at the Naples central train station at a trattoria called Fresco. For 40.00 euro much better food, ambiance, and service.
Be the first to ReplyWhile the food was outstanding, the service was very poor.
The head waiter was arrogant and not attentive. First, he lied to us about not having wine by the glass. We ended up with a bottle of wine we would not have otherwise bought. They missed one of our entrees, and it didn't come until everyone else had finished. When we asked for the check, we had to keep asking and we were rudely told when pressed again "he would be there in a minute". When he did bring it and I was reluctant to tip much, he said we must be from England, I wonder if there was an underlying attitude toward the english!!
Be the first to ReplyService stinks.
25 mins past reservation to get seated. 20 mins to bring bread. Had to ask them to bring water/let me order. Place sucks, go to some hole in the wall family restaurant instead. Food wasn't something I couldn't find somewhere else 95% of tables don't have a "view" anyway. Asked 3 times for the bill.Moral of the story, all you're going to do here is get upset. Don't do that to yourself on vacation.
Be the first to ReplyEasily one of the best meals I have ever had.
It's not easy to get here, but it's worth the trip!!
Be the first to ReplyWow - fantastic find in by Positano.
It is quite a drive to get out here but so worth the trip. The entire restaurant juts out into the sea, with most of the dining in an outside terrace. Eating seafood by the seaside, with the beach on both sides of you was an amazing experience.Menu is pretty reasonably priced - definitely expensive but good value for what you get. They have a ton of seafood selections including a lot of fresh or local catches. The menu has a farm to table vibe and we saw a lot of other tables who ordered fish get shown their fishes before cooking. Seriously don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. The pastas are absolutely amazing and some of the seafood platters offer a lot of great variety. Service was friendly and the pace was relaxed. Call ahead to make a reservation and spend a few hours here enjoying the seafood and seaside. Absolutely worth the drive.
Be the first to ReplyVery good place.
.. possibly the best meal in Italy. Try the sea urchin speghetti and the salad. The beach is fantastic. Very nice service and the sea is breathtaking.
Be the first to ReplyLo Scoglio is a wonderful restaurant on the water midway
Lo Scoglio is a wonderful restaurant on the water midway between Positano and Capri on the Sorrento Peninsula near the town of Nerano. On stilts jutting out into the water with awesome views. Being on the water the seafood is amazing. The Spaghetti alla Nerano is also a must do (they have a raviolo version which is great). A must do when in the area.

Possibly my favorite meal of my two week trip to Italy-- we came to Lo Scoglio by boat from Amalfi for lunch. The seafood is FRESH (and I mean we watched them catch our lobster after we ordered) but so is everything else! They are farm to table so the veggies were also quite delicious. We ordered several things to share - my favorite was the lobster linguine, and zucchini pasta (Delicious!)
Be the first to ReplyWe came to this restaurant by a boat, as many others do.
There is a huge tank with lobsters and all kind of fish in the middle, we can experience a guy take out of lobster and amuse kids at the restaurant. I ordered seafood on ice which had fresh clam and sea urchins. It was so good, sea urchin was quite different than one I'm used to, but now I got the taste down. I had pasta with seafood and it was simple but perfectly seasoned, just about right. My BF ordered Tunar tartar which was fresh but nothing special. He ordered pasta with zucchini which was a signature dish and it didn't disappoint us. It was very tasty and definitely should try. We shared lemon cake which was excellent, not too sweat and very light. From a food point of view, it was 4 star but my BF insisted 5 star from the people watching point of view. Beautiful people beautifully dressed all around, surprised that the restaurant let us sit down :)
