We visited this restaurant as a first table deal, which was great.
Our table at Lombardi had lovely views over the Lake. Service was okay, enthusiastic, but she did seem a bit new. We were offered Bluff Oysters which I had, $5 each or 6 for $25 which is reasonable, and my wife had the scallops as an entree. She is gluten sensitive meaning that too much disagrees with her, but not coeliac, so e.g. sauces are okay. For mains I had the venison and my wife lamb with polenta and ratatouille. Since my main had few carbs, we also had truffled chips. Dessert was trio of sorbets for me and lemon yuzu tart (gluten free). The scallops were not to my taste, as the salty bacon foam they were with seemed to overpower the delicate flavour of the scallops. My oysters were the usual fresh bluff oysters and the dipping sauce was nice. The venison was delicious, perfectly cooked and the sides went well. My wife loved her lamb and the creamy polenta was exceptional. The chips were great. My wife loved the yuzu ``tart'' which I had a bit of and can affirm that it is a lovely choice. I found my small serving of sorbets was fresh and well-prepared. I had a glass of Amisfield Riesling ($13) with the oysters and we had a bottle of Amisfield Pinot (listed as 2017 on the wine list, but 2018 came out-$99-when questioned I was offered the wine list again) with the rest. Both wines up to their usual standards. The wine list is good and has the usual large Queenstown markups. For example, a Roaring Meg Pinot is listed at $72. Strangely, they did not allow a first table discount for the oysters as (if I understood correctly) they were discounted at $25 (not could we pay $30 and then get half off). The hotel allows free parking under the hotel, which is great. I did not have the signature lasagne, but did see others tucking into it with gusto. All in all a nice night, as I would go again.
