Menya Ultra San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Everithing is wonderful! Staff we're very attentive.
Tha space is a little small and there is only a single restroom. But all in all the food is great. Would recommend it
So good!! Best ramen I've had.
Worth the visit for sure. Service was great. Recommend it.
I've been coming to this location since it first opened up
I've been coming to this location since it first opened up when I was young. They were undoubtedly the most delicious and unmatched ramen establishment in the city. It was just no contest and the hype was completely justified during it's glory days Since covid I've seen a steady decline in the quality of this ramen. It's still aesthetically beautiful to look at, but the chashu has seen a drop in its texture quality, the seasoned eggs are now bland, and the broth isn't as rich as I remember. Noodles are still extremely high quality but it's the only thing I look forward to now when I go. I'm not sure if covid hit this place harder than I thought, but I miss when the ingredients were treated with the utmost care. The staff are always kind and efficient and I really do hope for the best for this place. I will visit less frequently, but it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Service was very kind! Every staff member I met was welcoming and happy to help, but they are very busy and going as fast and careful as they can so please be patient and understanding with them. I previously had the spicy miso ramen level 2 and it was an enjoyable level of spice. I would not personally recommend the level 3 because the broth did not become more spicy but it became more oily and tasted flavorless (?). The corn and pork also did not taste the best. The fried chicken was good, but was also very salty with very strong lingering umami taste. One piece of chicken was a good size. I appreciate and like the online waitlist system. They are very organized for being as busy as they are.

I m used to be a fan of Miso spicy ramen here because it was really good, but they changed their style by using oils chilies ball instead of dry chilies flake. It make the soup too oily now! Hope they bring back their old style

Always a solid place for ramen cravings! Menya Ultra is well-known for its ramen from the Michelin guide, and its reputation is deserved. It is so delicious! The Tonkotsu ramen is flavored well, and you can adjust the sodium if you prefer. My order is the Tonkotsu Ajitama with no bean sprouts. There is also no MSG in their food, which is greatly appreciated because I'm extremely sensitive to it. The egg was so flavorful and a nice soft boil, and the broth is soo good. There is a long wait at times but you can join early with the Yelp app! Service is also very friendly! Can be a bit noisy.
Very yummy food and very recommended.
Get extra ajitama (season egg). Satisfied my hunger. The service is always fast. If you plan to dine in, you need to book the seat, get confirmation, after the host welcomes you, and makes you order right away. They offer 'join member' too...... I wish can get free bowl one day.

Very disappointed that there were no bean sprouts as the menu and picture shows is supposed to be included in the Tonkatsu

It's been a while since I have been to Menya--the wait and parking are terrible. I met some friends who wanted ramen. I join waitlist on the way over and the wait was about 30-40 mins on a Tuesday night. Food was good and service very quick. I like the kaarage, but ask for spicy mayo to give it a pinch more flavor. I used some giftcards I received as a gift. They add 18% gratuity when you use a giftcard which I think is fine since I would have tipped the same or more. Overall good food, fast service, but parking can still be difficult on a busy weekend.

Definitely satisfied my ramen craving! Got the spicy miso ramen which was very flavorful. I think it was a little too salty for my taste but still delicious!
Menya Ultra used to be my favorite ramen spot of all time,
Menya Ultra used to be my favorite ramen spot of all time, but long story short, I believe the quality has gone down as of recent. The noodles and other toppings are all good, but the broth has went down in quality. My go-to is the Ajitama (Tonkotsu) Ramen with corn. The broth used to have a very rich flavor without being too much to the point where it is nauseating. Now, however, the broth is less flavorful while the prices have increased. To me what made Menya special was the great quality of the noodles and the broth. While the noodles are still good, the broth being less flavorful is a dealbreaker for me, so I can no longer recommend it. The service is usually good, but the last time I went, it was just okay. The servers gave us everything we need but I felt like they were not as welcoming as usual. One of the waiters especially, gave us what we asked for but was not very responsive. I don't find this to be a dealbreaker though since we did come close to closing, but we did leave before it actually closed. The ambiance is fine, typical of a ramen restaurant. The noise is average, but not quiet. There is a two hour limit for dining. Overall, the worsened quality of the food will prevent me from coming back to what was once my go-to ramen spot. I do hope the quality improves to what it once was in the future.
Boy is their ramen killer.
I got the black bean one. Some of the best I've had in San Diego. Incredibly rich and well-balanced. You've probably heard a lot about this place, and for good reason. It's comparable to how good Raki Raki was 10 years ago

First off, service is courteous at the same time being efficient in bringing in customers inside due to long lines at times. The ambiance of the place is casual. Food is AH-MAZING. My boyfriend and I love this place. Broth is rich in taste. Love the chashu. It's the best ramen in San Diego.

As someone who doesn't eat pork my options here are very limited so i can only speak to that. Assuming this place ranks so high due to the pork broth options. My vegan ramen was mediocre and there weren't many options to jazz it up
So I FINALLY had a chance to visit the famous MENYA ULTRA
So I FINALLY had a chance to visit the famous MENYA ULTRA & let me say, I WILL BE RETURNING! I got there at 10:40 in the morning, yelp didn't let me join the waitlist early so I just pulled up before they opened at 11 (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) by the time I got there and checked in I was already 8th in line. Restaurant opens and the staff starts to call tables, very quick for how busy this place gets. As you walk in you're greeted with a "welcome!" "Yay!" By the staff which is so cute! You get seated and a sheet of paper is placed in front of you to order, which the waiters pick up themselves. Food was coming out quick! Everything was so good and smelled amazing, definitely recommend! I will say this, before you swipe your card verify that the amount they hold on the machine to pay is the same on your receipt! I almost got charged a little extra if I wasn't paying attention. All together for 1 person I spent $24.19 Sprite- $2.45 Gyoza 3p- $ 4.00 Spicy miso lvl 1- $16.00
Seriously one of her best ramen places in San Diego.
I've tried all the Ramen here and it really just depends on your preference if you want an original Tonkotsu ramen or something a little more extra like their Tantanmen with Paiko. You also have to add butter and egg (trust me). This would have been a 5 start but they literally charge you for using a gift card. I've never heard of this before and I asked about it and that's "just their policy." They also don't tell you prior to ordering so you try to use up what you have on your gift card and then automatically get charged 18% for using a gift card but wait, there's also a place to write a tip WTF! Seriously best Ramen but be ready for you gift card users. Check the picture if you want proof of the gift card surcharge.
The ramen is very rich and delicious! Service is friendly
The ramen is very rich and delicious! Service is friendly and quick! The restaurant gets busy quickly, but the wait-list opens 30 mins before they open. Great for a casual quick meal. Will be back soon. Shoutout to Steven for the recommendation. We tried the Tantan Men, Spicy Miso Ramen, and their special fried chicken. Yum!!
