Ray's on the River Atlanta Reviews from The Last Year
Jarvis is the best waiter!!
Jarvis waited our table and it was a party of 9. He did an EXCELLENT job. He was patient, knowledgeable, attentive, made a great recommendation for my meal, very cool, and kind. I would 100% come back based on his service alone. The food was also very good. I highly recommend the mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. The creamed spinach was my least favorite but it wasn’t terrible.
I have officially given up on Rays of the River.
The experience was disappointing to say the least. The staff appeared to be disorganized and unfriendly, with noticeable tension among them. Our order took an incredibly long time, our appetizers were forgotten, and even after requesting additional chips, they were never brought to us. Despite being a long-time patron, I have noticed a significant decline in the quality of service and food over the years. I attempted to give them the benefit of the doubt multiple times before leaving this review, but each visit only reinforced my dissatisfaction. It's a shame, considering I live in the area. Overall, a very disappointing experience.
David was amazing!!
David was our sever and he was amazing!! Go check them out!!! The food was great! I loved the atmosphere looking over the river.
Excellent experience paired with well above average food
David was our waiter and was excellent, both with his suggestions and his timing. Rays is a special occasion or nice meal out go to restaurant for, excellent food. David helped make it aa great experience. His recommendation fjr the main course - surf and turf, and the butter cake desert were spot on We will be back, and will ask to be at David’s table
Address errors early, No matter how crowded they ar
One couple charged twice for the same meal. Perhaps I should pay closer attention to what is being charged. This is not a place I plan to revisit
TripAdvisor rates it #3 with a score of 4.
5 out of more than 1800 restaurants in the Atlanta area. For the cost conscious and value minded, they are up front about the typical price range running from $20 to $46. With this in mind add desert and that could potentially raise the price to about $60. I imagine having a set menu for special days like valentine's day allows a restaurant to focus on but a few items to accommodate as many guests as possible. With an advertised meal calculated at $60 per person, a Fixede Menu price of $120 for this special day is not that far off. Since both the salad and main course each state choose two, one could easily get the understanding that the price was for two people. I even went back afterwards to review the menu. I could not find where the price was per person. After all, that would be twice the normal price of $60. If the meal included two items, then we are each short one item (as displayed on the receipt), or a refund of over charging. Besides the price gouging for a special day my largest issue with this upscale restaurant was the shoddy service. There were two couples seated, and we were seated between them. One couple had placed their order and we witnessed the other placing theirs. That both were served prior to us was not surprising. What was surprising was that both were served prior to our order being taken. Yet a third couple was seated, order taken and they too were served prior to us. The initial server rarely showed again. One of the extras (not the young lady that took our order) actually brought out our food. The original server did in fact return after our meal was served with my wife's drink. Drinks were ordered before the main meal. The meal itself was wonderful. The service was subpar based on reviews of the establishment. I'm not sure if the pricing was intentionally misleading, the description was misunderstood, or if there was an error in ringing up the meal. Our server seamed to have abandoned us as we had to flag down another server to retrieve the bill as well as to check out. This is not the service or experience we expected.
Amazing place to eat out on the river.
I always enjoy coming to this place for birthdays or any good events.. I recommend this location for anybody my friends and family
We went for our ten year anniversary.
It was amazing. The service was great, they gave us a card and complimentary champagne to go along with our meal. The lamb and steak was amazing along with their sides. And the ambiance was very great it felt like we were the only ones in the room.
Food was sub-par.
We were celebrating an anniversary to start and notified the restaurant of this when we booked the reservation. Most places acknowledge that but they didn't. We ordered all at once for everything. I got a peach margarita (peach where?? cause it wasn't t a spit of peach in it to be found...more like a classic margarita) $16 for maybe 6oz of a drink including the ice in it 4/10. For an appetizer we ordered the pork belly 10/10 and for dinner we ordered the Salmon Oscar 4/10 and the NewYork Strip steak with Shrimp in a New Orleans seasoned sauce 1/10. And we had the shareable sides of Mac and cheese 5/10 and mashed potatoes 10/10. I highly recommend the pork belly, super flavorful. I would get that again but I don't plan to return. Let me say I should have stuck with my gut and not ordered New York strip steak, it was one of the toughest cuts of steak I've had in my life. I usually dont order NewYork strip, I'm a ribeye kinda girl but I saw it came with shrimp and I kinda wanted the best of both worlds. And the steak was priced at a little under $60 so I assumed it would be pretty decent. WRONG. Dry and tough with no flavor. And I asked for medium steak. I don't think they know their temperatures very well. I asked for a medium steak....it comes well done, more on the medium well side I guess if I was trying to be lenient and nice but still not what I asked for...sent it back and got the filet, temperature still wrong. We sat on the patio, which most people chose as well considering it was a nice day out. But there was only 1 person servicing everyone. So the waits were super long and there was no follow up about our meals. We had to flag people down to get help with our food. No refills on our drinks. The Salmon tasted like the water it was pulled from. The only thing that saved it was the sauce that comes with it. Mac and cheese lacked flavor and salt especially. The mashed potatoes were AMAZING. I enjoyed that over my main course. How sad is that??? It just wasn't a good experience. Ended up paying almost $200 with tip for an experience that should have been better. You could have a better dining experience and more flavorful food at Stoney Rivers which is about 10 mins away from this place. I'm so disappointed. Don't think I would recommend this place. The place looks nice inside tho and offers a place outside overlooking the river, good for photos. That's a plus. Other than that, save your money.
Went there for lunch after my daughter's graduation from
Went there for lunch after my daughter's graduation from UGA. Hopefully dinner time is better because lunch time was not the best. The lunch menu compared to the dinner menu is limited. When I called 2 weeks before I was told they couldn't accommodate a party of 11 all together in the party room so we had to make 2 separate reservations. Though they did sit both groups together, I noticed that the party room was not occupied. In fact the restaurant wasn't crowded. The waitress was a bit slow. She introduced herself & her assistant, but we never saw the assistant after the introduction. She was working by herself and it took a while for her to refill out drinks. The food was ok. The corn crème brûlée was a little watery & not hot when we received it. The shrimp cocktail & mother clucker sandwich was good. The crab cakes were good. The waitress couldn't tell us if the rice was cooked with/without butter. She said some chefs cook it with & some cook it without butter she didn't know which chef cooked it for that day. This is a problem because we had a vegan in our party and it was important that she knows how good it cooked. The Caesar salad w/salmon was ok. The lettuce was not the freshest. I was a little disappointed because this location had been highly recommended. Maybe it is better at dinner time. I'll try it one more time.
first visit here ever to celebrate a birthday.
we ate outside. not too hot or cold. the service could have been better for such a high scale restaurant. our waiter was pretty unattentive. he came out and asked if we were celebrating anything, and the birthday card and note from the restaurant were on the table. pretty disappointed with that. we saw him at the beginning, when the food came out, and for the check. wasn't around to tell him the spinach was salty and not edible, and the lobster mac was dry and almost day old tasting. my steak was great. spent alot of money and could've received better service at chic filet.
Great 41st anniversary experience!
David and Aaron made our dining experience exceptional with their food and wine suggestions! Extremely knowledgeable and courteous! Will be back!

On a preview trip ahead of a temporary move to Atlanta and it happened to be an anniversary, so we wanted to celebrate. At the last minute I changed from another restaurant to Ray's on the River and what a great move that turned out to be! The service and atmosphere was divine. Our server, Ryan, was phenomenal with a great attitude, great suggestions, and very accommodating to any/all of our requests being newbies. He even went outside with us to take a great picture with the river as the backdrop. The Maytag Martini and the Fig Old Fashion was a delight as was the wines to follow with dinner! The Crispy Calamari was tender as it should be. My Filet and my wife's shrimp/scallops were delicious, and the Corn Creme Brulee cannot be missed! So decadent and so good! While we were splurging on food, we finished everything off with a Creme Brule and a Ray's Signature Praline Basket, both divine! We spent time talking with one of the managers, Bryson, who was so helpful in giving us some tips and tricks on the Atlanta area given our pending move. Yes, while not part of the food/dining experience, when combined with Ryan's service, it all show's Ray's commitment to the customer. Guess who's going to Ray's again when we get to Atlanta! And there are two other locations to experience!
Tasty food but quality was lacking and price was too high.
My wife and I visited Ray’s On The River on May 5, 2024 for brunch. I had visited before but this was my wife’s first visit. The experience was not what I expected and I told the staff about it during our meal. I ordered brisket hash and the majority of the meat was fat. I pointed it out to my waiter and he brought out a larger serving of meat which I appreciated but still lots of fat. I realize brisket has fat and that makes it taste good but the percentage of fat was unacceptable. My wife’s lobster omelet had very little lobster for the cost (about a tablespoon of minced lobster). The rest of my meal was tasty but the prices they charge are very high - which is indicative of the current economy I guess. We won’t be visiting Ray’s again.
95th Birthday celebration.
The service is amazing. Tangey went out of her way to serve and celebrate us. She is friendly, efficient while also professional and knowledgeable !

A great time was had at Ray's last night! The food was unbelievable! Service was superior, Shout out to Miles who took great care of us. He met our every need! The food and service were both unmatched although I'm not surprised as this is the case every time we visit Ray's. Can't wait for our next visit!!

We spent our one year anniversary here tonight and had the best time. The food was delicious! The steak and shrimp was very tasty; I enjoy my steaks blue and they cooked it perfectly with a nice crust and very raw inside. The lychee martini was dangerously flavorful! The seafood platter was a wonderful assortment; My husband enjoyed the crab cakes the most! The creme brûlée was made to perfection. Our hostess', waiter and waitress all made a point to congratulate us and made us feel very special. Afterwards, we were able to enjoy the picturesque outdoor area and were able to get great photos. Thank you for such a memorable experience.
Awesomeness at its finest!
Awesome! David was impeccable! His service and menu suggestions were SPOT ON!!!! LOVED EVERYTHING! Will be back!!!! Food was fantastic. Service impeccable!
