Reel Aloha poke and fish co Kealakekua Reviews from The Last Year

This review is long overdue but I absolutely love Reel Aloha Poke and Fish co. They are a locally owned and operated business that not only provides the best customer service (shout out to Hoku!) but the most delicious fresh poke. It is super clean and easily accessible and even has an place to grab açaí next to it. This will forever be our favorite place to grab poke.

I'm a local boy from Maui, so when I came to Kona for a business trip, my first thought was...FRESH fish and poke. This is the place! Definitely a local spot that pleases both tourists and kama'aina. The service was friendly and welcoming, super cool setting and clean environment. But it's the POKE that steals the show. Fresh, well prepared, and a unique plate option I've never really experienced as a poke lover before. 5 STARS without a doubt.

RUN don't walk to this Poke shop! This was the best Poke we had on the island and I would maybe dare to say the best poke ever! Looks like a little mom and pop shop and they were so sweet and nice and let us try two different poke flavors before we ordered. Service was great and The poke was just epic and fresh and the price was awesome too! This is our only GO TO Poke shop now when we come on island. Im back on the mainland right now dreaming of my return in a month to come back! Lovely tasting sides also. 10/10 You will be happy in your belly!
So definitely one of *my* biggest goals for the Hawaii
So definitely one of *my* biggest goals for the Hawaii vacation that sadly ended a couple weeks ago was to try as many highly-rated poke places as I could. In this case, I was definitely less impressed. It was by no means *bad* - 2 sides and 2 poke choices for $19, a pretty good amount of each, seems pretty reasonable for Hawaii. They didn't have nearly as many choices as Honaunau, either for poke or for sides, though; I went with the avocado-based one (that one was pretty solid), and one that supposedly had fresh Hawaii-grown hot peppers in it, but didn't taste much like it, and mac salad and seaweed salad (both great, though Honaunau's seaweed salad was still a bit more flavorful). As seems typical on the big island, all the poke was a base of ahi, and the ahi was obviously fresh, though not the *most* flavorful ahi I'd have this trip (indeed, that may also have been at Honaunau, though there was other competition). It wasn't bad - but it was also not trimmed quite perfectly, I had to eat around a few small bits of gristle. (I'd give it 4 stars, other than for the slightly gristly fish.) I did like the view from the seating area, though. Was a great chill plate to sit and eat lunch. Convenient location if you're going coffee-tasting, too.
Great poke.
Got there late so limited selections but what we did get was fresh and tasted great.
Very fresh fish.
Great poke. As you enter the store, you'll see a counter with a see-through case where you can look at the available poke options for the day. We saw six of them, as well as six options for sides. But one poke option was already sold out around noon on a Friday. The location is clean, with simple decor and a marvelous view to the ocean. If you're lucky enough to come when that sitting area is available you can enjoy the view while you taste the delicious flavors of a poke bowl (one poke, one side and a scoop of rice) or poke plate (two pokes, two sides, two scoops of rice). The lady at the counter was nice and friendly. Definitely recommend stopping by for their poke and sides. And they also offer poi, a traditional local fermented taro food that is worth a try as well.
I've been here twice.
The first time was in 2021- the place was fairly new and small. Now I came back in December 2023 and the place had expanded! Lots of tables to dine in with a great view! My family of 6 stopped by and had poke bowls. I got the two choice with spicy and garlic. The two choice comes with rice, two pokes and two sides. My sides were Mac salad and kimchee. The service was friendly and there was no wait for our food. We came on a Sunday afternoon for lunch.
