SEOUL SALON NYC New York Reviews from The Last Year
This place had a unique vibe.
It was like an upscale pocha. A lot of the food was also street food but a bit more upgraded and fancier dishes. I ordered the Rose Tteokbokki with Gimmari and Seoul Salon Fried Chicken. The fried chicken wasn't anything special but the Rose Tteokbokki was really good. They did a good job with the sauce, making it with the right amount of (stracciatella) cheese and spice. I would definitely order this dish again next time. If you're looking for a casual dinner with good bar/street food with a more upscale vibe, this is a good place to go.
This place was really cool and very different from anywhere
This place was really cool and very different from anywhere else I've been. The staff was super nice and knew how to recommend dishes not just based on flavor but also portion size. It has a very club-like vibe inside without being too loud. The food was amazing--every bite was loved. I recommend coming in with friends so you can eat family-style and try more dishes. Be warned though, the food is really spicy, so if that's not your thing, this place might not be for you.The only thing that made this a 4 instead of a 5 was the octopus fried rice. While it was delicious, it had little to no octopus in it, which was disappointing.
Wow, I am absolutely blown away.
This restaurant is chic and trendy, with modern interior design. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, and overall the dining experience was amazing. Soy scallop with gim rice: the scallop was delicious, mixed with rice and egg yolk Spicy raw crab noodles: a classic, it's quite spicy but I loved the flavor. After you squeeze our the crab meat (they give you gloves), it goes so well mixed with the noodles (pretty big portion) Mala pork belly: the meat is so tender it melts in your mouth! I loved the sauces in this dish, it really brought everything together Spicy octopus with bori risotto: you just can't go wrong with the seafood here, the octopus was perfectly cooked They also give you a complimentary ramen snack to start. The prices are a bit high, but that's to be expected in Ktown. Overall I definitely recommend!

The scallops were so yummy with a good amount of rice and seaweed. The food came out relatively fast as well and the waitress was quick to help us whenever we needed. It's just a little dark inside but I think it fits the vibe that they are going for.
Had to come and update my review after sitting at the bar
Had to come and update my review after sitting at the bar b/c the cocktails here are SO yummy and you can still order most of the dishes here (while the vice versa is not allowed; you are not allowed to order the bar menu drinks at dining tables). I ended up staying here for hours with my friend and we already booked our resy to come back next week. The bartenders here are also very friendly and fun, which just adds to the experience so I highly recommend booking a bar seat! Recommended Food: Cuttlefish Sukhwe, Soy Scallop with Gim Rice, Mala Pork Belly, Fried Sweet Potato Recommended Drinks: Hangang Blues, Hocance, Golden Ration
I've never been to Atoboy, but hearing that it's a good
I've never been to Atoboy, but hearing that it's a good restaurant and the team behind Atoboy is also behind Seoul Salon? I wanted to see what the hype was about. An old college friend wanted to try it out too so we went. We were on line right when the place opened and were seated immediately for our reservation. Service is quick and friendly and the ambiance is hip and caters to a younger crowd. This is the place you take your friend if you're bougie but don't wanna sacrifice your whole wallet. The only thing we wish we knew was that the drinks at the bar are only served at the bar. We were going to order drinks off the bar menu but there is a separate menu for dinner cocktails. This setup isn't unheard of but it was a little disappointing. My friend and I, instead, ordered the Green Light cocktail and a Goodbye Sadness cocktail. The cocktails were good but the Green Light veered on the sweeter side. We also ordered a round of Urban Tropic Cocktails but I think the waitress misheard and gave us both gin and tonics (not a bad mistake because the g&t's were good). For food, we enjoyed the Soy Scallop with Gim Rice which was a decent portion with meaty scallops. While it was good, it wasn't something I haven't had before. The Grilled Tteokgalbi was unique and had pieces of rice cake in the meat for a bouncy texture contrast with the tender meat. The smell when it came out was divine and you can taste the smokiness. Lastly, we had the Cuttlefish Sukhwe which was light and refreshing. It was more texture than it was taste so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for something more flavorful. While certain dishes were a hit or miss, the portion sizes and drinks made everything worth it for the price. Overall, not bad but not amazing.
Generally thought the food was fine.
Nothing crazy or mindblowing but not worth the cost.

Came here and ordered WAY too much food, but it was still tasty as leftovers, which is how you know it's good. The servers were really attentive and were quick to help us out, and the decor in the spot is really nice. It's a casual date night spot for sure. Heard about this spot from a couple of friends who are very into Korean food, and I knew I had to give it a try. We got the fried chicken, fried sweet potato, soy scallop gim, rose ttoekbokki, and the octopus risotto (between two people), and it was definitely too much. Maybe 3-4 people's worth of food. I thought the risotto was the highlight, with a great spicy flavor, and the gochujang really comes through. The risotto was also well cooked, with a firm bite that compliments the creamy sauce. The octopus was tender and really easy to eat, and that dish was definitely crushable. The soy scallop was also great, but there's definitely a fair bit of sesame oil and seaweed in the rice, which is tasty but does feel like a cheat way to make things taste good. The scallops were nice and sweet though. Nothing too crazy with the rest of the dishes. They were all tasty, but didn't blow me away here. The drinks were fine. We got the sundown dance and green light, and of these, the green light was definitely better. I'd say the drinks are fine, but nothing special and not necessary to enjoy the meal.
I liked Seoul Salon more than I expected! I had heard a lot
I liked Seoul Salon more than I expected! I had heard a lot of mixed reviews but I thought the decor and ambiance were creative and fun. The food that we got were also great and the portions were bigger than expected. The scallop with rice and yolk was delicious with a great combination of sesame and seaweed flavors. We also got the cold marinated crab noodle dish. It was a bit inconvenient to have to take out the crab meat ourself but the dish was still good mixed with the noodles. It is definitely on the expensive side but I think the portions made it worth it. We even had leftovers in the end after getting two dishes for two people. There are maybe a couple of other things I'd like to try on the menu so I'll be back!
RATING: 6.
5/10 So I have mixed feelings about this place. TLDR is come here for drinks, expect less from the food, and if you do order food, choose wisely. DRINKS - Green Light - which was enjoyable, had a nice sour and sweetness to it and the other drink my friend ordered was tasty too - well crafted with Korean-inspired flavors. Would def come back here just for drinks and love to see authentic Korean ingredients make their way into modern creations. Ambience is great, and it's spacious enough where you don't feel like you're on top of the table next to you. FOOD - Wagyu and Bulgogi - this patty of mixed meat was probs the worst one, even though we had high hopes because of the Wagyu. It had pieces of rice cake/mochi interspersed within the meat so you got this heterogeneous texture experience that was too stark of a contrast from one to the next - the chewy nuggets of rice cake stand out and take longer to chew than the meat and it just wasn't all that well seasoned, savory, or deep in flavor. Tasted like a basic burger patty to me :/ BEEF TARTARE - this was actually enjoyed, and had a nice level of heat running through it, with crunch coming from the toppings. Really cool concept of beef tartare but make it Korean. This was good. FRIED CHICKEN - also enjoyable but nothing necessarily to write home about. Tender chicken, spicy and sweet, nice crisp on it... Good. Wanted to get the octopus risotto which I heard good things about. Maybe that would be a better call
Everything here was amazing.
Food, drinks, service, ambience.. Fyi. There are different drinks offered in the bar area than at table service

Made a reservation here on a weekend night with a party of 7. We ordered a bunch of dishes (not all shown). We were surprised that all of them were quite spicy, a little too much for our liking. However the dishes themselves were good, portions definitely on the smaller side but it's Manhattan so that's pretty typical. We also got their rice wine to share which was not too bad but also not amazing. The service was definitely great and they were patient and friendly. Overall great place to check out but keep in mind everything is on the spicier side!
this place completely changed my mind about marinated raw
this place completely changed my mind about marinated raw crab! i've had it once before at another ktown restaurant, but i was really not a fan (i thought it was too gamey). however this dish is SO GOOD at seoul salon--definitely give it a try if you can handle spicy food! i also had the raw scallops which were very fresh. they have amazing raw seafood options but i unfortunately did not get a chance to try any of the other menu options. next time!

Came here on a weeknight right when they opened! We made a reservation; however, it wasn't too busy at this time and we probably could have walked in. Soy scallop with gim rice is to die for! It was the perfect appetizer for a refreshing start. The fried dubu with kimchee was also so good. The crispy outer layer of the dubu paired so perfectly with the sour and spicy kimchee. The spicy octopus with risotto was also very good but SOOO SPICY! They have a jokbal special and it was so delicious. Waitstaff are really nice and attentive! Decor was also quite interesting and looked a lot of fun especially as a place to grab drinks with friends!
The free ramyum with chili sauce was pretty good Scallop
The free ramyum with chili sauce was pretty good Scallop and rice: 7.8/10, was very fresh but the scallops need more salt for the flavor to come thru or some depth in flavor Spicy crab: 8.4/10 really really fresh crab and really tasty. A tad too spicy for me but still very good The soba noodles were nice texture Tteokgalbi: 7.4/10 good mixture of meat, flavor was nice but kinda one dimensional Rose tteokbokki: 8.6/10 rice cake texture every good, the basil was an interesting touch, the twigim was MVP of the night Green light (drink): (no score cause I don't really drink) but I thought it was pretty good, the smell is worse than the taste haha Banana shaved milk ice: 8.1/10 very refreshing and light, good ending tons heavy meal, the nuts were a nice touch

4.5/5 Raw Crab with Noodles 4/5 Spicy Octopus with Risotto 4.5/5 Goodbye Sadness 4/5 Green Light 3/5 Rice Martini Definitely recommend a reservation if you decide to come, we made one earlier the same day (Friday night), and was promptly seated when we arrived. Music definitely on the louder side as well. Service was good for how busy it was at dinner time.
my friend really enjoyed her scallop bowl she would return
my friend really enjoyed her scallop bowl she would return to nyc for it 10 stars for her. however for drinks, I forgot the name but to describe the taste it would be like a melted melona ice cream got all over your brand new leather car and you had it lick it up after your hmart run on a hot summer day lol... interesting flavor profile but not sure how I feel. presentation with the giant ice cube was cool tho

Kind of a hard door/entrance to find but once you're in, you'll love the vibes! I like that they gave you a physical menu but also had the online menu, which was well made with nice pictures for each dish. A lot of the dishes are with seafood so keep that in mind. The portion size was decent but none of the dishes amazed me. The grilled tteokgalbi was my fav dish but it was too small for its price. The smoky show that they put before revealing the dish was really fun and cool to put on your social media~ Love the vibes and the music they play here tho! Staff is also very friendly.
We were able to make a same day reservation on the weekend
We were able to make a same day reservation on the weekend and were seated immediately when we arrived. Overall the service was attentive and the interior was spacious. My friend and I got a few items to share and the soy scallop with gim rice was definitely my favorite with a unique flavor! The clams were large, but too chewy. The soup was good but unexpectedly spicy. The grilled tteokgalbi was okay and had rice cakes in it. If I go back I would get the soy scallop again and then try other items on the menu.
had a reservation for 2 at 5:30pm here! i love the vibes
had a reservation for 2 at 5:30pm here! i love the vibes here, casual hippy & chill. good choice in music for drinks, we got green light (cocktail) and like a virgin (non-alchoholic). for the table, we got fried sweet potato, rose tteokbokki with gimmari and spicy raw crab noodles. fried sweet potato - 5/5 - i saw the menu online the night before and knew i wanted to get this. its got the crunchy a s m r for those that likes the crispy crunchy texture. comes with honey and sour cream as dipping sauce. perfect combination because the kimchi seasoning makes it spicy especially when it comes out fresh hot!! be careful not to burn your mouth from the heat from the excitement of biting into this crunchy potato. rose tteokbokki with gimmari - 5/5 - if you like rose tteokbokki, don't miss out on this creamy goodness. the gimmari is crispy perfection dunked into the rose sauce. my friend bought her lactaid pills with her just for this!! for the lactose-intolerant friends, definitely bring your lactaid pills to enjoy this dish! spicy raw crab noodles - 1/5 - this was the dish that attracted my friend to want to come here. sad to say it didn't live up to expectations. the noodles are fine by itself, the spicy marinated crab though... it was not hitting the spot. i had soy marinated crab elsewhere before and those were good so i was hopeful of the raw marinated crab here. this one was not good.. hopefully it was just an off day..! we both thoroughly enjoyed the experience here. in terms of preferences, the fried sweet potato was the best for me followed by the rose tteokbokki and then the spicy raw crab noodles. my friend much preferred the rose tteokbokki over the fried sweet potato and lastly the spicy raw crab noodles. overall, would we come again? yes, we would love to! but we probably just won't get the spicy raw crab noodles again. thanks for having us, will definitely be telling other friends to visit
Amazing
The restaurant was lovely, very quaint and very busy. The Kimchi fried rice and fried chicken wings were absolutely divine.
Head to the main thorough way to K town at 32nd and 5th Avenue.
So many food options. Five Senses is always a good spot, K Town Pocha for some spicy Tteokbokki, spicy tuna and everything Kimbaps from the Food Gallery at the Gochujang kiosks are always yummy. Her Name is Han is a decent spot, along with other popular spots, but expect to wait for a good half hour to an hour. Most places don’t have a lot of seating.
