Sun Nong Dan San Gabriel Reviews from The Last Year

i usually come here for the tofu pot but this time decided to try something new and different from their menu - their cheese filled pork katsu curry. it was very flavorful and delicious + the portion of this dish is very generous and shareable. i love how the rice separates the curry sauce from the katsu, this way keeping the katsu still crispy and fresh!
Flame on! I love the flaming beef ox tail and soups.
The service is fast and great. And the ambiance is alive for large groups.

My son took me here for pre Mother's Day dinner since he knew I always wanted to try this place out. Everything was delicious and service was friendly. A plus for staying open very late.
Love this place.
Whenever we get a craving for Korean, we go to this place. Yangji and gugbap are our go-tos. The morning specials are so clutch on mornings after a night out. I think the service is usually spot on. We have always been seated promptly and orders are out within minutes. Be careful in the parking lot especially during major rush hours... on three separate occasions, we have seen traffic accidents in the lot because of terrible driving!

I love Korean barbecue, and I recommend passing up some of the bigger chain restaurants in favor of these smaller, local boutique places. They have all the ambience of real Korean barbecue and real Korean fair. Save a little bit of money save some of the wait time, and go to this place for some of the best Bulgogi you can possibly eat.

Whenever I don't know what to eat, I always go to Sun Nong Dan. I usually order beef brisket soup, or the clear beef bone soup. This time I got three soup for to go. But I found they only gave me one people's portion of side dishes. So I asked if they can give more, the staff told me no. I really don't understand why asking a reasonable side dish can be this hard.
Food was ok.
The Koh Galbi Jjim was enough though share between 3-4 people. The Teuk Galbi Tang was simple but was good. The side dishes were a bit in a sweeter side, glad it wasn't overly salty. The service was great and quick. Loud Korean music played, clean restaurant.

Imma get straight to the point if u go here and u ain't in the soup mood this is what you get -- the expensive ass shareable sizzling boiling pot of all sorts of different types of meat that will melt in your mouth layered with seasoned soft potatoes and carrots and onions and most importantly tteotboki and probably more stuff. Cheese is an add on and costs more but worth it! They said it feeds 2-3 ppl but nah there was 5 of us and we still didn't finish it!!! Split amongst 5 people it was like 25 bucks per person worth it! Restaurant is small but cozy and kinda transports you to a village I like it! Service was fast and so friendly totally worth it. Also not to be weird the dude with the tatted arm was hot.

Best Galbi Jjim in LA! More space at this location with easier parking. Cheese probably isn't necessary but hard to pass up the torch show.
A 24/7 goodness!!!!! What!!! That could be dangerous.
Prepare to spend because #25 is worth it. Great for groups because you have to share the dishes here. It is simply too enormous for just two, but because taste is great and ban Chan dishes are great as well, you see couples coming here to eat and share no matter the size. Busy weekend was a wait but they do their best making the wait go by fast. There's beer and soju available here to cleanse that palate from all the beef taste. There's too much to enjoy here!
Updated to 4 stars after trying the #2 Chadol Sulung Tang
Updated to 4 stars after trying the #2 Chadol Sulung Tang ($18.99), aka brisket ox bone soup. I don't usually like sulung tang/seolleongtang, but the version at Sun Nong Dan actually changed my mind. Their version is less thick, with a more flavorful bone stock. It came with the same thick-cut pieces of brisket found in their galbi tang. The meat was soft, with little pockets of meat surrounded by connective tissue. It was not as flavorful since the point of seolleongtang is to be healthier; you salt the soup to your preference at the table. However, the meat had more flavor the next day since I stored it with my leftover broth. The sulung tang came with thin wheat noodles by default. I prefer the glass noodles, which are chewy and umami. For $9.99, the extra meat came with a generous portion of brisket. However, the extra $2 for wheat noodles was not worth it to me. For my choice of rice, I usually get the brown rice (it's actually purple). Sometimes the rice is half-mushy. Other times, it's perfectly chewy. The saltiness of the banchan also varies; I feel like the radish one is too salty half the time. You usually only get pickled onion, kimchi, and radish kimchi, but one time we received a tasty chive kimchi. I wasn't imagining the toughness of the short rib in the galbi tang! When my friend ordered it, his hands shook as he applied enough pressure to remove the meat. I wish I could just get their galbi tang with brisket only.
Food was great.
Price was a bit high but the quality was commensurate to the price. We took the rest home and had more meals. Actually tasted better the second time around.
Always my late night go to never fails me.
Been to multiple locations and they remain consistent.
Delicious short ribs, a literal fire show, and open 24/7.
I came with a friend group of four and the Large Galbi Jjim was just the right amount for us. The place is usually super packed so we were lucky to have come during lunch time on a rainy day. My first time having this dish was at Sun Nong Dan and I've been to lots of locations ever since. I've been to Sun Nong Dan's after long vacations and long drives; it always meets the mark and hits the spot. This one in San Gabriel was especially great or maybe it just gets better every time! The Sung Nong Dan Galbi Jjim specialty comes with braised beef short ribs, back ribs, oxtail, rice cakes, peppers, potatoes, and carrots. It arrives in a large stone cauldron with cheese on top. A team member will light it up for you for a fun fire show using a blowtorch. The giant dish is paired with a unique sauce that's soy-based with onions, garlic, and chilies give the dish an extra kick! It's warm, hearty, and best enjoyed with great company and a big tummy to fill you up. I can't praise Galbi Jjim more - I love it so much! Sun Nong Dan is definitely a staple on my list of cozy, delicious Korean food. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a hearty meal at any time of day or night.

They're one of the very few restaurants open later than 9pm so not many choices for late diners! Their signature shareable beef short ribs/oxtails are a must - tried both spicy and regular - all good. The potatoes soak up all the flavors and decisions with very bite. Add extra rice cake for the fam. New item - dumpling rice cake and steamed are both delicious too! Generous with ban chans/ side dishes are a plus! That was enough for party of 6!

I was incredibly upset by how long it took for our meal to come out at SunNongDan restaurant. I've never experienced such a lengthy wait for food before, and it really affected my overall enjoyment of the dining experience.
Sun Nong Dan is known for their giant bubbling stone pots
Sun Nong Dan is known for their giant bubbling stone pots of braised beef short ribs. The inside is quite large and bustling with people. The restaurant is located in a busy plaza and parking can be a little difficult to find. We ordered the Koh Galbi Jjim, which included braised beef short ribs, back rib, and ox tail. We added cheese and rice cake as well. It's always such a show watching the dish come out and seeing them torch the top with the cheese melting. Super tender meat, and the potatoes, carrots, and onions were deliciously soft and flavorful. A little bit pricy, but we had more than enough for five people and made a meal out of it the next day (arguably tastier the next day as the flavors had marinated the meats and veggies even more). We also ordered the Mulmandu, or steamed dumpling, while we were waiting for the Galbi Jjim to come out. The perfect appetizer while we were waiting for the main dish, good flavor. Service was decent; a waiter came to refill our radish side dish without us even asking and stacked it to the top, which was really nice. Good experience and quite tasty! A SoCal staple.
Open 24 hours .
This restaurant is a must if you're hungry late at night and craving soup. They serve big portions at reasonable prices.

The staff here need a serious morale intervention from management because every one of them looked like they didn't want to be at work. No greetings. No smiles. No walking you to your seat. Serious panties in a bunch, butt-hurt attitudes written all over their faces. They got this smug resting bum face as if to say "don't bother asking me for anything because I'm about to give you hell and back for nothing..." I tried to be a kind, respectful consumer by smiling and greeting but was left with a cold vibe of "you don't belong here so don't bother" attitude. The table wasn't clean, so we had to clean it ourselves. They got our order wrong with the rice and never for a second thought to apologize and while we were dining did they ever bother to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. When i tried to wave a server to get his attention, he ignored me and did a complete 180 degree turn away, going the opposite direction. Our mandu that I felt like would have made a good appetizer, came way after the main course with the soups and galbi Jjim when we were already half way through with it... and Before i could even conceive of the idea of leaving this sorry service of an establishment....because mind you....i really felt like it....the server had the nerve to place the check in front me on the table ahead of time while we were still eating as if to rush us to leave when nobody is waiting for a seat and there were empty seats all around as if to say "you can't leave when you want to, but I'm telling you, we don't want your kind around...SO LEAVE!" When we asked for to-go boxes, the server comes with his dirty gloves to pick up our food as if to either trash our food or to perhaps do something with our food in the back (i have no idea what that could have been), so I had to chase him down to give my food back and let me pack it myself. He then proceeds to act stupid as if he didn't understand my instructions for one big box for the Galbi Jjim and gives me two small boxes to split it up. When we got through packing the food to-go, the server proceeds to take one our boxes of mandu away from as if we didn't want to keep what we ordered and I eventually had to demand that he give me my food back that i'm about to pay for...and without a care in the world, the server leaves in disrespectful fashion without bothering to give us plastic bags to go with our boxes so I literally had to do his job for him and grab my own to-go bags. When it came time to pay the bill, the server unapologetically comes up to me while im looking at the handheld POS which he preset to 25% tip and had the audacity to say to my face "is it too much?" As if to question my means when he really should be questioning what his service is worth!!! I could have been ugly and not tip him at all, but i decided to give a modest tip for their awful service. As we gathered ourselves to go, we were not met with any sort of customary goodbyes and come agains, but rather cold mean looks that leaves any customer feeling like this is the last time we'll ever be back. SND does not stand for "Sun Nong Dan" but rather "Service Not-worth-a Dam".

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
