Delicious again!!
Quick to seat us as walk ins. Nice quiet nook by the elevator. Great service. Shared fries to start with a yummy truffle sauce. Then had shrimp curry and poutine. Lots of good food! Not our first visit and we will be back!

Whilst over in Chicago on business a few new restaurants were tried The Gage being one of them. Situated in ‘The Loop’ it oozes atmosphere, was nice and busy which is always a good sign. It was the 17th annual ‘Chicago Restaurant Week’, a time where ‘prixe-fix’, fixed price menus are available in many eateries, The Gage had one. Suffice to say, the food was excellent, some raw fish done ceviche style really got the taste buds moving, adorned with some radish, onion, spicy chilli and pomegranate it was a brilliant starter. There was a lot of choice for mains, meat, fish which is my usual goto, this time I picked the Squash Agnolotti, a good test of the kitchen getting the pasta to the perfect thickness, properly seasoned filling and enough of it to balance the casing. It was another knockout dish, siting alongside sage breadcrumbs and basil butter, truly delish. I was full at this point so the dessert was shared with colleagues, a sharp lemon and meringue creation, a great palate cleaner to finish. The Gage was great, atmosphere, service and food spot on, comes well recommended. Worth a visit if you are in town.
Be the first to ReplyVery good pre show dining experience
Dined before a show at the auditorium theater. Participated in the restaurant week menu which was very good. Apple fennel salad was ok. Lamb biryani was very good. Our server was excellent. Very warm and accommodating, timing our meal perfectly for an on time departure. Her wine recommendation was also very good. Nice booth in corner and very good food and drinks made for an enjoyable evening.

First of all, service was fantastic - this review focuses on the food. Decent cocktails (martini in a desert cup not preferable but maybe they were short on glasses), fine apps, but the Coconut Curry was thick and soupy and filet had no taste and was chewy. Kitchen had a bad night in my opinion - maybe training? Loved the Gage in past and will try again but not for a while.

Great spot by Millennium Park. We dined here for lunch. Went with friends. Smallish menu. Good food. BYOB. They did NOT do Restaurant Week lunch menu on weekends. Very good service.

Cool location but like many places in Chicogo, overpriced. The place is small but nice. Staff very friendly and dressed to be expensive. So be prepared for expensive food and average quantity. Mixed drink was 2x more and half the size of anywhere else I have benn.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous location, classic decor, great menu, wonderful service!
Fabulous restaurant - great location, classic decor, great menu, and fabulous service. Even with the crowds around the holidays, we had hot food and great service! Love the seating areas with the fireplaces! Very cozy.

2d time here, 1st time for dinner, early reservation, 4 people. We got our appetizers (fried pickles-very good) before our drinks. Very dark booths, could not see menus or food. Chicken was dry, fried fish was excellent, fries over cooked. Ordered a $70 bottle of wine, waiter brought $120 bottle, and charged us $120, he was not very attentive overall. Disappointed!

The food was excellent. There was a special Irish fare on the menu for St Patrick's weekend. I had shoulder of lamb on creamy mash potatoes and my wife had Shepards pie. Both dishes were tasty and well presented. Service was also ace.

Popped in on the spur of the moment, and glad that we did. We really liked the layout as it is a room of many rooms, which cuts down on the overall noise and allows you to be able to hear what your dinner companion is saying. Food was good and we were able to get some salads to go for later. We'll certainly return when we're next in the city.

Stopped in as a single business traveler……no reservation. The hostess was very welcoming and immediately sat me at a very nice table……even though the restaurant was busy. I had the tuna tartare and burger. Both were healthy portions and delicious. I took my time, caught up on emails and relaxed before a busy set of meetings the following day. The staff could not have been friendlier and I never felt rushed. I would highly recommend the spot.

Came here at the end of December, hadn't booked it just purely took a chance on the reviews from google and I am so glad we did. Food was amazing, service was great and had a really lovely vibe to it. We were in a couple but I saw a few groups of families and friends, so I really do think this caters for all. The cobb salad was amazing and so were the mussels. Would definitely recommend

We were early for our reservation and sat at the bar before dinner. Taylor the bartender was friendly and personable and made an excellent drink. I described my preference and he made an excellent cocktail with the perfect flavor profile- elderflower, rose gin, lemon, sparkling wine. Delicious. We kept dinner simple- just an appetizer and a salad/burger for entrees. Appetizer was the melted brie with bread and roasted pears…to die for!!! Our waitress (I forgot her name) was lovely and ensured we left on time for our show. Overall great experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Restaurant on Michigan Avenue
Beautiful restaurant on Michigan Avenue across from Art Institute. Very attentive waiter. We were there for lunch. Nice variety on menu. I had the fish and chips, which were easily one of the best if not the best I have ever had! French fries were crispy and the fish was in a light batter, very flaky and no fishy taste! My husband had the rib eye steak sandwich which he said was very good also. Nice bar are too and one on the lower level too.
Be the first to ReplyA wonderful restaurant.
My wife and I went twice to this restaurant.
It is well located and as you enter you are greeted by wonderful staff who will arrange your seating.
Unfortunately, I did not remember the receptionist’s name but she arranged for exactly what we asked for, a quiet comfortable table.
The food and service was great, very friendly and yet still professional.
Oh yes, the toilets were the best I’ve ever had the need to visit.
Best of all the bill wasn’t too hefty.
My Favorite Downtown Chicago Restaurant
I have enjoyed meals at The Gage for several years - they have remained very consistent with their food and service. The Gage is located right on Michigan Avenue - directly across from Millenium Park. It's a handsome place - but still welcoming. There is a nice bar at the front. Service is excellent: refined but still very personable. On this visit I enjoyed the Beet Salad and the Steak Frites. Both great. My steak was prepared exactly as ordered and the frites were crispy and delicious.

Booked this restaurant based on its Michelin rating and proximity to our hotel. Did not disappoint. Enjoyed a great cheese plate, burger, salad and dessert (in photo)~deconstructed Boston Cream Pie
Be the first to ReplyGood Food, Service & Ambiance
This was my first meal in a Loop restaurant in 2 years ago, when it used to be one of my preferred restaurants for business lunches. I ate lunch there yesterday with a family member, following an outing to the Art Institute and was delighted to find that it had barely changed. The room was pleasantly full. The service was attentive and friendly. The lunch menu consisted a variety of choices of soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees.
I've never thought of The Gage as a "destination" restaurant but it is an excellent stop for a refreshing meal if you are in that area of the Loop.
Perfect After Art Institute
LOVE The Gage. Perfect place for drinks & delicious food after Art Institute. The bar area is beautiful & cozy in cold weather- in the spring/summer/fall outdoor dining is great. Fried pickles, cheese platter, so good- but I have never had anything I didn't like here. Very good service also.
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately not as good as it sounds
We had high expectations coming here as we had read the menu before and had picked certain things we wanted to try. Unfortunately one of the drinks that we wanted was not available. The spicy ceviche was absolutely not spicy and frankly disappointing, because it had little flavor, but was very fishy only.
The venison burger was good and the buffalo cauliflower was excellent. Drinks were good, but nothing special. The service was very good (although we had two plates taken before we were done and so swiftly, that we couldn't stop them).
In a nutshell - it's too expensive for what you get in my opinion, although I would give it another try to see if anything else might be better.
Really Nice Place with Great Staff
The atmosphere was really classy. All the staff was very friendly and professional. I was really impressed. My only negative was some pieces of the pork was really salty. Although I would return and try another dish.

Loving area on Michigan Ave Chicago. We stopped for a bite to eat before a show. Food was good and came in a timely matter. We loved the atmosphere.

We went before a play downtown. My daughter loved the fish and chips. My wife and I thought the wedge salad and the NY strip steak were great. Don't missed the pumpkin bread pudding. It is out of this world!
