It is an exciting time for a foodie like myself! The "Chicago Restaurant Week" is here and I now can have an excuse to get out of the house (jk). Anyway, "The Gage" was the first restaurant I visited out of the four (4) owned by the Gage Hospitality Group. I checked out their $55 dinner menu online and liked what I saw in term of the offerings. I grabbed my partner along to join this food adventure together. I haven't really been an alcohol drinker, even though I often bartended with various catering companies I worked for. Seeing the bar near the entrance at "The Gage" was a nice show-stopper. The hostess directed us to the table near the kitchen. I didn't realize there were more actions going on in the back and thought this restaurant was more spacious than I imagined. There were a couple of mocktail options and went with "French 86." The juniper botanical syrup had gentle sweetness and the lemon gave a very light tart to my tastebud. It was elegant to look at and tasted quite amazing. My partner, on the other hand, had "the Doctor," which consisted of three (3) main ingredients: Swedish punsch, Jamaican rum, and lime juice. It appeared in between a daiquiri and margarita, yet aromatic after taste was distinct. The drinks weren't included with the $55 Chicago Restaurant Dinner special. However, having the drinks was just what we needed to add that extra sparkle! Honestly, I could write food reviews all day long and I know many of you would stop reading them at one point. I wanted to highlight some of the uniqueness on a number of dishes because they stood out with their aroma, texture, presentation, and creativity. - "Tableside" Lobster Bisque: I was expecting something truly creamy yet it wasn't the case. Tarragon really played the role and entire soup. It turned out to be very refreshing. It was an excellent first course. - North Atlantic Grilled Swordfish Steak: it was of a great quality. Often times seafood didn't get as much attention as other choices of proteins in the Midwest. Thay swordfish was hearty and was cooked and presented at the right temperature. Furthermore, I had to say the supporting role that brocolini played summed up the dish. If someone would to hand me a large place of these grilled brocolini, I knew I could munch these for hours! - strawberry cheesecake: our server, Taylor, informed us initially that this wouldn't be available and offered us an alternative dessert option. Well, the cheesecake made it and the presence was strong, y'all! The "basque-style" cheesecake had some fire (literal fire with how it was made). I think for those who frowned upon cheesecakes because they never had something exquisite like this so far, I recommended them to give this a try. Other dishes that my partner had appeared to be delicious. Everything on the restaurant week dinner menu could call itself a winner in my book. Service was great, considering it was a busy Friday evening and entire venue was utilizing with way less COVID restrictions that we all knew way too well by now. Both my partner and I agreed to dine at "The Gage" again if an opportunity ever presented to us. Parking anywhere in downtown Chicago would always be expensive. If you are one of the individuals who works in downtown and owns a parking pass, take advantage of the restaurants in downtown Chicago during the restaurant week to make a full use of it!
